LOSING SIGHT OF YESHUA S STANDARD I have gleaned from an author and friend (Kevin Geoffrey), an article that really spoke to me. He states that as disciples of our Messiah, we are under constant assault by forces that are against bearing the standard of scripture. By nature, changes such as tradition, expediency and rationalism attack Adonai s authority convincing us that we need more than His word to guide us through this life. Tradition teaches us that the Holy Scriptures needs the assistance of man s customs, interpretations and established laws, customs and practices. Expediency tells us that as long as we are doing good we can shortcut and bypass the Scriptures anytime they get in our way. Rationalism teaches us that when man s reason differs with Adonai s wisdom, it is Scripture that is outdated, defective and irrelevant. Sometimes we are totally involved in something illegal and wrong with this rebellion; but more often than not, we are ignorant of it. These pressures are so constant and unrelenting that we barely know how to recognize or see them, much less question them. We have been under their power for so long that, as a Body we are constantly confused and mixed up. Once we surrender to these misleading influences, we lose sight of the sufficient and supreme standard we are called to follow as disciples of Yeshua. When we no longer look expectantly to the Scriptures as our acceptable source of truth, Yeshua our teacher disappears before our eyes and immediately, we are lost. How can we help others see, if we ourselves have no idea where to look? How can we demonstrate and witness the reality of the Scriptures if we are following the different belief system or ideology s of man. We really can t! Instead we have to wake up from the daze that we are in and get a fix on our position. We have to test ourselves and judge to the extent which we have fallen under the unfriendly thoughts and suggestions. Only then can we really fight off the forces that are determined on preventing us from the truth. Only then can we fix our eyes on Adonai s perfect word and bear His standard of the Scriptures. We offer a New Beginners Hebrew Class and a Beginning Hebrew Conversation Class. Our Congregational Leader Al Rodriguez will be leading the study using Tom Bradford's Torah Class as a starting point. 5 Volume 3, Issue 10 Page 5 LOCAL ANNOUNCEMENTS DAVIDIC DANCE We have made some changes to the dance ministry: Is. 52:7 "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger of good tidings, that announces peace and announces salvation, that says unto Zion: "Your Elohim reigns!" Davidic Dance at Ahava is worshiping Adonai with sacred reverence to Him. Therefore, there must be order and understanding when we worship through dance. Seasoned worship dancers may join the Davidic Dance circle after speaking to the dance leaders and demonstrating basic core steps. Appropriate dance attire is skirts and dresses below the knee and tops should be covered shoulders... nothing see through. Pants, tank tops and boots will not be permitted. Our focus is to please Elohim and not man. The Hora Dance is for everyone and we encourage all to participate and celebrate in this dance. The dance for He Shall Reign is for everyone as well! Beginning dance steps are offered after Oneg on the first and second Sabbaths of the month at 1:15 for 30 minutes. The Shabbat Medley dance will be taught during this time. All who learn it can then participate in the Shabbat Medley dance to bring in the Sabbath Service. Thank you for your understanding and we ask that you pray that Elohim be exalted through the dance ministry as it is a powerful weapon against the enemy. 6 Page 6 Ahava B Shem Yeshua MINISTRY UPDATES Ahava Children s Ministry The children s Shabbat School is on vacation till August 5th, The sign up sheet for August is back in the classroom/nursery area on the wall. Teachers and helpers can sign themselves up for dates that work for them. It will cover 2 months at a time. Teachers will be planning their own lessons, and helpers as usual will assist the teacher. In the storage room in the back of the sanctuary, there is a curriculum box for books and lessons, or you can use resources that you have. More teachers are needed. There should be a minimum of one adult in the back (18 or over) but preferably 2 adults should sign up at a time. Please talk to Dee Rodriguez if you would like to serve as a teacher for the first time, or if you would be willing to serve as the new Shabbat School leader. Ahava Men s Ministry We are changing when we meet for the "Men's Bible Study" so that more men can have the opportunity to attend. Starting January 2017, we will be having our Men s Bible Study on the 2nd and 4th Shabbat mornings from 9:30 am to 10:15 am, at Alliance Bible Church in the library (back of the Sanctuary). Tisha B Av is one of the major fast days in Judaism, beginning at sundown on Monday, July 31st and lasting for 25 hours. Some of the historical tragedies that have occurred on this date are: Adonai decreed that the Israelites would not enter the promised land for accepting the false report from the 10 spies (Numbers 13 and 14). (1312 BCE) The destruction of the First Temple by Nebuchadnezzar. (586 BCE) The destruction of the Second Temple by the Romans, led by Titus. (70 CE) The Bar Kochba revolt was crushed by Roman Emperor Hadrian. (135 CE) The Temple area and its surroundings were plowed under by the Roman general Turnus Rufus. Jerusalem was rebuilt as a pagan city renamed Aelia Capitolina and access was forbidden to Jews. The expulsion of the Jews from England. (1290 CE) The expulsion of the Jews from Spain. (1492 CE) World War One broke out setting the stage for the Holocaust, on the eve of Tisha B Av. (1914 CE) Mass deportation of Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto, on the eve of Tisha B Av.
