2 September 12 - Brysen Klingenberg 18 - Parker Johnsen 22 - Liam Murray From Mr. Odell s desk: Kindergarten Preschool 1st Grade 27 - Gabe Heaton 27 - Victor Wealer 29 - Dagon Towne-Peldonia 2nd Grade 7th Grade 5th Grade (God s Word given to teachers each week and we want to share with you, also!) Proverbs 1: Wisdom calls aloud, outside; She raises her voice in the open squares. 21 She cries out in the chief concourses, at the openings of the gates in the city she speaks her words: 22 How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity: For scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge. 23 Turn at my rebuke; surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. 24 Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, 25 because you disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 When your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. 28 Then they will call on me, but I will not answer, they will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD, 30 They would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke. 31 Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies. 32 For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; 33 But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil. Our heart, as those who trust in Christ alone, is to keep clearly in view that, the very real priority of our souls and the souls we meet each day, will be eternally in heaven or eternally in Hell. This passage points to the grim reality which will come to those who reject Christ and His saving work on the cross. It has been said Hell is truth, known too late. I know this is weighty truth yet I ask us to keep in mind this reality as we teach, explain and live the gospel. My prayer is that all those in our care and influence will value the condition of their souls before it is too late and run to the Savior in true repentance, who is able and willing to save their soul for all eternity. Boggio field trip will be Tuesday, Oct. 23. More details to come. If you can drive please let me know. Drivers have to fill out paper work in the office. The children are excited to share songs, memory verses, count and make a special project with their grandparents. Be sure to let Grandpa and Grandma know to come on Friday, Sept. 14th. Remember, we get out at NOON on Friday. The Kindergartners are doing awesome at remembering to take care of their belongings first thing in the morning and getting to their desks to begin their Welcome Work The students know each other s names most the time now. We are becoming good friends and a team in our classroom. We are working hard in handwriting as we practice writing the letters; E, e, I, i, U, u, A, a and O,o. We read the book What do you do with a Problem. This is a great book and we are using the concept in the book of learning and growing as we face problems. There is always good that comes out of a problem when we look for it. We use the Kindergarten way of making letters, with capitals for the first letter in our name only. Your children are making their letters carefully as we learn the letters and the spaces on the lines where they belong. The students have learned the sounds for the letters I, i, U, u, E, e, A, a and O, o. They will say all their vowels this week for the I Know All My Vowels award. We will add the name and sound for T, t. this week. We go around the room and say a letter with the flash cards mixed up as fast as we can. It seems most of the letters are recognized and can be identified. You can help your child by practicing with the flash cards that your child brought home. Have them say the sentence for each letter sound they know. The students will have an oral evaluation this week in Phonics. We will play a game with rhyming words and I Spy for things that start with O,o. Our new poem is Who has seen the Wind. In Social Studies we will continue with our community helpers. The students will explore alike objects, small, medium and large, along with writing the numbers 1 and 2. Number 9 will be reviewed with felt objects and our number cards. We will have a Numbers evaluation this week. Everyone recited our memory Bible verse last Friday - Hooray! We practice talking in front of others while we say our memory verses. The Kindergartners stand on the brown line, hands at their sides and speak loud enough for our friends in the back row to hear them. Our apple tree stickers charts are filling up and we will soon be choosing our terrific tickets because we are terrific students! Our new Bible story is Noah and the Ark and our memory verse is: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Genesis 9:13 What an awesome reminder that we can trust God to keep His promises. Mrs. Whitlock
4 1st grade ~ Mrs. Wilson In Bible this week we are learning about Noah. Our memory verse is Proverbs 3:5-6a, Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him. All students did very well on their first Phonics test! Keep up the good work! Special sounds we are learning this week: -pl in plane, -fr in frog, -tr in train, -sh in ship, -th in thick, -th in this In Math, we will continue to compare numbers to find greater/less, review 1-5 addition families, review ordinal numbers (first, second, third, etc.) related to the calendar, and introduce 1-5 subtraction families. We will also learn about the penny. Students did very well on their first Arithmetic test last week! Poetry - we will be learning a special poem for Grandparents Day! Spelling please practice week #3 words at home. Please check FISH binders for reading assignments. The students did a great job last week of returning their reading books! This is very important, as we use them each day in the classroom. Please remember to return library books to school. We have library on Tuesday and Friday. Your child will not be able to check out a new book until they return their old one(s). Thank you! 2nd grade ~ Mrs. Bickett Students are doing a good job of settling into our routine here at school. I hope your school routines at home are going well! Please remember to check your child s travel folder daily and sign homework on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. School begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. Please try to get your child here on time. In Bible class this week we are beginning a unit on Moses. This week we will learn how Moses was used by God to set his people free and yet he remained a very humble man. Our verse is Exodus 4:12: Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say. We will recite this verse on Friday. We will also have spelling test 3 on Friday. In math classes this week we will work on subtraction fact families 1-6, identifying cones, spheres, cylinders, pyramids, and cubes, adding on 2 and taking away 2, and finding half of a group. In Phonics and Language class we have begun chart 7 special sounds and we are continuing to learn about sentences. We will identify declarative and interrogative sentences and put the correct ending marks for them. In history we are learning about patriotic holidays and patriotic songs. We are looking forward to having our grandparents visit on Friday.
