3 F O R E W O R D Although the Christian is not bound by the Old Testament (Col.2:14-16; Heb. 8:1-13), the New Testament is clear that the Old Testament is of great value to the Christian (Rom.15:4; 1Cor.10:6, 11). Therefore, it is of value to spend some time considering the material contained in the First Covenant. This study is about the 10 Commandments, written by the finger of God (Exo. 31:18), to see what lessons may be gained for us today in the Lord s church. It is generally agreed the Ten Commandments are the most succinct statements of a religious, oral and ethical code that can be found in any literature. In fact, governments of western civilizations have been set up from this model of law and conduct. There will be two objectives: 1) to consider the truth that is found in each Commandment and 2) to try to decide whether or not that truth and/or commandment was stated again in the New Testament and made binding on Christians today. These lessons have been prepared under the oversight of the elders and are considered what is most needed at this particular time.
