1 Harvest Festival At Karmel Karmel news Sunday, Nov. 1st at 6:30 pm Dear friends, Bring a friend, neighbor, and a pie to share! Come share in a time of praise, singing, music and entertainment as we celebrate another year of God s goodness and faithfulness. Offering will be taken, proceeds will be divided between a church project (to be announced) and missions. I m doing a quick read through the Bible once again (I ve read through it three or four times since we moved here). I finished the book of Micah this morning. In Micah 6:6-8, the prophet writes: With what shall I come before the Lord and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. We can t buy God s forgiveness with lavish gifts or extravagant sacrifices. We can t save ourselves by acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God. But we can show that we know and love God by doing these things. For when we act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God, we show that we are alive in Christ and that He is alive and at work in us. For each of these phrases describes the way Jesus lived. Acting justly means loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and loving our neighbor as ourselves. People who love mercy know how to temper justice with loving-kindness. Where would we be if God was just but knew nothing about mercy? We show that we know God when we love mercy. Karmel Covenant Church 5799 County Road 6 NW Princeton, MN Phone: (763) karmeloffice@yahoo.com Website: Walking humbly with our God means humbly admitting that we are sinners in need of the Savior. It is humbly acknowledging that we are what we are by the grace of God. Phillips, Craig and Dean sing a song entitled, Will You Love Jesus More. Let me share some of the words with you in closing: If all I ve done in the time we ve shared is turn your eyes on me, then I ve failed at what I ve been called to do. There s someone else I want you to see. Will you love Jesus more when we go our different ways? When this moment is a memory will you remember His face? Will you look back and realize you sensed His love more than you did before? I pray of nothing less than for you to love Jesus more. Above all else I hope you will come to know the Father s love. And when you see the Lord face to face, you ll hear Him say, Well done. Will you love Jesus more when we go our different ways? When this moment is a memory will you remember His face? Will you look back and realize you sensed His love more than you did before? I pray of nothing less than for you to love Jesus more. May it be so in our lives. For Jesus sake. We need to be registered and paid by November 10th. - Parish Nurse - Holiday season is coming, a time to have some joyous times with family and friends. However, there are some people who are dealing with depression or other mental disorders that can cause them to think about suicide. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as least 90% of all people who commit suicide suffer from one or more mental disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or alcoholism. Depression in particular plays a large role in suicide. The difficulty suicidal people have imagining a solution to their suffering is due in part to the distorted thinking caused by depression. A person thinking about committing suicide may not ask for help as they just want to quit hurting. We need to offer them help even if they do not ask. What should we look for and what should we say to someone who is thinking about suicide? Teen suicide is a growing and serious problem, which we have observed even in our local community. Signs to look for in teens include noticing a change in eating and sleeping habits, withdrawal from friends and family, rebellious behavior like running away, drug/alcohol use, neglecting personal appearance, difficulty concentrating, frequent physical complaints like stomach or headaches, not tolerating praise. For elderly person (the highest suicide rate for age groups is in the over 65 age group), look for disruption of sleep patterns, increased use of alcohol or prescription drugs, not following medical orders, stock piling medications, withdrawal from family and friends, rushing to complete or change a will. What can we do when we see these signs? 1) Speak up if you spot these warning signs. Talk to that person about their thoughts and feelings. 2) Respond quickly in a crisis to evaluate danger to that person. Find out if he/she plans to carry out a suicide plan, has a time set and plan to actually carry it out. 3) Offer your help and support. Do what you can to get them to professional help. Follow-up on treatment. Call them, invite them out. Encourage positive lifestyle changes. Make a safety plan. Remove potential means of suicide like knives or firearms. Stay in touch with that person even after the crisis has passed. Be in prayer for that person.
