I agree on that count. I haven't read anywhere in any of the texts suggesting that any of the deities mentioned were born from a divine mother. What has been mentioned many times, however is that they were either born from a brother/sister-husband/wife relationship, or in the case of Hercules and Achilles they were born from mortal mothers and god-like fathers. It's interesting to note in the Norse texts that the only such relationship between brother and sister occurred with Aegir and Ran, although it was also suggested that the Vanir God Njord's wife (mother of Frey and Freyja) was his sister, but such relationships weren't allowed among the Aesir deities. The two resurrections I can think of bearing any similarity to Christ's crucifixion is Odin hanging from the world tree Yggdrassil (he pierced himself in the side with his spear) and Baldur returning after Ragnarok. So of course I'm talking about the time of the roots, rather than the evolutions and roles of the gods throughout time. I see what you mean now. Tyr's status (and loss of it) has a parallel with the Celtic God/King Nuada. They both lost their hands, and the powers that be forbade them to rule because they weren't entirely whole. Saturday, March 15th, 2008 Translate: Ger->Eng Eng->Ger #15 SwordOfTheVistula Been reading up on this stuff some more lately An interesting hypothesis that I have seen is that the bible, in particular Genesis and the 'old testament' was appropriated from the Persians and contains the ancient Indo-Aryan warrior mentality. The key part of this is to subsume the individual to the tribe, and remove fear and other emotions which come with a higher level of thinking (higher IQ, ability to predict the future, etc). This has also been distilled into perhaps its most pure form in Zen Buddhism in Japan, which was the code of the Samurai (via Hinduism and Buddhism being derived from it) The basic gist of the whole thing is that with a higher level of thinking and the ability to predict the future came negative things such as fear. You can't feel fear

4 4 of 7 10/18/ :30 AM without the ability to predict the future. Fear isn't a good thing though, particularly when it comes to such things as war, so to overcome it requires faith. The goal of religion is to remove thoughts of mortality and replace them with faith-to prevent 'overthinking'. This allows the creation of a warrior class which will fight fanatically without regard to their individual mortality. A completely rational individual would never do any such thing. But the implication that Jesus didn't exist, or had his story copied, flies in the face of historical evidence. I'm curious. What historical evidence exists that supports the existence of a man named Jesus who met all the characteristics of the Jesus mentioned in the Bible? Can you please present some contemporary evidence or an eyewitness documentation of the events of thew gospels? Horus was born from a phallus that his mother Isis fashioned from clay after Osiris' original member was lost in the Nile. While there were a number of dying-resurrecting god-man cults, the claim by these conspiracy theorists in films like Zeitgeist or Esoteric Agenda that the myths of the Buddha, Krishna or various other deities follow the Jesus myth down to the letter, are just plain false. The Buddha and Krishna were never crucified and resurrected. Dionysus was never crucified and resurrected.. When the Romans adopted Christianity, they blended the story with Mediterranean pagan elements like virgin birth, resurrection and solar symbolism this much is true. Pagan epithets of Isis were ascribed to the "Blessed Virgin Mary" (i.e. Star of the Sea, Patroness of Seafarers, Dome of Gold, Throne etc.) and Mediterranean god epithets transferred to Jesus (i.e. The Good Shepherd, Light of the World... both epithets of Mithras) The Romanization of Christianity is reflected in the movement of the Sabbath from the original Saturday to Sunday, the day of the Sun. The Church hierarchy is nothing more than a grand model of the Pagan priest colleges... That much is true. On an interesting, but related note... A title later ascribed to the Virgin.. Domus Aurea, lit. "Dome of Gold" was originally the name of Nero's palace. Much the opposite. The fact that the Jesus story resembled earlier traditions would have been considered a point in its favor. The ancients would have been suspicious of any religious figure that did not follow known traditions.
