2 SAVE THE DATE SISTERHOOD MEMBERSHIP DINNER Sunday, September 14th More to follow! SAVE THE DATE YIEB ANNUAL SHUL DINNER Sunday, December 14th More information to follow in the coming weeks. Dear Fellow YIEB Members, As you know, the leadership of our Shul is currently exploring an expansion to the Young Israel of East Brunswick building. This is an important and complex discussion; it is integral to the process that we get the participation and opinion of each and every YIEB member. It is essential for all of us to understand and identify what needs exist today and what we anticipate our needs will be in the future, prioritize those needs, and map out the actions necessary to move forward together to satisfy those needs. In order to engage in conversation with each of you, over the next few months we will be holding a series of parlor meetings which will allow us to have these detailed discussions. You, the membership, will have the opportunity to hear from the YIEB leadership on all aspects that we are exploring involving expansion and renovation of the Shul. More importantly, it will give you the opportunity to share your thoughts, ideas and suggestions. Meeting participation will be kept to a maximum of twenty five people per meeting to facilitate meaningful discussions. This is an important time for our Shul. We strongly urge each and every one of our members to participate! 3 Camp's all packed and away (until next summer!), and our shul is once again calm during the day. You'd never know that, just a few days ago, kids were singing, cheering, dancing, swimming, playing and having the summer of their lives...and what an amazing summer it was! Over the course of 8 weeks, Camp Keshet and TLC saw 107 campers come and go. WOW! Camp was a huge success, and it's time to say thank you to all those who helped shape and maintain the incredible program we had here at YIEB. Rachel Adams did an amazing job heading our TLC program. Between her creativity and high energy level, our Teen Leadership through Chesed program was inspiring, meaningful and of course, fun! Having been recognized this summer in the New Jersey Jewish News, this unique, innovative program left quite the impression in Middlesex County and among our Keshet family. This year we partnered with Yachad to offer campers with all abilities to be a part of the Camp Keshet experience. Debbie Tune bridged the gap between our Yachad Campers and Keshet/TLC campers in a wonderful way. Her loving, caring nature along with her "funner" side made this year a success and put us on the map! Rabbi Weinstein helped save the day when camp hit a pretty big bump in the road. Spending several hours invested in getting camp off the ground, and working closely with our volunteer-based leadership, he helped camp take shape into a year like no other - with more campers than ever before! A camp needs a strong group of people working daily to keep it running smoothly. Five weeks before camp started, Keshet found itself with a challenge: we could not secure someone to run camp after our director had to leave. Thanks to our volunteer-based camp committee, Michele Falk, Miltie Goldman, Allison Schechter and Mairov Shron, camp not only opened - but was phenomenal! These volunteers worked tirelessly behind the scenes and in the camp all summer long. Working on numbers, trips and anything asked, Michele spent much of her free time meeting and planning, orchestrating and facilitating. She added so much value to Camp Keshet's success. From running all the logistics of permits and licenses to setting up the audio and lighting for our drama performances, we know that we can always count on Miltie. Mairov, serving as the assistant director, wandered the halls of camp some days and working behind the scenes on others. Mairov took on billing, communicating with parents and working out logistics to ensure that all programs, trips and activities took place without a hitch. And then there was Allison, stepping in as our director. She lived and breathed camp all day long, from greeting our campers in the morning to seeing them off at 4PM - with everything in between. She made sure our campers were smiling and our staff members were supported. Each day ran smoothly under her watch. With all she did during the day, she still found time after hours until late into the night ensuring camp's continued success all season long. Our community is fortunate to be the beneficiaries of Allison's talents, warmth and dedication. Special thanks to Josh Shron for volunteering to produce the camp e-newsletter throughout the season. YIEB's camp committee took on the challenging role 5 weeks before the start of camp. They gave it their all and created the best summer experience for our campers! Help us say "thank you" to our volunteers and staff when you see them around...they made Keshet a blockbuster summer this year. Toda Raba!! 5 ~Young Israel of East Brunswick Israel Advocacy Committee~ ~Emergency Action Appeal~ Dear YIEB Members, July 10, 2014 Israel has never known a moment s peace in its history- its civilians are being bombarded again with terrorist missiles launched from Gaza. As Israel responds to current terrorist groups missile attacks, our hearts are with our brothers and sisters in harm s way. Here s how we in East Brunswick can support Israel and its people: Yashar Lachayal s Ari & Sari Horowitz Memorial Fund - Targeted, Direct Tzedakah: Donate by direct link to the Fund at This Fund is named in memory of our dear friends and YIEB members, Sari & Ari Horowitz z l, who had a special place in their hearts for helping to ease the burden of the brave IDF soldiers. YIEB has developed a special relationship with Yashar Lachayal, whose mission is to bring soldiers in the IDF what they need, when they need it. The organization provides for basic needs of the Chayalim who are defending Israel with their own lives. Due to Yashar Lachayal s founders generosity, 100% of donations are used to purchase & distribute these greatly needed supplies, rather than being used to defray administrative overhead costs. The Fund was established last summer specifically to provide food, clothing, and other necessities to needy IDF soldiers who come from impoverished family circumstances. The Fund will now focus its aid for the soldiers on their most immediate needs due to current combat conditions. Please donate online in Ari & Sari s memory so brave IDF soldiers may receive the benefit of your donation without delay while they protect Israel. Political Action: Contact your US Congressional Representatives and Senators and urge them to stand with Israel by making a public statement of support for Operation Protective Edge and Israel s right to defend itself. Go to the OU s action page at: Prayer for the IDF: Recite the Tefilah for the Members of the Israel Defense Forces (text in both Hebrew & English). Recite Tehillim: (Worldwide continuous) or (text in both Hebrew & English). Pair with a Combat Soldier: Let us devote ourselves to Torah learning, Tefillah, and performance of Mitzvot and good deeds in the soldiers merit. Sign up, free, at to pair with an active-duty IDF combat soldier. Help unify and connect all of Am Yisrael and increase each soldier s spiritual merit and protection. Hasbara: Spread truth about terrorist groups aggression against Israel. Share facts concerning the situation in Israel with friends & colleagues to combat the prevalent misinformation in the media. Excellent websites include: ; ; May Hashem protect Israel, her soldiers, and citizens during this difficult, dangerous round of Arab attacks and defensive Israeli actions. Let us stand united & provide much needed support to our Israeli family.
