As Believers, many of us struggle to find the right balance in being a grateful, patriotic American while being a voice of salt and light in the midst of a culture that is turning its back on righteousness and godliness at a blinding pace. Among Christians, there is always the danger of falling into two extremes when it comes to Christian citizenship and engaging in our government and political system: We retreat and become totally uninvolved in government, and in turn have little, if any, impact and influence on public policy and politics We become obsessed with changing and setting public policy to the point that all our effort, energy, and passion becomes channeled reforming the system rather than in proclaiming the Gospel. 9:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m. What should be a Christian s response to the government? What should a Christian do so that he or she honors God and also is a good citizen that can help turn around the godless course our country is on? God only established three institutions the home, the church, and the state. In so doing, he gave explicit instructions on how all three were to operate. Most Christians know a great deal about what God has to say about the home and church. 2 I L As we move forward in ministry we want to do so within the context of who we are as a group (our character and personality). We want to be guided by the Lord to minister in way He want us to, yet fully trust that we will be most effective if we are true to ourselves and what God has created us as a group (LFC) to be. Below is a list of some key elements in the character, nature and personality of LFC. The list is certainly not exhaustive nor is it exclusive, yet we believe the points in it make up the essence of the Core Values of our the local body of believers we call Lafayette Federated Church. We are very much a family, we hold strongly and are dedicated to the relationships we develop at LFC. We value and respect the contribution different members of our family bring to the body of believers we call LFC, and support and look out for one another. Those drawn to LFC tend to hold the Word of God in high regard and seek to truly live out their faith in their everyday lives by developing a personal walk with Him. Those lives we have noticed are lived out, for the most part, in a simple and genuine way. We are simple / real people who are drawn to other simple and real people and draw others who tend to lack a certain pretension in the way they live their lives. We are mission minded and place a high value on the biblical calling to reach out to others with the gospel here and around the world. The support of missionaries is part of the very fabric of our fellowship, and has been for generations. We have a long history of respect and support for our pastors and leaders. Despair is never an option for the Christian. Let us reaffirm our belief that our God reigns over all the nations of the earth. He is the Lord God Almighty. To him all the nations are but a drop in the bucket. The One enthroned in the heavens laughs at those who rage against him. No matter who controls the House or the Senate or the White House, God is still on the throne. There are so many exciting things that happen here at LFC over the summer, we are anything but quiet!! 31s t - August 9th :00 Vacation Bible School program will be running from July 6 th 10 th.. We will be doing Camp Kilimanjaro an epic expedition through Proverbs. God has once again given us an amazing staff for the week. Please be praying daily for VBS, for safety, for unity and most importantly, for God to be glorified in everything we do. AIA (Athletes In Action) send their coaches and trainers for the event, and we supply assistants for them. This has become one of our bigger outreach events here at LFC with over 50 % of those in attendance being from outside our church. 5 I L C o n t i n u e d f r o m P a g e 2 What s happ CHURCH BBQ & SONRISE MOUNTAIN REVIVAL BAND Although filling this position will be of great benefit, a void will still exist in needed pastoral care of the congregation. The second goal of the Elders will be to explore how a Deacon / Deaconess ministry may be able to fill the gap in pastoral care that will inevitably be created by an effective outreach program. The second part of the year (and as the pastoral search process takes it s natural course) the Elders will be looking at how a Deacon ministry would fit into the existing fabric of LFC, the purpose of which will be to round out the ministry efforts within our congregation. Despite the seemingly prolific decay in our culture, God will always be at work in the lives of the people he loves. By holding to the longstanding values of LFC we can assure ourselves that God will be at work in our lives and will use us to accomplish His purpose in the lives of others He wishes to reach and bring to Himself. Pray for us as we seek to fulfill our God given call to equip the saints for ministry. 6 I S T R IES S E N I O R A D U L T M I N Love can be expressed in different ways for sure: acts of kindness, helping someone, praying for someone. But love is also an emotion. Again, though we should be careful to not allow emotion to rule our hearts, we should not fear releasing emotion in our worship, to feel what you think, express and do. Loving the Lord with all our heart, soul mind and strength can be done with the will, but with the heart as well. Without ever engaging our hearts, our worship can be dry and stale. He has given us the free gift of eternal life through the finished work of Christ Jesus our Lord. It s ok to feel the words, I love you Lord, and I lift my voice to worship you oh my soul, rejoice Some of you don t need this exhortation, but some of you might the next time we gather together as God s church, It s ok to feel and to express your love and adoration of God. He is our great God, worthy of our worship and highest heart felt praise. Coming up on July 26 th at 6:00, we have a concert featuring the Palisades Park Band, so please plan on attending and enjoying the great fellowship and music.
