3 FROM PASTOR CRAIG Finish Strong I think we all know Aesop s Fable about the tortoise and the hare. The hare went about bragging how he was the fastest animal there was until finally the tortoise couldn t stand it anymore. A race was setup and soon the tortoise was on his way slow to be sure, but still on his way. The hare saw how slow the tortoise was moving so he took a little nap. When he awoke he saw how little ground the tortoise had covered so he ate a big meal and then fell asleep again. This time when he awoke he saw the tortoise far off in the distance. He raced as fast as he could but got to the finish line just behind the tortoise. The tortoise won and left us with the moral: slow and steady wins the race. We ve talked the last couple of weeks about finishing strong in 2012 and functioning as a body where every part is working well and fulfilling its purpose. But as we think about finishing strong we need to be careful not to be the hare, rushing about at the very end frantically trying to make up for lost ground. We have 4 months left before 2012 comes to an end, plenty of time for consistent, faithful service that becomes habit and blesses the Kingdom and our world. One-time opportunities are fine, but I pray you will look for something that is a fit for your calling and gifts and passions; something (or someone) you want to make an investment in for months or years. Search for that something God made you to do. As we finish strong in 2012 let us keep before us the words of the writer of Hebrews: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3 Bless Your Heart! 4 The school year is off to a start and we are excited to see how God moves at our campuses this fall. Sign-up for Great Fall, Sept , is underway and the cost is $80 if you sign up by Sept 5 th and $95 if you sign up after that day. We are also starting our Student Leadership Team on Sunday, September 9 th at 5pm. All students are invited and welcome to join us. Great things are ahead for us this fall. Give Grace, Live Truth, Reflect Jesus Tyler Gatewood , x. 22; tyler@manchacabaptist.org God is at work! Sunday, August 26 th, we baptized 7 folks at our combined service 6 kids and an adult. We will baptize several more people, mostly teenagers and, again, an adult. All of the baptisms are a precious and powerful act of obedience and testimony to the church, but the baptism of an adult is always special. Baptisms of adults are a bit rare for a variety of reasons; and so when a grown up steps forward for the symbol of salvation we are so grateful! There was a great crowd on Sunday for our combined service and our potluck (although I missed the deviled eggs again and I even cut in line!). Thanks to all the folks who prepared, served and cleaned-up after the meal and put away the tables and chairs. Have a blessed week! In Christ, John Berryhill , x. 26; john@manchacabaptist.org Summer break is almost over for MBC s Fellowship Bowling League. We will be starting back up on Monday, Sept. 10 th. If you are interested in joining the League, we will have our first meeting at Westgate Lanes, Monday, Aug. 27 th at 6:55 p.m. For more information, contact Duane Lancaster or Lee Lancaster at

LORD CHANGE MY ATTITUDE LORD CHANGE Friday Morning Ladies Bible Study 9:30 a.m. Room E115 Workbooks $15 An attitude is a pattern of thinking formed over time. We choose it it s not circumstances or our genes. This means we can change our attitude, and who doesn t need some adjustment? Wed. Night Ladies Bible Study Walking with God Join us on Wednesday nights starting August 8th for a group discussion time as we work through the book, Walking with God by author John Eldredge. Books can be purchased on Amazon or at any major bookstore. This is an incredibly well written how to guide for anyone interested in a deeper, more intimate walk with God. Christian author, counselor and teacher John Eldredge writes from the heart in a tender, poignant and down-to earth style that makes reading a pleasure. He says; This is a series of stories of what it looks like to walk with God, over the course of about a year. So begins a remarkable narrative of one man s journey learning to hear the voice of God.
8 Room Reservations If you are planning a special event, or if you would like to reserve one of the rooms here at church, please contact the church office in order to reserve your date or room. This will ensure all activities are placed on the calendar and prevent double booking. STUDENT MINISTRY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Student Ministry AV Team Want to serve in the Student Ministry? We are looking for AV help on Wednesday Nights. We need someone to help run sound and computer production. Tyler will teach you the computer program that we use each week (it is very easy to learn). Student Ministry Fundraising Team We are looking for a few creative, innovative people to join our Fundraising Team. We are trying to organize a team that will help plan and implement fundraisers for the Student Ministry. The more money we raise, the less students will have to pay for our events. More Students + Less Cost = WIN! If you are interested in either one of the above, or would like more information, please the Student Ministry at tyler@manchacabaptist.org.
