4 About Us History Ja miah Kha tamun Nabiyeen, commonly known as JKN Institute was established in June 1996 from the residence of Shaykh Mufti Saiful Isla m. With the Help of Alla h, JKN Institute has accelerated to become a nationally and internationally recognised institute of learning. We deliver courses for all ages, children and adults, mornings and evenings, full-time and part-time. We also hold many regular events and seminars on a number of subject areas throughout the year. JKN Institute Evening Courses in English JKN Institute has 2 decades of experience in teaching classical Islamic Texts to adults from all backgrounds ranging from the most basic texts in Arabic up to some of the most advanced. JKN Institute is one of the first Institutes in the UK that developed a curriculum for adults with families, those in fulltime employment and with other commitments. JKN Institute has been continually modifying its course design over the years to suit the needs of its students and to prepare them for wider society. This brochure details just the evening courses which are delivered in English/Arabic. We have a two year Islamic Foundations Programme for beginners (Basic Level Islamic Studies), which leads onto the 2 year Intermediate Classical Arabic Studies, where students learn solely from books in Arabic. Students who achieve a good pass at this level can then join our holistic and well structured A limiyyah Course in English/Arabic, which is over 5 years. Our Vision To bring the light of true Islamic Knowledge to all, through the medium of traditional learning, publications and audio mediums. To empower Muslims in becoming active Muslim citizens through positive and healthy spiritual, ethical, psychological, physical and academic values. 2

5 Islamic Foundations Programme The Islamic Foundations Programme is a two year Programme for those who are learning about Islam for the first time, or those who wish to gain more knowledge of the basics of Islam. The two year course is designed to teach the essentials of Islam and what is demanded of us as Muslims to fulfil our obligations to our Creator and wider society. The two years are modular and students can pick and choose their preferred modules. This is an excellent opportunity for students to familiarise themselves will Islamic learning, to join a community of students and Muslim scholars and to spiritually boost Iman and character. Year 1 - This year has been designed for beginners who are new to learning. Year 2 - This year has been designed for those students who wish to progress to the next level of learning. The course modules run Monday and Friday 7:15pm pm. The Arabic Language modules run Wednesday 7:15pm pm. See for details of the times for each module. Joining this course has been one of the best decisions of my life. I made great friends and formed a great relationship with the ulama who teach there. I highly recommend others do the same. 7 Classical Arabic Studies The Classical Arabic Studies is a two year course for those who are more serious about learning. These two years focus on building competencies in the Arabic language so that students are confident to read Arabic fluently without diacritics (tashkeel), are able to translate the Holy Quran, Arabic text from books of fiqh and hadith and are able to write Arabic. The two years consist of compulsory modules. This is an excellent opportunity for students to familiarise themselves with Arabic as a language and become familiar with Islamic texts in preparation to begin studying the specialised Islamic sciences from the original Arabic texts. Year 1 - This year has been designed for students to gain familiarity with Arabic texts. All modules are taught in Arabic. Year 2 - This year has been designed for those students who wish to progress to the A limiyyah Programme. The course modules run Monday, Wednesday and Friday 6:00pm pm. 9 A limiyyah Foundation The first two years of the A limiyyah Programme (Foundation) have been developed to provide students with the fundamentals of the majority of the sciences they require to be able to tackle advanced and academically demanding classical texts. These two years focus mainly on the competencies of the students to be able to translate and understand Arabic text from challenging books and to gain a holistic understanding of theology, hadith, Islamic law, Arabic language, logic and grasp an ability to research, critically analyse text and to write academically. *Students will also study Islamic research techniques in Al-Buhuth al-islamiyyah Level 1. The two years consist of compulsory modules. This is an excellent opportunity for students to familiarise themselves with Arabic as a language and become familiar with Islamic texts in preparation to begin studying the Islamic sciences from the original Arabic texts. 12 A limiyyah Advanced The last three years of the A limiyyah Programme (Advanced) have been developed to provide students the fundamentals they require to be able to undertake independent research and academic writing, to teach at advanced level, and to specialise in an area of interest. The course ensures a good advanced grounding in Islamic knowledge, and an understanding of the historical and contemporary contexts to the sciences and the society they apply this knowledge to. Students are developed to be thinkers who have a good analytical and holistic understanding of the society they serve. *Students will also study Islamic research techniques in Al-Buhuth al-islamiyyah Level 2 and Level 3 The modules are based around three main themes: 1. Advanced Knowledge of Islamic Sciences 2. A satisfactory understanding of the important contemporary western sciences including the Trivium (grammar, logic and rhetoric). 3. Minimum age of enrolment is 14 years. Minimum age for A limiyyah Foundation is 16 years (there may be exceptional circumstances). 2. All new applicants must pay 50 admission fee when submitting the application form. 3. Please ensure all details are completed and accurate when submitting the application form. 4. Application form and admission fee must be submitted at the Al-Mumin Bookshop during office hours Mon - Fri (10am - 4pm) or contact Mufti Abdul Waheed on The applicant/guardian must ensure they keep up to date with termly fees. 6. No new admissions will be accepted after the deadline for the Ālimiyyah courses. 7. An assessment will be carried out on students wanting to join the Intermediate Islamic Studies or A limiyyah Courses to ensure students are in the appropriate academic year. 8.
