1 SEPT/OCT 2018 VOLUME 48 NO. 1-2 St. Paul s United Church of Christ 47 South Whiteoak Street Kutztown, Pennsylvania Dear Members of St. Paul s UCC, Our Mission We, the family of St. Paul s UCC, guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ, are committed to carry His good news. We celebrate God s presence by sharing God s unconditional love with fellowship, worship and service to others. We pray for God s wisdom and compassion to lead us in our endeavors. CHURCH STAFF Rev. Dr Jennifer Bannerman. Pastor Barb Merkel...Office Secretary Judy Heffley.. Organist Carol Reinhard. Choir Director Donna Sheaffer. Bell Choir Director Boyd Lenich.... Sexton Here are two wonderful opportunities for you to grow in faith and learn new skills. I invite you to try something new and see what God can do through us. Pastor Jennifer Would you like to learn how to be more Christ centered? Just what does it mean to live a Christ Centered life, anyway? What does it mean to see through the eyes of Christ? How do we learn to see each other as human beings just like us and not as a label, or object? Would you like to learn a better way to process conflict and handle difficult relationships in the church and in your own life? Would you like to learn ways that you can make all of your relationships healthier? The more loving and Christ-centered that we can be as a congregation, the more hope that we can give to our community. CHURCH OFFICERS John Keiser..... President Tom Lenich Vice President Jerry Silberman Recording Secretary Cheryl Ziegler... Treasurer Marj Weida....Financial Secretary I ve already led the Transition Team through the training that can help us to develop a Christ Centered, Outward Mindset, as we look to the future for St. Paul s. Now I am offering it to anyone and everyone within the Congregation. Ashley Stofflet.....President Cheryl Ziegler... Vice President Christina Richard. Secretary Pastor s revjenban@yahoo.com Stpaulssecretary@hometownu.com There are two sessions for the training, offered in the evening and during the day, to make it available to as many of our members as possible. You can sign up for either evening or afternoon sessions. If you are interested, but cannot make these times, please let Pastor know, and we ll plan the training again for after the first of the year. If you can only attend the first session this Fall, you can complete the training when it is offered again. Continued on next page...
2 Continued from previous page. Christ-Centered/Outward Mindset Training schedule: Session #1 Thursday, September 27th, 6-8:30 pm Thursday, October 4th, 1-3:30 pm Session #2 Thursday, October 18th, 6-8:30 pm Thursday, November 8th, 1-3:30 pm MISSIONS COMMITTEE NEWS It is BACK TO SCHOOL time! And thanks to all of you who contributed to our drive for school supplies, many children at Bethany Children s Home and Friend Inc. will be well prepared for the school year ahead. The Mission Committee accepted your ample donations from July 8th through August 15th. Also, Louise Moyer arranged for additional collections through the children attending Vacation Bible School. Besides the physical supplies, we were also able to donate a check to both Bethany and Friend for them to buy other items that may be needed. Worship Planning Team Have you ever wondered what goes into planning a worship service and why we do the things that we do on Sunday mornings? Did you ever think that it would be fun to be a part of planning worship? Have you experienced meaningful worship in other churches and retreats that you would like to experience here? Do you ever get bored with Sunday morning worship and wish that we could do something new? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you would be a wonderful asset to our new worship planning team. The worship committee does a wonderful job taking care of the nuts and bolts of worship. Pastor Jennifer is inviting anyone who would love to be part of the creative process of worship to come join the new worship planning team. Thank you for your generosity and your caring, loving spirit! Kathy Landis What should be done then, my friends? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up. 1 Corinthians 14:26 As Paul told the Corinthians, worship is meant to be a joyous and fun celebration of each person s gift, brought together and offered in worship of God. Please consider bringing your gifts and talents and joining the team. Let Pastor Jennifer know if you are willing to step out in faith and try something new and be on the team. September 16 th Stay after worship. Transition Team to report on where our church is and where it is going.
