2 Greetings from Fr. Pat, My thanks to Don Zegers for extending his time and effort to fix a metal piece coming loose on top of the bell tower. Providing the lift and securing the metal piece to the tower was a time commitment. Parishioners doing various things like this keep the parishes running. Often you may not even know about it and I imagine there are many times I don t even know about it, but it gets done. Please know of my appreciation Don for this and to the many others that do things in and around the parishes without notice or fanfare. May God bless you for your generosity!! A special reminder about the Fall Festival this Tuesday at the Legion Club from 11am to 7pm. Come enjoy some food and build community at the same time. A note on Sunday s Gospel. Apostles James and John want to be at the right and left of Jesus in his glory. It is understandable that they would want to be with the Lord in glory. But are they asking for honor and power? To be part of what type of kingdom? Jesus states to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I drink or be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" The example of Jesus is a kingdom of service, giving of himself on the cross and by the Eucharist, that our Lord came not to be served but to serve. Jesus tells his apostles and calls us to a life of service. Honor, material things, or even power will fade away, rather a life in the example of Jesus directed toward service and neighbor brings peace as it is a life well lived. Our Lady of Mount Carmel pray for us! St. Francis of Assisi pray for us! ~~There will be a second collection this weekend Oct 20 & 21 for World Mission Sunday. Please be generous! There are envelopes in your Sunday envelope packets for this special collection. ~~Seeking Truth Bible Study: Building parish life through community study of God s Word. Please join us Thur 25 Oct, 7 pm in the St. Francis Church Hall. The lesson this week will be Peter & James, Acts In the vestibule of church there is a poster with a pocket with the lesson for the upcoming week for you to fill out if you are interested in joining us. All are welcome. ~~Neligh St. Francis Ladies Rosary Sodality will hold their annual Fall Festival on Tues 23 Oct at the Neligh Legion Club. Soup, Sandwiches, drinks and desserts will be served from 11 am to 7 pm. $7/adults and $3.50/kids 10 and under. ~~Rural St. John s, Clearwater will hold a Soup, sandwich, and dessert luncheon on Sun 28 Oct from 10:30 am to 1 pm. 3 St. Francis of Assisi families responsible for cleaning the church in October Oct 25 Joe Funk, Dan Murray, Brad Higgins If you are unable to fulfill your assigned time, please find a substitute. **St. Francis Rosary Sodality will hold their Annual Fall Festival on Tues 23 Oct at the Neligh Legion Club. Soup, sandwiches, drinks and desserts will be served from 11 am to 7 pm. Adults $7.00 and children 10 and under $3.50. Everyone welcome. Praying for vocations: Our Travelling Vocation Cross has started its journey thru our parish families again as we continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood. Jane Ruterbories is now hosting the Vocation Cross. Please contact Kathy Sauser for hosting arrangement. Vocation prayer cards for your use may be found at the back of church and in the vocation cross box. Wednesday 24 October Grades K pm Regular Class Grades :15 to 8:30 pm Regular Class. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel will be hosting a presentation on The Mass by Bishop Barron for three sessions, Oct 21, 28 & Nov 4. Each secession will begin at 7:00 pm and will last approximately two hours. The secessions will be held at the Parish Hall in Tilden. All are invited to attend! These secessions are informal and are a great way to gain a deeper understanding of the Mass! OLMC Catholic Women will have CCD students handing out suckers in support of Lick Domestic Violence month. Money collected will go to Bright Horizons in Norfolk. There will be a second collection the weekend of Oct 27 & 28 for this cause and Suckers will be handed out after mass. Thanks to all for your help in supporting this project. ~~A small library is available in the landing of OLMC church basement for the purpose of sharing faith based books. No check-out is necessary, just borrow and return. Pope John XXIII School News Pope John XXIII High School will present their annual Dinner Theatre featuring " Franknstein Slept Here" on Sat 17 Nov in the St. Boniface Gym. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m, with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. and show at 7:00 p.m. Advance tickets only for the dinner and show are $20 (all ages). Tickets for the show only are $10 for adults and $5 for students K- 12th. No advanced tickets will be sold for the show only. Contact any drama student or the high school at Deadline is Wed 7th, Nov. 4 ~~St. Boniface Parish in Elgin is taking orders for their famous Thanksgiving Bazaar Sausage. The sausage will be processed at Wausa Lockers once again. Rings or patties are individually weighed and priced at the $4.99 per pound price. Pre-ordered sausage must be picked up from the St. Boniface church basement on Saturday, November 17 between 5-7 p.m. If you anticipate not being able to pick it up at that time, sausage will also be sold at the bazaar on Thanksgiving Day. To place your order please call Bonnie Hoefer, , and leave a message by October 22. Please leave your name, phone number, number of pounds you want, and please indicate if you want rings or patties. ~~The St. Bonaventure Soup Supper will be Sunday, November 11 from 4:30-7:30 pm at the Raeville Hall. Homemade Chili, Vegetable, and Chicken Noodle Soups, Fresh Bread, Crackers, Relish, Pie and Dessert will be served. Take outs will be available. It's a free will offering. With the beginning of the storm season and the recent devastating impact of Hurricanes Florence and Michael in the Carolinas and Florida, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has called for a 2018 Disasters Collection. The funds collected in this special appeal for 2018 Disasters will be used to support the efforts of Catholic Charities USA and/or Catholic Relief Services. These relief agencies of the U.S. Catholic Church and their local agencies respond to immediate emergency needs for pastoral and reconstruction needs of the Church. Funds will be used in response to any natural disasters that occur this year. A second collection will be taken at the weekend masses on November 3 rd and 4 th. Please consider supporting this collection St. Francis Rosary Sodality Meeting October 9, 2018 Donna Vice opened the meeting with a prayer at 6:30. The minutes of the September meeting were read and approved. The treasurers report showed a working balance of $4, The CCD teachers were appreciative of the $50 per grade donation to be used at their discretion. Sue Seier reported all was going well with the plans for the Fall Festival. The ladies were encouraged to sign up on the work sheet. Members will be called that have not yet signed up. The collection for the Seminary Fund was collected as well as a prayer was offered. President Donna Vice closed the meeting with a prayer.
