1 Volume 11, Issue 3 December 2012 Manalapan News FROM THE DESK OF THE TOWN MANAGER. Welcome back to our returning residents. I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer! The summer was quite busy for the staff and the Commission. Hurricane Sandy sideswiped Manalapan causing severe damage to our seawalls along the ocean. The Town has worked with the residents and the State to enact emergency procedures to make repairs. We have facilitated meetings and permit processing. There are currently fifteen seawall replacements in the permit process with DEP. Construction is expected to start mid-december. The Library open house was November 29th. It was wonderful to see so many of our patrons. I look forward to seeing you all at our lecture series. As there are many issues each month that our Commission is working on, I encourage each of you to come to our meetings and voice your opinions. We look forward to working with all of our residents and as always please stop by Town Hall anytime. Happy Holidays!! Town Manager Linda A. 2 FROM THE MANALAPAN POLICE DEPARTMENT I want to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back for the season. I would like to remind all our current and new residents that this is an excellent time to update your Emergency Contact lists with the Police Department. Updated contact information is key to providing a high level of service with little delay. There are different programs available through the Police Department: the DARK HOUSE program gives you peace of mind when travel takes you away from home. This program provides for daily security checks of your property. The FAILSAFE KEY BOX program is a service which gives our officers access to your home in the event of an emergency. This program negates the need for the department to maintain keys to participating residences. It promotes a quicker response by reducing delays. We recently replaced the secondary alarm monitoring server and the new system is up and running. This system allows for a quicker response from the Manalapan Police Department in the event of an emergency. This is a free service available to all residents. In addition to our daily ATV patrol, we have instituted a Beach Patrol Program. Weather Permitting, there will be a designated police officer on beach patrol Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please feel free to notify the police department of any suspicious activity on the beach. If you wish to learn more about these services please contact Lt. Fahey at Carmen Mattox, Chief of Police Manalapan Police Department MANALAPAN DISPATCHER KATHY CLARK RETIRES!! Manalapan police dispatcher Kathryn Clark is retiring on January 1, Kathy has served the police department and the residents of Manalapan for over 24 years. She began dispatching for Manalapan in October of 1988 as a favor to her late father retired Manalapan Police Chief Ralph M. Meadows. Kathy had worked at the Boca Raton Police Department and was a trained dispatcher. What was to be a temporary position turned into 24 years of service! Kathy has served under four police chiefs and has seen numerous changes and improvements in the Police Department. Through the many technical enhancements to the department it has always remained true to its goal of providing the highest levels of customer service to the residents of Manalapan and she is proud to have served. She will spend her retirement days doing her Civil War Reenactments, working on her family genealogy, completing her research on Lantana and Manalapan history and most of all spending time with her family. We will miss her!! Lt. Chris Fahey has joined the Manalapan Police Department Lt. Fahey comes to Manalapan after a 32 year career in Law Enforcement. He worked for the City of West Palm Beach Police Department for thirty years retiring as a Captain/Divisional Commander. He worked in many areas within the department including Anti- Crime, Organized Crime, Canine, Patrol and Street Narcotics Unit. He was also a hostage negotiator for seventeen years. He holds a Bachelors Degree from Barry University in Miami. After retirement, he worked part time in the Town of Jupiter Inlet Colony as an officer and contracted part time with the U. S. Marshall s Service. Lt. Fahey has been married for 22 years and has two sons and one daughter. Chris is excited to become a part of Manalapan and looks forward to the challenge of his position and serving the community. If you see him on the road please take a moment to introduce your self and welcome him to Manalapan. 2 December 2012 Manalapan News
