Gerazim to hear Joshua read all the words of the law. 16
19 Week 11 Quarter Title: Bondage, Wandering, Conquest Period Title: Conquest Lesson Title: The Conquest Memory Work: And the Lord said to Joshua, `Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; not a man of them shall stand before you.' Joshua 10:8. DAY 1 Israel and the Gibeonites. Joshua 9: The Gibeonites, fearing Israel, came to Gilgal dressed in old clothing and claimed to be travelers from a distant land.. They told Joshua they had come because of the fame of God and all that He did in delivering the Israelites from Egypt.. Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant to let them live.. When their true identity became known, Joshua could not destroy them because of his oath. Instead he made servants of the Gibeonites. DAY 2 War with the five Amorite kings. Joshua 10: The kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon formed a league to fight against Gibeon.. The Gibeonites appealed to Joshua for help. God told Joshua He had given the five kings into his hand.. In the midst of the battle, Joshua prayed that the sun would stand still at Gibeon. The sun stood still for about a day.. The Lord fought for Israel and they won. At God's command Joshua destroyed the five kings. DAY 3 The Conquest continued. Joshua 10:28-43; 11: Joshua captured 6 more cities and defeated the king of Gezer. He struck all the lands of the Negev (south) from Kadesh-barnea to Gaza utterly destroying them all and leaving no survivors.. Many kings of the land united against Israel. God told Joshua not to be afraid. Israel defeated them all.. All of this was possible because God fought for Israel. DAY 4 The inheritance of Reuben, Gad, the half tribe of Manasseh and Caleb Joshua 13:1, 6-8, 13-15, 23-25, 29-31; 14: Though much of the land was not yet captured, Joshua was old and God told him to divide the land.. According to their earlier request and Moses' promise, Reuben, Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh were given land on the east of Jordan.. Caleb received Hebron for his inheritance. DAY 5 The inheritance of Judah, Ephriam and the remainder of Manasseh. Joshua 15:1-2, 8, 13-21; 16:1, 5, Judah was given his land west of Jordan. This included Jerusalem.. Caleb drove the peoples out of Hebron and possessed his land.. The Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, remained in Jerusalem. Judah could not drive them out. Many years later King David took Jerusalem from the Jebusites and made Jerusalem the capital of Israel. 17
20 Week 12 Quarter Title: Bondage, Wandering, Conquest Period Title: Conquest Lesson Title: The Division Of The Land Memory Work: Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass. Joshua 21:45 DAY 1 The land divided. Joshua 17:13-18; 18:1-21; 19:1,9,10,17,24,32,40, Ephriam and Manasseh (Joseph's children) complained that they did not have enough land. Joshua told them to remove the Perrizites and the people of Rephiam and more of the Canaanites so they might possess more of their land.. Joshua divided the rest of the land among the other seven tribes by casing lots. The order of the lots was: Benjamin, Simeon (See Gen. 49:5-7), Zebulun, Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and Dan.. Joshua receives his inheritance. DAY 2 The cities of the Levites Joshua 20:1-9; 21:1-8, The six cities of refuge were appointed. Kadesh, Shechem and Hebron on the west side of Jordan and Bezer, Ramoth and Bashan on the east side.. The Levites receive no land inheritance. They were to serve all the people as priests.. The Levites were given 48 cities (including the 6 cities of refuge) scattered throughout the land: 13 from Judah, Simeon and Benjamin; 10 from Ephriam, Dan and the west half of Manasseh; 13 from Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the east half of Manasseh; 12 from Reuben, Gad and Zebulun. These cities were divided among the families of Levites by lot. DAY 3 The return of two and one half tribes to the east of Jordan. Joshua 22: Joshua told Reuben, Gad and one half of Manasseh that they had kept their promise to Moses to help capture the land. They could now return to the land east of Jordan. He admonished them to keep the commandments of God and they departed, taking much livestock, silver, gold, bronze and clothing.. When they reached the Jordan, they built an altar. The western tribes, believing it to be a symbol of rebellion against God, prepared to go to war against the two and one half tribes. They responded that it was not an altar for burnt offerings or sacrifice, but that it was for a witness between the east and west tribes, that all might remember that the tribes east of the river were part of Israel and that the Lord is God. The matter was then settled and Israel was pleased. DAY 4 Joshua's farewell address. Joshua 23:1-16. When Joshua was old he called for the leaders of Israel and spoke to them.. He reminded them of the division of the land and admonished them to drive out the inhabitants and possess the land God had given them. - He told them to keep all the law of Moses and not to associate with or intermarry with the nations that were still in the land.. He warned that if they transgressed, God's anger would burn against them and they would perish quickly from off the good land. DAY 5The covenant renewed at Shechem. Joshua 24:1-33. Joshua's last instructions reminded the people of all God had done for them. He admonished them to serve God in sincerity and truth.. Joshua made a covenant with the people and set up a stone as a witness of it.. Joshua died at 110 and was buried in his inheritance in the hills of Ephriam. 18
21 . Joseph's bones which were brought from Egypt were buried at Shechem.. Eleazar, the High Priest and the son of Aaron, died and was buried in Shechem. 19
