2 Dear Child of God, as we know, November is the month we celebrate Thanksgiving. This year it is on November 28th. In school we were taught how the Indians and pilgrims came together and celebrated a bountiful harvest. In the year of 1620, death hit 46 of the 102 pilgrims that landed at Plymouth Rock. They had their trials in starting a new life and seeking religious freedom. God provided for them and their food harvest of 1621 was a bountiful one. I thought it applicable for us to focus on the bountiful ways in the month of November that God has and is providing for us. It is a good and honorable thing to give thanks unto our God. This month I want you to know and understand God as your provider and give Him the glory. When God called Moses to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt, Moses expresses the Israelites will want to who sent him to them. God s reply to him was, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. (Exodus 3:14) God our provider is I AM. He provides whatever is needed for us to make it day by day. Another scripture declares, "Give us this day our daily bread. (Matt 6:11) In the Old Testament God provided manna to the Israelites daily. You and I must rest in the reality of God being our daily provider. Our faith must sustain us as we trust God and His willingness to help, assist, and provide. Remember God is not like man where He is unable to keep His word. Below view some of the titles God used when providing for His people in the Old Testament. I thought these titles would interest you, but remember all the below titles are reflected in the name of Jesus in the New Testament. (Matt. 1:23) Behold a virgin shall be with child, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 1. The LORD will provide, (Jehovah-Jireh) Genesis 22:14 2. The LORD our Righteousness (Jehovah-Tsidkenu, Yahweh-Tsidkenu) Jeremiah 23:6 8. The LORD Who Sanctifies You (Jehovah-M'Kaddesh, Yahweh-M'Kaddesh) Exodus 31:13 9. 3 Trusting God to Provide True thanksgiving comes out of a surrendered heart. The believer must not be afraid and fret about troubles that might occur, but trust God unreserved. What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? (Psalm 116:12 KJV) One can start by obediently giving God total control, and trusting God to supply one s every need. In the story about Abraham and Isaac did God want Isaac s life, or Abraham s obedience and trust? Isaac was a promised provision given by God to Abraham. When Isaac asked Abraham where was the sacrifice? His father replied, God will provide... (Gen. 22:7 KJV) Abraham s faith to obey God lead to a Jehovah-Jireh moment. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day in the mount of the LORD it shall be seen (provided). (Gen. 22:14 KJV) Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son because he trusted in God. The sacrifice was supplied by God and it was on time. Abraham was an obedient and thankful servant. In other words God wanted Abraham to totally rely on Jehovah-Jireh. As a believer do you fully trust God as your provider or is this concept foreign to you. Paul writes, if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham s offspring, heirs according to the promise. (Gal.3:29 AMP) Then, what does God want from the believer, the beloved descendent of Abraham? He wants the believer to obey without reservation. Of course at times one s situation may seem larger than God s ability to provide. We must trust only what God s Word declares. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: (Psalm 37:7 KJV) God s infinite provision is always greater than our finite problem. Jehovah means I Am, everything you need God Is, so surrender and give Him true thanksgiving! 3
