2 MERITS OF THESE DAYS Abu Hurayrah ( هللا عنه (رضي narrated that the Prophet said, On no days is the worship of Allah (ص ل ى ا لل ع ل ي ه و س ل م ( desired more than in the (first) ten days of Dhul Hijjah. The fast of each of these days is equal to the fast of a whole year, and the worship of each of these nights is equal to the worship of Laylatul-Qadr. 13 The Prophet (SAW) commanded us to recite a lot of Tasbeeh (Subhana Allah), Tahmeed (Al-hamdu Lillah) and Takbeer (Allahu akbar) during this time. Abdullah Ibn 'Umar (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: "There are no days greater in the sight of Allah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel (La ilaaha illa Allah), Takbeer (Allahu akbar) and Tahmeed (Alhamdu Lillah)" [Ahmad].

20 SINCERE REPENTANCE One of the most important things to do during these ten days is to repent sincerely to Allah and to give up all kinds of disobedience and sin. If a Muslim commits a sin, he must hasten to repent, without delay, because he does not know when he will die, and because one evil deed leads to another.

21 HOW TO REPENT Turn to Allah and forego all deeds [open & secret] that He dislikes Show regret for having sinned Give it up immediately Vow never to return to it Stick firmly to the truth by doing only what Allah loves

UDHIYAH Udhiyah refers to the animal (camel, cattle, goat or sheep) offered as a sacrifice. It is an act of worship dedicated solely to gain Allah s pleasure.

23 WHO IS REQUIRED TO PERFORM UDHIYAH? Every adult Muslim, male or female, who owns grams of silver or its equivalent in money, personal ornaments, stock-in-trade or any other form of wealth which is surplus to his basic needs, is under an obligation to offer Udhiyah. Each adult member of a family who owns the above mentioned amount must perform their own Udhiyah separately. No Alternate for Udhiyah! Some people think that instead of offering Udhiyah they can give its amount to the poor people as charity. This assumption is totally wrong. 24 REWARD FOR UDHIYAH When a person sacrifices a Udhiyah animal, he is forgiven at the fall of the first drop of blood, and verily, the animal shall be brought forward on the Day of Judgment with its blood, meat etc. and shall be increased in weight seventy times more than its own weight, and thereafter it will be placed on the scale of deeds. PREREQUISITES FOR THE ANIMAL TO BE SACRIFICED: 1. The animal should reach the required age, which is six months for a lamb, one year for a goat, two years for a cow and five years for a camel. 2.

It should be free of any faults, because the Prophet said: There are four that will not do for (صلى هللا عليه وسلم ( sacrifice: a one-eyed animal whose defect is obvious, a sick animal whose sickness is obvious, a lame animal whose limp is obvious and an emaciated animal that has no marrow in its bones. اتفق مجهور أهل العلم على أنه ال جيزئ من اإلبل والب ر واملعز إال الثين فم فواه وجيزئ من الضأن اجلذع فم فواه انظر إعالء السنن / اجلذع من الضأن م متت له ستة أشهر فيجوز أن يضحى به إذاك ن اجلذع عظيم حبيث لو خلط ابلثني ت يشتبه على الن ظر من بعد والثين من الضأن واملعز م أمت سنة. والثين من الب ر م أمت سنتني.والثين من اإلبل م أمت مس سنني تبيني ا ل ئق 7 6/ بدائع الصن ئع / أربع ال جتوز يف األض حي كم يف حديث الرباء بن ع زب رضي هللا عنه ا : ا رسو هللا صلى هللا عليه وسلم : " أربع ال جتوز يف األض حي: العوراء البيني عوره واملريضة البيني مرضه والعرج ء البيني ظ ل ع ه ( أي: عرجه ) والكسري) أي: املنكسرة ) ويف لفظ: والعجف ء ( أي: املهزولة( اليت ال تن ي ( أي: ال مخ هل لضعفه وهزاهل ) " أخرجه أمحد وأصح ب السنن بسند صحيح.

26 TIME FOR THE SACRIFICE Udhiyah takes place after the Eid Prayer on the Day of Nahr or Eid Al-Adha and is carried out during the three days of Eid, namely the 10th, 11th and 12th of Dhul Hijjah with the intention of offering sacrifice. The Prophet ( ا لل ع ل ي ه و س ل م (ص ل ى said: Whoever sacrifices before the prayer, let him repeat it. (Bukhari and Muslim). ينتهي وات الذبح بغروب مشس اليوم الث ين من أ يم التشريق أي أن أ يم النحر ثالثة يوم العيد ويوم ن بعده. وهذا او عمر وعلي وابن عمر وابن عب س وأ ب هريرة رضي هللا عنهم وهو او ا لنفية وامل لكية وا لن بلة وبه ا الثوري وابراهيم النخعي احتجوا ب وله تع ل: ل ي ش ه د وا م ن ف ع هل م و ي ذ ك ر وا اس م ا لل يف أ ي م م ع ل وم ت ع ل ى م ر ز ا ه م م ن هب يم ة األ ن ع م سورة ا لج اآلية 28. فحملوا األ يم املعلوم ت على يوم النحر ويومني بعده ا ا ل فظ ابن عبد الرب: وروي ذلك عن ابن عمر - رضي هللا عنه - من وجوه. وبه ا اإلم م م لك وأصح به وأبو يوسف ال ضي. وروين عن م لك وعن أ ب يوسف أيض أهنم ا ال: الذي نذهب إليه يف األ يم املعلوم ت أهن أ يم النحر: يوم النحر ويوم ن بعده ألن هللا تع ل ا : و ي ذ ك ر وا اس م ا لل يف أ ي م م ع ل وم ت ع ل ى م ر ز ا ه م م ن هب يم ة األ ن ع م سورة ا لج اآلية 28. فعلى او م لك ومن اتبعه يوم النحر معلوم أي من املعلوم ت ليس مبعدود أي ليس من املعدودات واليوم ن بعده معدودات معلوم ت )2(. وهو او مج عة من الصح بة هم عمر وعلي وابن عب س وأ ب هريرة رضي هللا عنهم ا اإلم م أمحد: ]أ يم النحر ثالثة عن غري واحد من أصح ب رسو هللا صلى هللا عليه وسلم[. ويف رواية أخرى عنه ا : ]مسة من أصح ب رسو هللا[. وروى م لك عن انفع أن ابن عمر - رضي هللا عنه - ا : ]األضحى يوم ن بعد يوم األضحى[ )2( االستذك ر 200 /15 وعن أنس رضي هللا عنه ا : ا رسو هللا صلى هللا عليه وسلم يوم النحر: )منك ن ذبح ابل الصالة فليعد ف م رجل ف ي رسو هللا... ) رواه البخ ري ومسلم

27 WHAT SHOULD BE DONE WITH THE SACRIFICE? It is recommended to divide the meat into three One third for consumption One third to be given as gifts One third to be given in charity Scholars agree that it is not permissible to sell anything from its meat, fat or skin. The Prophet said: Whoever sells the skin of (ص ل ى ا لل ع ل ي ه و س ل م ( his Udhiyah, there is no Udhiyah for him (i.e., it is not counted as udhiyah). أنه يستحب اسمته أثالاث ل وله: )كلوا وتصداوا وأطعموا( فتح الب ري / ورد عن النب صلى هللا عليه وسلم أنه ا : )من ابع جلد أضحيته فال أضحية له( رواه ا ل كم وا : حديث صحيح. ورواه البيه ي

(Sahih ). "The Prophet ( ا لل ع ل ي ه و س ل م (ص ل ى would not go out on the day of breaking the fast (Eid al- Fitr) until he had eaten and on the day of sacrifice (Eid al Adha) he would not eat until he had returned [from Salât]" This is related by at-tirmidhî and Ibn Majah and also by Sunan Ad-Dâramî who added: "And he would eat from his sacrifice."
