1 PENN DEL DISTRICT BIBLE QUIZ TIMES Volume 33, Issue 1 NEW SEASON Congratulations to all the new teams for doing a nice job on opening day. I just learned of a new book titled One Hour Theology. It will be about discipleship. We all could have written that book--what are we doing each week?-- investing in student s lives with God s Word. I realize we all want to win (who doesn t), but in light of eternity, coaches you are making a difference. It seems like everywhere you turn, all you hear is negatives. Speak positive. We get to be in God s Word every week with no fear, in a comfortable building with some great young people. Challenge all your students, especially the new ones, to not skip a day in studying, even for a minute or two. The faithfulness will be rewarded. We do need many churches to add officials at least train people to keep score. For more information check out the 100,000 Verse Award information on the Web DISCIPLESHIP AWARD This will be the 12th year for the awarding of the Discipleship Award. We only had 16 quizzers receive this award last season. We can do better! To work toward this award there are Application Projects listed in the Study Guide/Scripture Portion/Web for the quizzers to work on as an individual and/or in a group. The purpose of the Application Projects is to help quizzers take the Scriptures found in the Epistles and apply them in their everyday lives. Did you know that getting this award qualifies a quizzer for an entry into the 100,000 Verse Award? Or another way of saying it, getting the Discipleship Award alone could be worth $1,000.00!!! Also in the NE Region one quizzer will also get another $ for the Discipleship Award. DISTRICT FINALS District Finals will be held on Sat, March 18, 2017 at First A/G, Harrisburg. This will be for A MS & PD. We will have a Quoting BEE and Dramatized Quoting on Friday night, March 17, 2017.

2 PENN DEL DISTRICT BIBLE QUIZ TIMES NORTHEAST BQ REGIONALS Northeast BQ Regionals will be held on Friday & Saturday, May 6-7, 2016 at Evangel Church, Scotch Plains, NJ. The top 5 A teams and the top 5 Middle School teams from the Penn-Del District Finals will compete at this event. BIBLE SUNDAY Bible Sunday is Dec 11, This is a great day to promote the Bible Quiz ministry. We encourage every team to simply quote as many verses as possible in a onehour time frame. It is also to your benefit to have one of your quizzers quote from the pulpit that day for their memorization requirement. Some churches also use this as a great day to do a Quote-a-thon. Some churches have received over $1,000 for their ministry in that one hour! Please send me any comments or stats on what you do on Sunday, Dec 11, 2016 for Bible Sunday. Also include any testimonies from that day as you have your students quoting the Word. ADULT QUIZZING Any adult (out of high school) can quiz after League Meet # 3 on January 7, 2017, over Ephesians Chapter 4:1-16. After League Meet # 4 on Feb 25, 2017, the adults will quiz over Ephesians Chapter 4: NEEDING COMPUTERS Jason Martin had computers in every quiz room at the SW & NW leagues to keep scores. Shortly we want to use them throughout the entire district. If you have an old laptops you would like to donate please contact Jason at jason_martin@inbox.com NATIONAL FINALS National BQ Finals will be held at Sandy Cove Ministries, North East, MD, July 1-7, Video FATHERS "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." - Ephesians 6:4 In the 1950s a psychologist, Stanton Samenow, and a psychiatrist, Samuel Yochelson, sharing the conventional wisdom that crime is caused by environment, set out to prove their point. They began a 17-year study involving thousands of hours of clinical testing of 250 inmates in the District of Columbia. To their astonishment, they discovered that the cause of crime cannot be traced to environment, poverty, or oppression. Instead, crime is the result of individuals making, as they put it, wrong moral choices. In their 1977 work, The Criminal Personality, they concluded that the answer to crime is a "conversion of the wrong-doer to a more responsible lifestyle." In 1987, Harvard professors James Q. Wilson and Richard J. Herrnstein came to similar conclusions in their book Crime and Human Nature. They determined that the cause of crime is a lack of proper moral training among young people during the morally formative years, particularly ages one to six. Fathers, love your children and bring them up to know the Lord. Today in prayer, praise Christ for all of the fathers who are teaching their children to love and follow Jesus.
