Vol. 1 Issue 2 March 2018 ===================================================================== THE VOICE of the HARPETH RIVER DISTRICT UMW Sacred Spaces: Encounters with God and Neighbor Partners in Mission The Partners in Mission Dinner and Program will be held on April 19, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at the Columbia First United Methodist Church. Pastors and spouses are to be invited along with two unit members. The District will pay for these four meals. Others are welcome to attend the dinner for $8.00 per person. The dinner is to emphasize the partnership with the pastors, our churches and UMW in Mission works. The dinner is held every other year. Miriam s Promise is our highlighted Mission for the year. A spokesman will present a program about the group and their mission. We would like to present them with a love offering that evening. They also have indicated that they would appreciate gift cards for Wal-Mart, Kroger, etc. to help the birth mothers during their pregnancy. It helps to indicate the amount on the card. Reservations must be turned in to Peggy Owen by April 9, The registration form is at the end of the newsletter. I hope to see everyone represented at the dinner. Patsy Elliott, E & I Our Promise: to ensure the well-being of the child by nurturing individuals and families.
Sacred Spaces: Encounters with God and Neighbor Co-President Greetings, We have had our first event of the year. It was truly a Faith Lift. It was so exciting to meet so many new UMW friends. In reference to scripture, Luke 8:22-25, like Peter and the disciples, sometimes I felt like the boat was rocking. But with Jesus in the boat, it did not sink and turned into clear sailing. Our next event is the Partners in Mission Event on April 19 at 6:00 p.m. at Columbia First. This is a new event to me. It is so exciting. Make your plans to be there. This will be a year of new adventures in a new district that we can all look forward to and share. Blessings, Joy Shackelford, Co-President Education and Interpretation * * * * * New Information * * * * * The Living the Vision checklist will no longer be submitted to the District or the Conference for awards. Please continue to use the items as a guide as you plan your programs, but now you can also be creative! Instead of scrapbooks for the conference annual meeting in October, they are asking for displays of hands on projects involving your unit. Think of pictures or items. Continue the attendance list for your unit mission studies. Hopefully these can be announced for others to attend. Patsy Elliott Pelliottquilter@comcast.net 2
THE VOICE of the HARPETH RIVER DISTRICT UMW Have you checked out what March is blowing in? Go to our New Website! hrumw.weebly.com Click on: Calendar of Events HELPFUL WEBSITES and OTHER INFORMATION Harpeth River District UMW: hrumw.weebly.com Tennessee Conference UMW: tnumw.org National UMW: umwomen.org Program Resources: umwmissionresources.org United Methodist Women Online: umwonline.org Program Resources I was very pleased to have Nancy Beyer at our Faith Lift at Mt. Pleasant First UMC. She was so kind to bring books for the 2019 Reading Program, as well as books for our Mission Studies for Mission u in July, calendars, and other helpful information. I hope all of you had an opportunity to visit the Book Room and do some shopping. I will be bringing books again to our District Annual Meeting in the fall. At that time, I hope to have several of the 2020 Reading Program books for you to peruse and purchase. If you did not get a chance to shop at our recent meeting, don't worry. You are still able to order books on your own. Amazon carries several of our Reading Program books, and I understand, that they may be less expensive than the ones I order from Atlanta. You can also order books for reading electronically on Kindle, or see if your local library carries any of them, or...you could check your local bookstore for them! Carol Duvall 3

This form was in your 2017 treasurer s packet. First quarter remittances are due March 8. These forms are in your 2018 treasurer s packet. Please let me know if you need either of these forms and I ll send them your way. Blessings to you and yours. Peggy Owen Harpeth River District Treasurer owenpeggy@gmail.com or THE VISION of the UNITED METHODIST WOMEN Turning faith, hope, and love into action on behalf of women, children, and youth around the world. Co-Vice President Would you be willing to be a host church for an event in 2019? Contact: Martha Butler mabutler101@gmail.com 5
Sacred Spaces: Encounters with God and Neighbor MNO Coordinator If you were part of the Columbia District last year, please send in your census report. Thank you, Judy Davis Communications Coordinator Designated Contact Person This year, we would like to try something different regarding communication throughout the district. We would like to have a designated contact person that has an address. This person would be responsible for: * getting a copy of the newsletter & notices to the local unit president, the pastor(s) of the church and the circles, sub-groups and night groups, if applicable. * ing the newsletter to the members of the unit with and making copies for those without. * contacting me for anything you would like to be shared in the newsletter: articles about an event you have had, photos of the unit working on a mission project, etc. This will need to be submitted by the 15 th of the month prior to the issue. * notifying me of an event between newsletters I would like to have the information at least 3 weeks before the event or 3 weeks before the registration deadline. Website The Harpeth River District UMW website is up and running! Please go to: hrumw.weebly.com to check it out. One section I would like to point out is: Ministries. As you can see, there are only 3 churches listed with some of their ministries. Please submit any ministries your UMW unit participates in. This can include simple projects, mission conferences, Bible studies. The list is endless. The goal of listing your ministries is two-fold. One: if it is an event, nearby units may want to participate or attend. Second: it may provide ideas for a unit wanting to do something different. Please contact me if you have questions or information for the newsletter &/or website. With blessings, Janet Pierce pdj1169@gmail.com 6
THE VOICE of the HARPETH RIVER DISTRICT UMW Nominations Chair I love the idea of being part of a greater organization with many creative women who want to make a difference within their church and community. I ask that you prayerfully consider joining one of the many committees within our district.
