2 2 Pastors Pen Four Lenses, One Jesus God s Gift of Four Distinct Gospels New Worship Series Beginning May 27 Since many have undertaken to set down an orderly account of the events that have been fulfilled among us... I too decided, after investigating everything carefully from the very first, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus. Luke 1:1-4 May 27 Jesus through Mark s Eyes: the Assertive Messiah June 3 Jesus through Matthew s Eyes: the Teaching Messiah June 10 Jesus through Luke s Eyes: the Healing Messiah June 17 Jesus through John s Eyes: the Loving Messiah Matthew, Mark, Luke and John... ever wondered why our Bible has four different Gospel accounts of Jesus life? Around the year 170AD the church father, Tatian, completed what he thought would be his great gift to the church: the Diatesseron (which means from four ). It was a single document that harmonizes our four Gospels into one single narrative. Basically, we wouldn t have to carry around four Gospels anymore! What s remarkable is that the church prayerfully considered Tatian s Diatesseron... and rejected it as scripture. Instead, they were convinced that the Holy Spirit intends us to have as scripture four coherent but not identical portraits of Jesus. But why? As we continue our yearlong attention to the person of Jesus, we re going to take four weeks to focus in turn on each Gospel writer s distinct perspective on the One they call the Christ. By asking what aspects of Jesus each writer emphasizes, we ll discover a unique literary and theological genius in each of the four evangelists. More importantly, we will clarify and deepen our own understanding of the One we follow. Grace & peace, Pastor David

Jackson High School; awarded the Senior Fine Arts Award. Plans to attend Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle and is excited to be a part of the Cornish Jazz Music Program. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 8:37-39

8 Other News NCPC Summer Covenant Group Summer Dates to Remember We invite you to covenant to study The Beatitudes by Rev. Darrell Johnson for 5 Thursdays at 7:00 pm: July 5, 12, 19, 26, and August 2.

We will study the last 5 beatitudes together. Read the first five chapters of the book before the first meeting. Books $15. RSVP peg.joe@outlook.

The previous covenant group studied the first 3 beatitudes. We will study the last 5 beatitudes together. Read the first five chapters of the book before the first meeting. Books $15.
