4 AUDIENCE CAROLS 1. It came upon the midnight clear That glorious song of old, From angels bending near the earth To touch their harps of gold: Peace on the earth, good-will to men, From heaven s all-gracious King! The world in solemn stillness lay To hear the angels sing. 2. Still through the cloven skies they come, With peaceful wings unfurled; And still their heavenly music floats O er all the weary world: Above its sad and lowly plains They bend on hov ring wing; And ever o er its Babel-sounds The blessed angels sing. 3. Yet with the woes of sin and strife The world has suffered long; Beneath the angel-strain have rolled Two thousand years of wrong; And man, at war with man, hears not The love-song which they bring: O hush the noise, ye men of strife, And hear the angels sing. 4. For lo! the days are hastening on, By prophet-bards foretold, When, with the ever-circling years, Comes round the age of gold; When peace shall over all the earth Its ancient splendours fling, And the whole world send back the song Which now the angels sing.
5 1 God rest you merry, gentlemen, Let nothing you dismay, For Jesus Christ our Saviour Was born upon this day, To save us all from Satan's power When we were gone astray: Refrain: O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy; O tidings of comfort and joy. 2 From God our heav nly Father A blessed angel came, And unto certain shepherds Brought tidings of the same, How that in Bethlehem was born The Son of God by name: Refrain 3 The shepherds at those tidings Rejoicèd much in mind, And left their flocks a-feeding In tempest, storm, and wind, And went to Bethlehem straightway, The blessèd babe to find: Refrain 4 But when to Bethlehem they came, Whereat this infant lay, They found him in a manger, Where oxen feed on hay; His mother, Mary, kneeling Unto the Lord did pray: Refrain 5 Now to the Lord sing praises, All you within this place, And with true love and brotherhood Each other now embrace; This holy tide of Christmas All others doth deface: Refrain 1. The first Nowell the angel did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, On a cold winter s night that was so deep. Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell, Born is the King of Israel! 2. They lookèd up and saw a star Shining in the east, beyond them far, And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued both day and night.
6 3. And by the light of that same star Three wise men came from country far; To seek for a King was their intent, And to follow the star wherever it went. 4. This star drew nigh to the northwest; O er Bethlehem it took its rest, And there it did both stop and stay Right over the place where Jesus lay. 5. Then entered in those wise men three Full reverently upon their knee, And offered there in His presence Their gold, and myrrh, and frankincense. 6. Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our heavenly Lord, That hath made heav n & earth of naught, And with His blood mankind hath bought. Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell, Born is the King of Israel! 1. O come all ye faithful Joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem; Come and behold him, Born the King of angels. O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord! 2. See how the shepherds Summoned to his cradle, Leaving their flocks, draw nigh with lowly fear; We too will thither Bend our joyful footsteps. O come 3. Lo, star-led chieftains, Magi, Christ adoring, Offer him incense, gold, and myrrh; We to the Christ-child Bring our hearts oblations. O come 4. Child, for us sinners Poor and in the manger, Fain we embrace thee with awe and love; Who would not love thee, Loving us so dearly? O come 5. Sing, choirs of angels, Sing in exultation, Sing all ye citizens of heaven above: Glory to God in the highest. O come

He now teaches organ and piano at Millfield School in Street and at Badminton School. Since his appointment as Bristol Bach Choir s accompanist in 1998, Nigel has played for the choir in numerous concerts in Bristol, Oxford and Gloucester and on tour in Paris, Oporto, Prague, Dresden and Iceland as well as leading and conducting Bristol Bach s Rentachoir. Throughout the autumn of 2011 Nigel became the choir s acting Music Director, conducting them in concerts at St Mary Redcliffe and St George s, Bristol. A fellow of the Royal College of Organists, Nigel is currently a deputy organist at Bristol Cathedral, plays for Millfield School s regular school services in Wells Cathedral and has given recitals in Bristol Cathedral, St. Mary Redcliffe and in Bristol University s Great Hall. It was there, in 2007, that he played for a degree ceremony where the distinguished organist and renowned Messiaen scholar, Jennifer Bate, received an honorary doctorate. Elsewhere, he has performed organ concertos by Handel and Poulenc with the Bristol Philharmonic Orchestra and Bristol Ensemble. Liberty Brass Ensemble comprises five of this country's leading young professional brass players. They are all students at London's most prestigious music colleges, and between them have performed with some of the most respected conductors and orchestras throughout the world.
