1 MAY 23, 2017 RICHLAND HILLS CHRISTIAN CHURCH THE CHURCH VISITOR Let us praise God for what He has done, what He is doing and what He is going to do as we go forward. And let us praise God for His great mercy and love that He extends to us every day and with every breath we take. Discipleship and Moving Forward This past Sunday I provided a link between being a Disciple, and all that entails, and being mature in our faith. You see, maturity begins to take the focus off of us and our desires and instead helps us to focus on what God wants. But something has to happen in our hearts in a meaningful way in order for this to happen. God s love has to overcome us in ways many have never experienced and always leads to change for the individual and the Body of Christ. Look at what the prophet Isaiah tells us: 18 But forget all that it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. 19 For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. We can certainly rejoice in the past of our church and all it has done over the years, but we can also look forward to the future that is here in our midst. Young families stepping up and more people joining. It s a true testament to God s activity in this church. What makes a Disciple? o Commitment to following Christ o Emulating the life of Christ o Passing on the teachings of Christ God calls and we respond! Sunday, May 28, 2017 Sermon Series: Not by Accident: Everything on PURPOSE Sermon Title: Let s Do Something Already: Ministry Sermon Text: Ephesians 4:11-16 (NLT) Richland Hills Christian Church 3908 Ruth Road Richland Hills, TX (817) Senior Pastor: Paul Klaus Website: info.rhcc@gmail.com

3 Weekly Scripture Memory Verse - May 28 " I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective when you perceive all the good that we[a] may do for Christ." Philemon 6 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) Why should I memorize Scripture? Memorizing Scripture allows us to share with unbelievers better. We are urged in 1 Peter 3:15 to always be ready to give a defense for our hope in Christ. We should memorize Scripture so we can walk unbelievers through the salvation message and help them understand their sin and need for a Savior. Speaking God s words instead of our own will give our message more authority and will harness the power that is in the Word of God (Isaiah 55:11; Hebrews 4:12; Jeremiah 23:29). WORSHIP Summer is just around the corner and the Worship Committee has planned some great services for the month of June. We invite everyone to participate. Please see the list below: June 4th Pentecost Sunday! Wear Red Day!!! We want to fill the sanctuary with red! June 11th Western Day! Everyone is encouraged to wear their western attire to church. June 18th Father s Day/Team Day! Get out those favorite team shirts and wear them to church. Let s see how many different teams are represented that day. June 25th Hawaiian Shirt Day! Pastor Paul s favorite shirt day!!! Let s make the sanctuary colorful with all the tropical shirts!

6 STAGE RENOVATION UPDATE As many of you may or may not know, a commi2ee was formed about 18 months ago to look into the possibility of expanding the stage area in the sanctuary. This is not a new idea, and something that has been discussed for the last 20 years with differing degrees of enthusiasm. We understand that all of us have memories in this sanctuary, and we all have emodonal Des to it, which make embarking on a project like this that much more difficult. We, as a commi2ee, have discussed and re-discussed many, many opdons and developed a plan which would help to increase the funcdonality of the stage while maintaining the overall beauty of our sanctuary, which is a primary concern for all of us. Some of the specifics of the plan include a rectangular stage area 35x15, which would require removal of the first three pews on both sides of the front secdon. In addidon, some addidonal floor plugs will be added for electrical and sound enhancements. Brown vinyl wood planks were chosen to cover the stage because of its durability and scratch resistance. The height of the stage will not change, but there will be wider steps across the endre front and small set of stairs on each side. It was determined that it would be prudent to replace the endre carpet at the Dme the stage area is renovated, not necessarily to make a change, but to replace carpet that has only been replaced once in almost 50 years. The communion table and the cross will remain as they are now. There are some other updates planned for the sanctuary but hopefully this helps describe the stage area. I want to emphasize that this project has not been planned without prayerful and careful consideradon of as many opdons as we could think of or were presented with, and we have tried to be good listeners and respect all opinions; but, uldmately, decisions have to be finalized in order for progress to occur. We plan to have a meedng arer church in the near future to answer any addidonal quesdons from the congregadon. Our hope is that this project will help the RHCC family encourage more people to experience the message of Jesus Christ. Alan Baker Leadership Team Pastor Paul is now caught up to a point where he will start placing articles in your boxes again about varying topics to help you further develop as a leader. So, stop by your box on Sunday (in the parlor) and find a great and timely article about facilities and how we are to look at them as churches grow. Also, if you have articles or information you would like to share, please make copies and put it in the leadership boxes also.

7 Welcome New Members: A Quick Hello from Barney and Linda Barnette Barney is a 5 th generation Texan, born in Houston, and attended college at Texas Tech in Lubbock. He is a Master Electrician and has taught at two DFW electrical institutes for many years. You may want to ask him to tell you his Marine story, about the 1960 Olympics, and who he once played chess with. Barney contracted a strain of pneumonia and suffered severe damage to his lungs and heart. So when you see him around the church, he is not contagious he just has to be careful. Barney & Linda Barnette Linda is a Nashville native, and moved to Texas when she married Barney in Be sure and ask Linda how they met. In her former life, she was in HR/Employee Relations as well as an Academic Reference librarian for the Trinity River TCC. She is now answering God s call and is attending Brite Divinity School to become a chaplain. Linda will be serving her Brite Supervised Ministry at RHCC during the Fall 2017/Spring 2018 semesters. Linda is also participating in a 10-Week Clinical Pastoral Care (CPE) Summer Unit, so there may be some Sundays when she is absent as hours and shifts vary to provide real world experience in the training environment. We are grateful to be able to serve the Lord with such a dedicated group of Christians, and look forward to knowing everyone better. In His name, Barney and Linda Barnette Please keep our Sanctuary food & drink FREE! Our Worship Committee has asked that you honor their request for not bringing food or beverages in the sanctuary. At some point we will be putting in new carpet and this will help to keep it clean! Water bottles are acceptable. Also, we ask that you put all gum wrappers, cough drop wrappers, used Kleenex, etc. in the trash - not in the pews. Trashcans have been placed right outside of the sanctuary for your use. Thank you for all of your help in keeping our sanctuary clean! Seeker s Class begins study of REVELATION We began our study last Sunday - but, you can still join in. We meet at 9:15 am and would love to have you!
