4 FALL FESTIVAL AT JCPC The 12th Annual Fall Festival at JCPC will be Saturday, November 3 from 8:00am 2:00pm. The cost is $25 per table and there are applications on the Signup Table. There are also promo flyers for you to share with your friends and neighbors. We need crafters and shoppers. Please help us get the word out! FOLLOW UP MEETING There will be a follow up meeting for further discussion on the Haunted House part of the JCPC Halloween Festival on Sunday, October 7, immediately after worship in the Youth Room. ONE-ELEVEN WALKS Mondays 5:30pm September 17-October 22 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 1:11 Join us on our leisurely ONE-ELEVEN WALKS through our community in an effort to learn more about our neighbors and their needs. These walks will be brief and are not for teaching or converting people, but rather opportunities to observe so we are better equipped to serve. Contact Amy Brixey: bisskut27@gmail.com or THE μυριάς CHALLENGE The μυριάς challenge (μυριάς translated: a number too big and in Greek culture it is the number for 10,000) that Pastor John brought to the congregation is to commit to do 10,000 hours of helping those in need starting in September 2018 and running until August of These hours can be accomplished by individual work, work by groups within the church and/or work taken on by the entire church. The objective of this challenge is based on what Paul said to the Ephesians. He suggested that real happiness comes from following God and one thing God demands is that we help those in need. There is a sheet on the signup table to record activities and hours donated for that month, or you can call the church office, , and let Lisa know what you have done and how many hours you donated. FESTIVAL OF SHARING The Festival of Sharing is an interfaith celebration and gathering of mission resources in response to world hunger and poverty and seeks to address and to raise awareness of its root causes and solutions. Festival of Sharing supports a variety of agencies across Missouri, including food pantries, community outreach centers, domestic violence centers, foster and adoption programs and more. For information on factors that cause people to fall into poverty and to identify actions that lift them out of poverty, read the Missouri Poverty Report here: poverty report 2018 missouri - Community Action Agency of St. Louis... This report contains data to illustrate the five key factors that have been identified that affect poverty: economic and family security, education, food and nutrition, health, and housing and energy. A struggle in any one of the areas affects other parts of people's lives. At 15% the Missouri rate is higher than the national poverty rate of 12.7% and 21% of children in Missouri live in families with incomes below the national poverty threshold. One of the many ways people of faith can support this outreach is to donate specific items to assemble care kits such as the Student Dental pack, the Paper Products pack, the Women s Prison pack, and the Personal Hygiene Pack. Our church has chosen to collect the requested items for the PAPER PRODUCTS PACK. These items will be collected here at JCPC and then assembled off-site and distributed throughout agencies within Missouri. The donations we collect will also help credit hours to our 10,000 Hours Program. Each pack we make is equal to $15 and for each pack we will add 1 hour to the volunteer hours. THIS PROGRAM IS SPONSORED BY THE JCPC PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN. THE FINAL COLLECTION DATE IS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7. SPECIFIC ITEMS that we are asking you to donate for the PAPER PRODUCTS PACK: wrapped packages of toilet paper (must be a double-roll package of 4 rolls) wrapped roll paper towels (good quality, high absorbency) large rectangle box facial tissue (Kleenex or other good quality brand)

5 TRUNK OR TREAT SATURDAY OCTOBER 27 Trunk or Treat is fun time for kids where people bring their cars and pass out candy from their car trunks. We need decorated cars and treat givers for the children from 7-10pm. Please decorate your car and dress in costume! There is no charge for this event. $2 FOR AGES 12 AND OVER $1 FOR ALL UNDER AGE 12 Beginning this Sunday, we are going to begin a new approach to our Christian Educational effort on Sunday morning. Kara is a Junior at Lindenwood University and spent last summer in Denver. As part of her work, she worked with Senior High Youth. Kara is designing a class using social media to discuss Bible concepts along with looking at modern issues facing high school youth. Bring you cell phone, ipad or ipod. This class is for those individuals in high school. Junior High Youth This class will meet during Sunday Morning Worship from 10:30 until 11:30. The leader is Jennifer Hardy. Jennifer is in the educational industry and has taught this age group before. She will be using a workbook called FLYTE. This stands for Faith, Life, Together. It is designed for pre-teens to look at the Bible as it applies to current issues in their lives. This class will meet in the Junior High Room. This class is for all those in 5th grade through not yet in high school. Kid's Club This class will begin with a message from Mr. K during worship and will lead into the Kid's Club program led by Robin Kinquist and Mary Ridge. Along with this program we will still provide child care with Megan Buscher. They will continue to use a curriculum based on a Bible story and will involve crafts and other projects.
