Tracing Aaron's Rod Where Is It?
At The Burning Bush Aaron's Rod is also called the "Rod of Elohim" Ex. 4:20; 17:9, the question is: Where is Aaron's Rod today? Let's follow Aaron's Rod in the Bible and see how far it takes us and try to fmd out where it is! The story begins at the burning bush where the "angel of Yahuwah" (Ex. 3:2), in verse 7 is called YHWH, which is Yahushua in His pre-existence and says to Moses that He has seen the affliction of His people in Egypt, and tells Moses that He is sending him to Pharaoh that Moses may bring forth Yahuwah's people out of Egypt. Moses responds "Who am I?" and Yahuwah assures Moses "Certainly I will be with you." But Moses thinks about it and says "Behold when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them. The Elohim of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say unto me, what is His name? What shall I say unto them? And Elohim said unto Moses I AM THAT I AM (AHAYAH ASHER AHA YAH): and He said. Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. And Elohim said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, YHWH (pronounced Yahuwah) Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, the
Elohim of Jacob hath sent me unto you: this is My name forever, and this is My memorial unto all generations." Ex. 3:14, 15 As the story goes on "Moses answered and said. But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say Yahuwah has not appeared unto you. And Yahuwah said unto him. What is in your hand? And he said, A rod. And He said. Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it. And Yahuwah said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand. That they may believe that Yahuwah Elohim of their fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob, hath appeared unto you." Exodus 4:2-5 Later in the story Yahuwah tells Moses "And you shall take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs." Exodus 4:17 Then in verse 20 it is for the first time called "the rod of Elohim." "And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of Elohim in his hand." Ex. 4:20
At the Plagues of Egypt In Exodus 7 Yahuwah tells Moses to tell Aaron "Take thy rod", and cast it before Pharoah, and it shall become a serpent. "And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharoah, and they did so as Yahuwah had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharoah and it became a serpent. Then Pharoah also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods." Exodus 7:10-12 In Exodus 7 this rod is now called Aaron's Rod. Evidently Moses had given Aaron this same rod that was used at the burning bush, where Yahuwah said specifically "this rod... thou shalt do signs." Ex. 4:17 Then Yahuwah tells Moses "Get thee unto Pharoah in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river's brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand." Ex. 7:15 So it is still the same rod, that is used to smite the waters that they became blood. In Exodus 8 "Yahuwah spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the
ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt." Ex. 8:5 Then the same rod is used to smite the dust of the land that it became lice throughout the land of Egypt (Ex. 8:16). Then in Exodus 9 "Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and Yahuwah sent thunder and hail... and Yahuwah rained hail upon the land of Egypt." Exodus 9:23 So evidently this rod called "Aaron's Rod" was shared between Aaron and Moses for we fmd Moses using it again in Exodus 10:13 in the eighth plague: "Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and Yahuwah brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts." As we trace the movements of this rod, it is seen again, when the children of Israel appear trapped at the edge of the Red Sea. "And Yahuwah said unto Moses, Wherefore criest unto Me? Speak unto the children of Israel, that they may go forward: But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea." Exodus 14:15, 16 We see a glimpse of this rod again when the children of Israel thirst for water in the desert: "And Yahuwah said unto Moses, Go on before 4
the people and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand and go. Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink." Exodus 17:5, 6 We see this rod again when "came Amelek, and fought with Israel in Rephadim. And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of Elohim in mine hand." Exodus 17:8, 9 This rod that Moses held up in the battle against Amelek was like an invisible military barmer with the sacred name on it waving in the air. "Then Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Yahuwah-nissi." Ex. 17:15 Yahuwah-nissi is explained in the margin Yahuwah my Barmer. So really the rod is cormected to the great holy name also.
spiritual Significance "Yahuwah's voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see Thy name: hear ye the rod and who hath appointed it." Micah 6:9 The rod is also a symbol of the Law, Torah & Decalogue and the Word or Scripture in general, notice similarity of usage "Hear ye the word of Yahuwah" Jer. 2:4 etc. The rod is also a symbol of correction (Prov. 22:15) "All Scripture is given... for reproof, for correction." II Tim 3:16 "The rod and reproof give wisdom." Prov. 29:15 Moses said the statutes are your wisdom (Deut. 4:6). "Wisdom maketh his face to shine." Ecc. 8:1 "Oil to make his face to shine." Ps. 104:15 Which leads us to the two olive trees or two witnesses of Revelation 11:3, 4 which produce oil. In the holy place of the sanctuary there were two cherubim made of olive wood (I Kings 6: 23) the magin reads "trees of oil". David said, "I am like a green olive tree in the house of Elohim." Ps. 52:8. Paper is made of wood or sticks, hence the connection of the Two Sticks or Two witnesses representing Old and New Testaments which is one in our hand, and thus back again to the Rod. 4
Aaron's Rod Blossoms In Numbers 17 when dealing with Korah, Dathan and Abiram trying to exalt themselves as Elohim's chosen instruments, and not recognizing that Yahuwah had chosen Moses and Aaron, the earth opened up her mouth and swallowed them up, then Yahuwah devised a plan whereby every one would realize who would be his chosen instruments for the priesthood: "Yahuwah spake unto Moses, saying. Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man's name upon his rod. And thou shalt write Aaron's name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the house of their fathers. And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I shall meet with you. And it shall come to pass, that the man's rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from Me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you. "And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers' houses even twelve rods. And Moses laid up the rods before Yahuwah in the tabernacle 7
of witness. And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds. And Moses brought out all the rods from before Yahuwah unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod. "And Yahuwah said unto Moses, bring Aaron's rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels: and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from Me, that they die not. And Moses did so; as Yahuwah commanded him, so did he." Numbers 17:1-11 Thus Yahuwah made it plain who was the priests of Yahuwah's house and the tribe He had chosen for the ministry of the sanctuary. We also gleaned from this story that Aaron's rod was the rod of an almond tree, which also has symbolism in the sanctuary, in the candlestick (Ex. 25:33). 8
At the Water of Meribah We see the rod of Elohim used again when the children of Israel came into the desert of Zin, where Miriam died and there was buried. And the children of Israel chode with Moses about having no water, saying, "why have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us into this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.... And Yahuwah spake unto Moses, saying, Take this rod, and gather you the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of this rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts to drink. And Moses took the rodfrombefore Yahuwah, as He commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them. Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. "And Yahuwah spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed Me not, to sanctify Me in the
eyes of the children of Israel therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them." Numbers 20:7-12 Yahuwah told Moses to take His rod, but did not say to strike the rock, but only speak to it, but be sure to have it with you as a witness. As you know the story Moses did not follow the instruction completely, he did take his rod, but instead of speaking to the rock, he struck it twice, the rock is a symbol of Yahushua (Acts 4:11), not to be struck twice, and Moses for not following the instruction, was not allowed to lead the children of Israel into the promise land. This is the last we here of Aaron's Rod in Scripture. to
In the Heavenly Sanctuary Ellen G. White the Seventh-day Adventist prophetess said she saw Aaron's Rod in the heavenly sanctuary {Early Writings p. 32). Moses was told to make the sanctuary after the pattern that he was shown in the mount (Hebr. 8:5). Thus the heavenly sanctuary has an Ark of the Covenant with two tablets of stone, the original copy of the Ten Commandments. So the question is: How did Aaron's Rod get to heaven? Aaron was not taken to heaven then. I suppose Aaron could have gone to heavenfromthat special resurrection of certain saints at Messiah's resurrection (Mt. 27:53), but Jude tells us that Moses did not remain dead on the mountain very long "Michael (meaning one like El; that is, Yahushua in His pre-existance) the archangel when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, Yahuwah rebuke thee." Jude 9 Moses must have taken the Rod and golden pot of manna with him when he went up in the mountain to view the Promise Land, then expire. Then when Moses was taken to heaven he must have been permitted to take the Rod of Elohim and the golden pot of manna with him. We know
Moses is in heaven because he appeared with Eliyahu to Yahushua in the mount of transfiguration during the Feast of Tabernacles (Matthew 17:3, 4), encouraging Yahushua to go through the cross experience, because they were in heaven on credit that Yahushua's atonement would be acceptable. Hear ye the Rod message today: "Remember ye the law of Moses My servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with statutes and judgments." Malachi 4:4
