1 The MESSENGER March 2018 Volume 6, Issue 3 Two years ago, on March 6, 2016, the people of Manchaca Baptist Church came together to launch the Freedom Initiative Campaign. The Freedom Initiative is our effort to release our church from the debt we are carrying so that more resources can be used for ministry and missions. On Commitment Sunday in March of 2016, we had $1,295, in pledges come in (to be given over a 3 year period). I am so proud to announce that over a 2 year period we have already had $1,073, donated towards this effort. With that money, we have already paid off $744, of our debt, and we have over $50,000 sitting in the bank waiting for the best time to call more bonds and reduce this debt even more! We have also had the privilege of sponsoring one home which has been built at Mobile Loaves and Fishes Community First Village and recently have been able to begin preparations of sponsoring another home! As you know, this organization helps restore the lives of the chronically homeless. In addition to the above, we have been able to give $59, to Texas Missions, the North America Mission Board, and the International Mission Board to help take the gospel all over the world. God s Kingdom work is being done, and we are breaking free from the bondage of our debt in order to be able to participate in even more of His Kingdom work in the future! To those of you who have given to the Freedom Initiative, THANK YOU! Thank you for your generosity and commitment to reaching the greater south Austin area and beyond with the gospel. To those of you who have joined MBC after we began The Freedom Initiative and were not here to make a pledge, or to those of you who were a part of MBC but just could not participate at that time, it s not too late to join in! We need your help. Our goal is to have this debt paid off by March of 2019, and we cannot do it without you. As you prayerfully consider giving to the Freedom Initiative, you may do so at any time by giving online at our website ( or through designating Freedom Initiative in the memo of your check or envelope that you place in the offering on any Sunday. I am hopeful that as the Lord continues to provide opportunities to give that we can reach our original goal of $1,500,000 by or before March of 2019! In the month of March our Preschoolers theme is Gone Fishin and it just seems perfect since this month is all about Jesus and how He taught the disciples to be fishers of men. How did they learn to be fishers of men? Well, they followed Jesus and we want our preschoolers to know that they can follow Jesus too! Also, this month our kindergarten-5th graders will spend the month of March learning about finding peace in the middle of all of the madness (get it March Madness)? This is a basketball theme and they will learn that because of Jesus, we can have peace and we don t have to get even when we are wronged or treated unfairly. In- Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 The Lord shook me up through this verse-reminding to look beyond circumstance into the hope that is laid up for me in heaven. It s hard to be strong when we don t feel strong; it requires deep recognition of the spiritual truths we learned in kindergarten (Think Jesus Loves Me ). It restead, we can reflect the character of Christ by caring for others and making peace. Finally, on the 31st of this month we will have our church wide Easter Eggstravaganza and we would love to have you there. It is a pleasure to serve alongside you and I can t wait to see what this month brings! 3 Student Ministry Hey MBC Family! I cannot begin to tell you how exciting it is in Student Ministry right now. God is moving in our students lives, and we are beginning to see fruit being bared. Students are opening up, but also showing up! We have noticed a steady growth over the last 2 months and are praying the Lord continues what He is doing in MBC Students. If your student hasn t been able to make it yet, I hope you ll help them arrange their schedules, so they can be here. It has truly been a fruitful experience. This month we will be diving into the cross and the last words Jesus gives us before He dies. Our hope with this series is for any student who doesn t know Jesus personally, that they would come to know Him over this series. I am really excited about this series and everything it entails. Please be praying for Jesus to be working in the hearts of our students as we look at Jesus sacrifice. We will also be closing this series with an Invite Night party. Even though we regularly encourage students to bring their friends to experience Jesus, once a semester we throw a big party to make it a little easier for them. During this time, we present the Gospel and try and create room for conversations around it while having fun. This semester we are having Mess Fest. Basically, this is a giant food fight out in the field behind the church. We ll worship, teach a lesson, grab some food, and then throw other food on each other. This will be a big, fun, mess your student won t wanna miss! As March begins we ask that you continue to join us in prayer! Pray for everything we listed above, but also pray for students who may not know Jesus yet. Pray that they would come connect with us and experience Him for themselves. We also ask that you pray for Jesus to continue what He is doing in MBC Students. Last, we ask that you pray for everyone at MBC, including yourself, to be open, willing, and given courage, to respond to the grace, mercy, and love that Jesus brought with the cross. I pray that as Easter approaches, we are constantly reminded that when Jesus was suffering and dying on a tree, He was thinking of you and me. Often, the act of standing is synonymous with being firm in your convictions. James 5:11 says, Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful. Standing also was a theme in the miracles performed by Jesus and the apostles as the afflicted were commanded to stand to prove that they d been healed; Lazarus stood and walked out of the grave, the lame man jumped and leaped to the temple. Standing is used to show great honor; people stand for royalty and judges alike as they enter the room. Lastly, standing is used to illustrate an ascension of status; a knight kneels as a soldier and stands as a knight after the King promotes him, a vindicated criminal sits as suspect and stands as the judge exonerates him, the murderer Moses falls on his face in front of a Holy God in a burning bush but stands as a prophet. So it is with good reason that we stand as we sing to God; we are honoring him, we are proclaiming our faith, and we are living out our status as sons and daughters. Now I know not all people can physically stand for an entire service, or just can t stand because of what s on their heart, and that s why next month I ll talk about sitting as a posture of worship. MBC collects various items all throughout the year. For the month of March we are collecting tools, fishing supplies, caps and shirts for boys ages Items to be donated all year are: shoeboxes, and cash donations which we will use to buy items for the boxes and for shipping.
