2 I. TOWER OF POWER: MAN S PRIDE IN HUMAN ACHIEVEMENT Genesis 11:1-4 1 Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. 2 And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. 3 And they said to one another, Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. 4 Then they said, Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.

BALL OF CONFUSION: GOD S JUDGMENT OF CONFUSION AND DISPERSION Genesis 11:5-9 5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. 6 And the Lord said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So the Lord dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. 9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth. And from there the Lord dispersed them over the face of all the earth.

MAN CONSPIRES, GOD RETIRES 5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. 6 And the Lord said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.

12 B. MAN MISUSES, GOD CONFUSES 7 Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another's speech. 9a Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth. confuse = Heb. balal

16 C. MAN SUBVERTS, GOD DISPERSES 8 So the Lord dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. 9b And from there the Lord dispersed them over the face of all the earth.

19 1. GOD HAS A GREAT PLAN FOR THE NATIONS TO SAVE THEM IN CHRIST. Matthew 28:18 20 Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations Luke 24:46 Thus it is written that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations beginning in Jerusalem. Acts 1:8 You will be my to the end of the earth.

20 2. GOD HAS A GREAT PURPOSE FOR THE NATIONS TO UNITE AS ONE CHURCH IN CHRIST Acts 2: Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

21 3. GOD HAS A GREAT ROLE FOR THE NATIONS TO HAVE DOMINION ON THE EARTH FOR GOD S GLORY. Revelation 5: And they sang a new song, saying, Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, 10 and you have made them kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.

22 4. GOD HAS A GREAT FUTURE FOR THE NATIONS TO WORSHIP CHRIST TOGETHER FOREVER.
