1 FORT BENNING PROTESTANT WOMEN OF THE CHAPEL NEWSLETTER V O L U M E 1, I S S U E 1 Letter from Lauren S E P T E M B E R Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14 Are You Walking In Love? What thoughts and concerns does that question raise in you? I'm continually processing it in my heart and mind. If I'm honest, most of the time, I measure how I'm doing by how people react to me. Sometimes, I'm just striving to make the people around me happy. God says "our walk" should be a reflection to a relationship with Him and we should conduct ourselves in a manner pleasing to Him in every way. Paul says this to the Colossians in 1: "...We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light." The question really should be, are you walking in a manner worthy of the Lord? Paul says "our walk" is qualified by bearing fruit, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened in His power, and giving joyful thanks...not by how people react to me. Love is characterized in very active words here. It is God working through us in these things that will show the world the Father's great love for His people. He, in turn, takes pleasure in our good deeds and rejoices in the work of His own grace and power! He works in us that which pleases Him. So, how are you walking in a manner worthy of the Lord...with your kids?...at work?...with your husband?...in school?...with your neighbors?...with the Lord Himself? I'm encouraged to walk together with the ladies of PWOC this year as we learn how to live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way. May our hearts, first, be devoted to our God, and then, so reflect for others, the true meaning of "walking in love". Lauren Dillard Benning PWOC President 2012/13

2 P A G E 2 Prayer Corner Jesus taught His disciples how to pray He gave them a mondel in Matthew 6:9-13 Pray, then, in this way. Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom Come. Your willl be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from even. For Yours is the kingdom and the Power and the glory forever. Amen Many people only feel prayer is necessary at the worst times in life however, it should be a daily part of our lives. It is a simple way to talk with God to express your love for Him and bring to Him your problems. Always know that He s listening and cares about the things that are on your heart. Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Club Beyond, a ministry to military teenagers in grades 6-12, is an ecumenical ministry sponsored Proverbs 22:6 by the Chaplain s office. This ministry serves teens that have a relationship with Jesus Christ and also with those who need to be introduced to the Lifegiver. Steve and Paige Paquette are about to begin their 10 th year serving the teens here at Ft. Benning. Steve is on staff with Young Life, a relational ministry for teens. Club Beyond has something for all teens. Weekly clubs are a time for teens to come together, play fun games, and hear a message about God s love for them. There is also a Bible study called Beyond Club that is for teens who want to go deeper in their relationship with the Lifegiver. Throughout the year, teens have opportunities to participate in weekend camps, a Spring Break service project, summer camps, and much more. You shall have them for food. Genesis 1:29 Recipe from the Chef Easy Baked Caramel Corn 1 cup(2 sticks Butter) 1 t Baking Soda ½ cup Light Corn Syrup 1 t Vanilla 2 cups Firmly Packed Brown Sugar 6 Qts Popped Popcorn (no hulls) Salt (to taste) Heat oven to 250 degrees. Melt butter in saucepan, stir in brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Bring to a boil stirring constantly. Boil without stirring for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda and vanilla. Gradually pour over popped corn mixing well. Turn into two large buttered shallow baking pans. Bake at 250 degrees for 1 hour stirring every 15 minutes. Remove from oven and cool. Break apart and store in tightly closed containers.
