1 KALARATHNA SHAMNADIGA KUMBLE Full name of Kalarathna Shamnadiga Kumble is SHANKARANARAYANA Adiga.K. He is born in in Kumbla of Kasaragod Taluk of Kerala State in an well known Vaidik family. His father is Gopalakrishna Adiga, who was an eminent scholar, Archak, Brahmavahaka and well known Astrologer. Mother s name is Smt. Girijamma. Shamnadiga was very enthusiastic in art and culture since from his childhood. He wrote Kanipura Suprabhatha, a suprabhata and devotional songs of Kanipura Sri Gopalakrisha Devaru of Kumbla. He also wrote several devotional songs and most of them were recorded in audio cassette. His nonliterary services were started while he was in 7 th standard, and his first devotional song was published and same was converted in to audio cassette in the year 1980 when he was studying in 10 th standard itself. His various literary works were published in various news papers, and most of them were converted in audio cassettes. He started to write kannada dramas in his 16th age and the First Drama was Kanipura, the story of the Kanipura Sri Gopalakrisha of Kumbla temple. Thereafter, he stared to act in his own dramas. He wrote more than 50 Dramasa both on Epical and Historical fields, and out of them the stories of Shaniprabhava, Veeabhadra, Chaladankamalla, Mruthasanjeevini, Chauti Chandira, Kalikarna, Prachanda Parashu, Babruvahana, Chiranjeevi, Manimanjeera, Jwalamukhi, Vajra Kathari, Chandrahasa, Mrugendravahini, Mookambika, Bettada Deepa, Krishna Sudama, Chatrapati Shivaji, Bhakta Prahlada etc.. and he directed it and acted in the main role and out of those Dramas most of them had the opportunity to cross 50 displays. He secured KALARATHNA Honour by Dakshina Kannada kalabhimanigala Okkoota, Kinnigoli for his best performance in his Drama VEERABHADRA which got 7 state rewards in one show!. He continued to be an

2 eminent artist in Drama Field till 1992 and also secured KALA GANDHARVA reward along with Kalarathna. Since 1992, Shamnadiga changed his taste in the field of art, and selected to perform HARIKATHA, the Art of God, and started with Parshurama harikathe in the year ACHIEVEMENT IN HARIKATHA FIELD Shamnadiga started rendering Harikatha in the year There is no former Guru for him but he accepted Santa Bhadragiri Achutha Das of Dasashrama Bangaluru as his Manasa Guru and followed his style and his persuasions. He has performed Harikatha at various places including most of the Kshethras/temples of Dakshina Kannada, Bangaluru, Chanarayapattana, Bagalakote, Mudhola, Yellapur, Udupi, Kolluru, Horanadu, and various places of Kasaragod (Kerala) District. He has conducted more than 2500 Harikatha at above stated places. -: BESTOWALS OF SHAMNADIGA :Shamnadiga started to teach Harikatha to children, in his residence in the year The School was denominated as KEERTHANA KUTEERA, which is the place for the study of culture, art and Harikatha on the basis of Adhyatma. The first student of this school was his elder Daughter, Shambhavi. Gradually, the children started to join his school. Now 45 students are studying Harikatha under the guidance of Shamnadiga here. Most of them are ladies, aged 5 years upto 20 years. Paryaya Pradarshana : Shamnadiga started a new style in Harikatha performance namely Paryaya Pradarshana, is nothing but the Relay show of a single story. 3 or more students are participating in this style. One child starts the story and upto certain limit and he/she stops there and another child continues it.

3 Paryaya Pradarshana Paryaya Pradarshana Janti Pradasrshana :- This is another style where two children performs one story by discussing the contents of the story each other and give conclusion to the story at the end. (Janti Harikathe (Syamanthaka)

5 HARIKEERHANA BHAVA-VAIBHAVA : This unique pattern in harikathe was started with the instigation of Shamnadiga in at Hosabettu during the 60th Harikeerthana yajna being performed under Grama Sangha (R) Hosabettu. This requires some explanation. Here, three or more Haridasa are the participants. In this type of performance each Haridasas are having their own responsibility. There is no particular story. But, each Haridasa are given Three rounds and in each rounds the presentation pattern are deferent. In one round, each of them are given with particular Bhava, means expression of certain events, like, Shringara, Dasya, Vatsalya, Raudra etc. Each haridasa shall perform certain event in any epical story and shall present that particular Bhava before the audience. The second round is meant for the presentation of Nava Vidha Bhakthi (9 modes of Bhakthi, viz, Shravana, Keerthana, Smarana, Padasevana, Archana, Vandana, Dasya, Sakhya, Athmanivedana) If one Haridasa is particularized with Shravana Bhakthi he must present the same with narration of Keerthana, drushtanthas (examples), shlokas etc. and convince the audience what it is! In the third round, each Haridasa gives the picture of various types of Sahithya (materials) used in Harikathas. There are various types of sahithys like, Shloks, dwipadis, chatushpadis, Shatpadis,Kanda, Gamaka, Lavani, Drama/Yakshagana songs, Vrithas, Chandassu.. and he explains how and at which places they are being used in a performance. After each participants did their responsibilities, one Samanwayakara co-ordinate it and give shape to entire programme. This is the idea expressed by Shamnadiga, and he wants to display it in the stage with his students shortly with full preparation.

8 KEERTHANAKUTEERA- THE SCHOOL FOR LEARNING HARIKATHA Shamnadiga started the school for learning Harikatha in the year 2003 and named it as KEERTHANA KUTEERA. In the initial stage the strength was just 12 till But, later on number of parents showed their interest in seeing their kids learning Harikatha, the number has increased. Now, the strength is 45, out of which about 20 children are prepared to perform Harikathe independently for 45 minutes to 1.30 hours Keerthanakuteera got the Honour of KALASHREE Award during the period of the Silver Jublee celebration of Rachana Sanscritika Sansthe Uppala.

9 ACTIVITIES THROUGH KEERTHANAKUTEERA: Keerthanakuteera created many budding Haridasa during theses 15 years. Keerthanakuteera has been performing Sapthahas (seven days Harikathe programme) at Kanipura Sri Gopalakrishna Temple, Kumbla in the month of November every year, after the Deepada Habba. (Deepavali) Hence this programme has been termed as Keerthana Habba. About 25 to 30 children and 7 elder Haridasas will give their performance in seven days. This is the world record as there is no such function in these field except by Keerthanakuteera. Keerthanakuuteera celebrated its Dashamanothsava in the year 2013, and in 2018 the Keerthana Habba celebrates its Dashamanothsava.
