Our Principal s Pencil "What color is God's skin?"..it's black, it s brown, it's yellow, it is red, and it's white. Everyone's the same in the good Lord's sight!" So sang the popular Up With People group a few years ago. Part of our dream here at St. Anthony's is to have our students experience this reality amongst themselves and in the adults who lay down their lives for them each day. We truly are blessed to have a diverse representation of cultures here, including Asian, Hispanic, Euro- American and, serving as host culture, African American. Our school has evolved a beautiful blending of backgrounds that provides our students with opportunities to widen their understanding of each other Much as diversity does for the city of Greenville, St. Anthony's diversity adds to the richness of the educational process. The economic challenges our families face mirror those that confront our city. Our children s religious backgrounds are as varied as can be, with a minority of them being Roman Catholic. IMAGINATION Club visited Michelin as part of STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) program The Volunteers who come to assist us in every conceivable aspect also bring diverse experiences of time, talent and treasure. Global "accents" can be heard on any given day! Technology will broaden our students "travels" even more in the near future. As adults our students can truly be citizens of the World, bringing the Kingdom to others.

4 After Saint Anthony s Lamar & Lewis Percival started their school- life at Lake Forest elementary. Some family changes led them to St. Anthony School, where their Dad and two of their aunts attended elementary. They say that St. Anthony s had a good environment for them, where it felt like God was involved in every school day. They say that their teachers were encouraging and helpful, and that as students they couldn t get away with anything. These were mischievous young men.and the teachers made them work hard. When they moved on to Beck Middle School, they found lots of drama there, and they had the usual adjustment challenges; the school was bigger, there were lockers and quick class transition times. They missed their St. Anthony friends and teachers. They managed to survive middle school and are now playing football and wrestling for Wade Hampton High School, as well as working out at the YMCA regularly. They hope to go to Clemson or College of Charleston or Coastal Carolina, and they are motivated to study hard to achieve their goals. Stay tuned! Our Pastor s Pen At some point in life, wisdom sets in a little more deeply. We look around less afraid, more self assured, finding the world quite an adventure. This takes a lonnnnnng time for people who surround themselves with people just like them. The wisdom comes much more quickly, with joy and no fear as we grow up around people who are unique and challenging to get to know. Your tolerance and unity muscles develop and you can handle more diversity. Your eyes also become accustomed to how exciting differences can be. At St. Anthony's we have been blessed to have a family God gathers. He does the invitation and we all accept. So many different people come! As we see Him calling them we acknowledge that He must be making good choices. People of every sort bring special gifts. Language, dance, literature, values of Godliness, Fr. Patrick Tuttle, OFM family bonds, use of goods, gatherings and celebrations, these all make up what God is bringing to the table for us to enjoy. My prayer for you is that you become that less afraid, more self assured, muscularly welcoming soul - so as to become a citizen of the Kingdom of God. That King is calling everybody, everybody! That King is calling you. You are why we are proudly diverse.
