PCA students and staff will gather around our flag pole at 8 a.m. to spend time in prayer. Please join us if you are able! Bus Families NEXT WEEK, there is no afternoon bus on Wednesday, Oct. 3rd and no bus service all day on Fri, Oct. 5th. We will have our Pastor Appreciation breakfast and program on Friday, October 19. Invitations will be going home soon! We will send 1-2 invites per family. If you need extra invitations, please see the office. The Science Room is in need of a small microwave if anyone has one to donate or could purchase to donate, it would be greatly appreciated. Illinois Elks FREE Orthopedic Clinic On Thursday, October 11th. Info at office window. Band students have been asking Mrs. Marshall about stringed instrument (violin, guitar, etc.) lessons and she passed on that. Suite 408 located in Peru, IL is a good place to call for those lessons. Christmas Sale Our Christmas Sale is scheduled for November 2nd. You can start bringing in items for donation now. Also, if you are able to help at all, please let Beverly Neff know. MISSIONS Focus Allison Rosales is a sweet 8 year old girl living in Lima, Peru. We as a PCA family have the opportunity to support Allison through prayer and financial giving. We ask that each PCA student gives 50 cents a month, or $5 for the year to help provide for Allison s physical needs. Please be praying for Allison, her parents, and her two sisters. 2 From Mr. Odell s desk: (God s Word given to teachers each week and we want to share with you, also!) Mark 11: Then they came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him. 28 And they said to Him, By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority to do these things? 29 But Jesus answered and said to them, I also will ask you one question; then answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things: 30 The baptism of John was it from heaven or from men? Answer Me. 31 And they reasoned among themselves saying, If we say, from heaven He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?' 32 But if we say, 'From men' - they feared the people, for all counted John to have been a prophet indeed. 33 So they answered and said to Jesus, We do not know. And Jesus answered and said to them, Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. Distractions, opposition and unbelief along with many other traps lay waiting for us every day as we serve God and attempt to allow God to be evident in our lives. In Mark 11 this was one of many attempts by the establishment of Jewish religion to sidetrack and even destroy the ministry of Jesus. Yet Jesus, being very God and very man, withstood each attack by responding perfectly in accord with the character of God. Jesus' answer to the leaders was to affirm John's ministry as being from God. Jesus did not take the bait and wrestle in the mud with the leaders. He simply declared God to be at work through John and thusly through Him. His question to them only brought a no comment. Be watchful to not get distracted from sharing the life-saving Truth of the Gospel. Let's continue to proclaim salvation through faith in Christ alone. It is mankind's only hope, the Grace of God revealed through Jesus life, death and resurrection. Let's keep the main thing the main thing! TEACHER S NOTES FOR YOU! 3 Kindergarten Tidbit ~ Mrs. Whitlock Flashlight Friday was a big hit and the students did a great job using their flashlights for their books only. This week we have lots of learning to do as we count to 20 in Numbers and learn more and greater concepts. We will look at and discuss what numbers come after other numbers. Graphs will be introduced and careful listening exercises will be practiced. We will continue to write the numbers adding 4 this week. Number games will continue to help us with our recognition of numbers The boys and girls will receive number flash cards to play our number games. They now know the ones family and the teens family of numbers. We will work for random recognition. In Phonics the students will learn the letters B, b and N, n and the sound they make. We will add B, b and N, n to our consonant and vowel blends. The boys and girls will make and read words with T, t, L, l, B, b and N, n blends by adding consonants to the end of the blends. Example; to ba blend we will add the consonant t and make the word bat. The students are so excited to be making and reading real words. We will also make small words that begin with vowels. All of our vowels and consonants sentences and sounds will be reviewed and practiced in Handwriting too. We will look at what waiters and waitresses do in our community this week in Social Studies. We will practice serving each other food. We will talk about the Postman and write letters to each other. Our new poem is At the Sea. Telephone politeness will be practiced along with politeness in other situations and what good manners are will be discussed in Skills Development. The students will continue to practice right and left recognition. The poems Who has Seen the Wind and At the Sea will enrich our language along with music and songs. Our new memory verse is For nothing is impossible with God Luke 1:37. We will look at how amazing and wonderful God is to us and to Abraham and Sarah. We can trust God to keep all His promises as Abraham and Sarah did. There was great celebration when Isaac was born. We will be sharing our baby pictures with special notes from our families. We will have a classroom party and celebrate the fearfully, wonderfully made kindergartners (Psalm 139:14). God loves us so much and He made each of us special. 1st grade ~ Mrs. Wilson In Bible this week we are learning about Jacob and Esau. Our memory verse is Psalm 34:13 Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. Phonics This week s special sounds are -sc in scat, -sk in skate, -sp in spade, -cr in crab, -tw in twins, -spl in splash, and -spr in sprain. We will continue to review rhyming words, apply phonics sounds/rules to spell words, and apply ending punctuation to sentences. Math - We are comparing three numbers to find greater/less, identifying missing addends, learning the 6 subtraction family facts, reviewing 6 addition fact family, and continuing to practice value of money by combining coins (dimes and pennies). Please practice math flashcards at home if your child does not know their math facts. Spelling please practice week #5 words at home.

4 1st grade continued... Last Friday was the end of our first quarter progress report term. Progress reports will be sent home this Wednesday. Please check FISH binders for homework assignments. Thank you, parents, for initialing the homework sheets! Please note, we have a red dye allergy in our class. Remember to check labels for red dye when bringing in special treats for birthdays or holiday parties, so that everyone can have a treat. Thank you! 2nd grade ~ Mrs. Bickett Remember to bring healthy snacks. Most of the class is doing very well, but I saw gum and candy this week. Gum is not allowed at school. Please do not allow your child to bring candy for their snack. Thank you! Mark your calendars! We are going on a field trip to Boggio s with the Kindergarten Class on the morning of Tuesday, October 23rd. Please look for a separate note next week with more details Progress reports will come home on Wednesday. Please be sure to check your child s folder for their progress report. In Bible class this week we are continuing our unit on Moses. This week we will see how God provided for the Israelites in the desert. We will learn how Moses was diligent. Our verse is Exodus 19:5a: Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. We will recite this verse on Friday. We will also have spelling test 5 on Friday. Bonus spelling words for the week are: language, Michigan, station, science, and calendar. In math classes this week we will work on subtraction fact family 8 and addition fact family 9, pictographs, determining amounts of money, and 3 addend addition problems. In Phonics and Language class we will begin chart 9 special sounds and we are continuing to learn about sentences. We will continue to identify the subject and predicate parts of a sentence, as well as identifying declarative and interrogative sentences. In history we are learning about the beginnings of our country. We are working on being able to identify the continents, our state, and the surrounding states. 3rd grade ~ Mrs. Glass Our Bible verse this week is Luke 6:40 - A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher. The new books of the Bible we are learning this week are Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. We are learning about the other eight disciples this week and who they were. In Math, we have started learning liquid measurements. We are on Spelling List #5. A couple of the students were so close to getting a 100% on their pre-test! In History, we will be learning about John Smith. Next week, there will be a test. Look for the date in the steno book! Please work with your students on clocks and telling time, and also their multiplication facts. --- Mrs. Glass

Parents, please double check with your student as several are choosing not to complete their homework. Keep working on your Mammal Projects, which are due on October 5th. Remember to include the following information on your poster Picture of mammal Range Name of mammal Habitat Food source Tracks Predators Size Other interesting information Science ~ Mr. Cornman 6th - Invertebrates and the classification system, Insects (Anthropods), Then on to Orders of Insects. Quiz 5, Sections 2.1 & 2.2, probably Thursday. 7th - Quiz 6, Sections 2.7 & 2.8, Tuesday, then on to Plants without flowers which will end the chapter, then a Chapter 2 Test, probably Friday. 8th - Proportions, equations of equivalent ratios, then to Hydraulics and pressures (P)input=(F)force)/A(area)
