Executive Committee Team Leader: Randall Jackson Sometimes an association is a gauge of how its churches are doing, and sometimes it is a catalyst to help its churches do better. This has been a year when the NBA has done both. After years of prayer and planning for our renewed vision for ministry in Middle Tennessee, we have come to see our ministry structure strengthened and a movement of existing churches experiencing revitalization. The NBA has also become a key player in supporting new church starts and their leaders. 11 In Memoriam: Mike Overcash Mike Overcash was instrumental in developing the Nashville Baptist Association chainsaw/mud-out disaster relief unit in In 2015, Mike led efforts for the NBA to purchase a shower/laundry trailer. In the weeks before his death, Mike worked with Paul Vawtner to prepare the shower trailer to be used over the summer. Mike, a former employee of LifeWay Christian Resources, served several Tennessee Baptist churches as minister of music and was on staff at the Tennessee Baptist Convention from 1995 to 2001 as computer services specialist and as interim director of Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief in Mike s passion for disaster relief ministry fueled his hard work and dedication and serves as an inspiring legacy to those who were blessed to learn from and serve with him. The Nashville Baptist Association is grateful for the dedicated service of Mike Overcash. On September 25, 2016, the Nashville Baptist association honors Mike Overcash by renaming the NBA shower trailer to the Mike Overcash Memorial Trailer 11

Missions Team (continued) The Church The definition of a local church, as described in the Baptist Faith and Message is: A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel; observing the two ordinances of Christ, governed by His laws, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. Each congregation operates under the Lordship of Christ through democratic processes. In such a congregation each member is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord. Its scriptural officers are pastors/elders/overseers and deacons. Flowing from the definition of a church given above and from the Scriptures from which this definition is derived, we will observe the following guidelines in church planting, leadership training and statistical reporting. 1. A church is intentional about being a church. Members think of themselves as a church. They are committed to one another and to God in pursuing all that Scripture requires of a church. 2. A church has an identifiable membership of baptized believers in Jesus Christ. 3. A church practices the baptism of believers only by immersing them in water. 4. A church observes the Lord s Supper on a regular basis. 5. Under the authority of the local church and its leadership, members may be assigned to carry out the ordinances. 6. A church submits to the inerrant word of God as the ultimate authority for all that it believes and does. 7. A church meets regularly for worship, prayer, the study of God s word, and fellowship. Members of the church minister to one another s needs, hold each other accountable, and exercise church discipline as needed. Members encourage one another and build each other up in holiness, maturity in Christ, and love. 8. A church embraces its responsibility to fulfill the Great Commission, both locally and globally, from the beginning of its existence as a church. 9. A church is autonomous and self-governing under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the authority of His Word. 10. A church has identifiable leaders, who are scrutinized and set apart according to the qualifications set forth in Scripture. A church recognizes two Biblical offices of church leadership: 12

Covenant of Commitment for Application into the Nashville Baptist Association Member churches will participate in NBA training and fellowship events. Member churches should practice theology and ministry consistent with the Baptist Faith and Message. All participating churches and missions who are members of the NBA are encouraged to give at least 3% of undesignated gifts annually to the NBA to assist NBA ministry. Each partnering church is expected to make a financial contribution to the NBA each year, monthly if possible. Member churches will fill out and return Annual Church Profile to the NBA office no later than November 1 each year. Failure of a church to send a profile two years in succession shall render it subject to review by the Mission Team to determine its status in the association or to offer counsel regarding the preparation of the annual church profile. Each member church will provide the NBA office with the names, addresses and s of key leaders who will be sent the Beacon each month. Member churches will participate in the NBA Annual Meeting each year in September, and quarterly Executive Board meetings. Each church may be represented at Executive board meetings by the Pastor, a staff member and one lay member or two lay members when a church does not have staff. NBA staff will meet with church leadership to help them understand the ministry of the Association during the application process for membership. To become a fully recognized member of the Nashville Baptist Association, your church will approve this document. After review and approval of the Mission Team, the Mission Team will bring your church for approval to the annual meeting or a Quarterly Board meeting. 15 The City Reach goal is to bring churches, associations, institutions and other TBC networks together to penetrate lostness though evangelism and ministry that lead to church revitalization and church planting. The purpose of City Reach is to build a broad collaborative base in a specific geographic location, which could include multiple, diverse networks who are planting, revitalizing and leading TBC churches. This in order to primarily discern need and develop strategies toward the goal of seeing lostness penetrated in the major urban centers of Tennessee. Nashville Project Overview Each city could concentrate on areas where they have the most need or have projects that need assistance Identification of short-term and long-term projects Summary of each project summary would include: Name or names of the church Brief history of the church Leadership of the local project (pastor or local lay leader)» Contact info and role in the project Needs of the church and community Identification of people groups or target community What the local project needs (i.e.: prayer walking, VBS, survey, leadership) What you would like to see out of a partnership on this project Logistics (Who is responsible) Housing Meals Materials Transportation Plan B Alternatives Medical Follow-up on work City Experience: One night during the project, the team would be taken out by local leader, and vision would be cast for the mission needs of the city. Fun Things to Do in the City 15

Equipping Team Larry Floyd The Equipping Team did not function as a team last year. However, a new team is being assembled, and our goal is to come alongside any church that requests help in areas of discipleship and worship. Based on the needs of the church, we will work on a plan and strategy to strengthen areas that need attention. Please call upon us and request that we help you in a specific need. Let s join cooperatively to strengthen and enlarge God s Kingdom. Revitalization Team Bill Blair When it comes to church revitalization, everyone keeps asking, How do I turn my church around? In most cases, people are looking for a specific plan or process that, if applied properly, will produce revitalization. We all want a formula, a plan that will be a quick and easy method that will turn a church around, but we all know that such a formula does not exist. Deep down, we all know that church revitalization is a long journey of seeking God s will for our churches. From its inception, the NBA revitalization team has sought to develop a plan that can help churches move towards a turnaround. As we wrestled with this idea, it became clear that no single plan could be applied to all churches. We believe that the key for revitalization is not to develop THE plan, but to help churches discover God s plan for their church, with their people, and in their specific community. To this end, we developed an approach that we believe will help churches and their pastors discover this plan. As the team examined the NBA, our approach will focus on three key areas that we have identified as successful in helping churches and pastors. The NBA will focus its efforts on seeing churches helping churches, pastors helping pastors, and to provide coaching and training for these churches as they discover God s plan for their church. Summaries of these elements are as follows: Churches Helping Churches: The NBA will seek to connect churches that desire to expand the kingdom of God through a variety of church partnerships. Pastors Helping Pastors: The NBA is seeking to create a peer support network where pastors can help one another through encouragement, mentoring, and through peer learning opportunities. One such opportunity is the Pastor s Roundtable (a pastor small group), which was recently launched. Coaching and training: The NBA staff and Revitalization Team can offer a variety of workshops, trainings, and other learning opportunities that can be selected to fit a church s needs. In addition to this, the NBA can assist you in discovering the demographics of your community through the mapping program the staff has access to. Please contact the NBA staff or the church revitalization team for more information. 16

Overview Church Planting Team Team Leader: Michael Cunningham The church planting team experienced some wonderful milestones in First, and most importantly, we welcomed Ben Adkison as the new church planting strategist for our association. The first part of the year saw the team assist Ben as we restructured our methods and the team itself. The result is a more streamlined process that will help church planting take hold in Nashville. Improved church planter fellowships, featuring renowned speakers, fostered a more healthy collaboration between the Nashville church planting community. The team assessed a "Nashville Next" study that predicts a million new Nashville residents in the next years. New areas and cultures of need were identified, and strategies were developed to help bolster the gospel in those communities. Training opportunities, such as Churches Planting Churches, as well as state and NAMB replant conferences were attended by local pastors. The Nashville Baptist Association welcomed the following new church starts: Grace Church Smyrna Pastor Tom Agnew Refuge Church Franklin Pastor Dustin Neeley Living Grace, Mt. Juliet Pastor Ken Weathersby Unity Covenant Church, Ashland City Pastor Derek Wright Logos Romanian Baptist Church, East Nashville Pastor John Gug Primera Iglesia Bautista de Donelson Pastor Jorge A. Primero Arabic Baptist Church, Nashville Pastor Ezzat Abosif International Community Church, Smyrna Pastor David Soukasene Finally, our team rejoiced with Dwayne Lewis and New Season Church, a 6-year-old NBA church plant. They were gifted the building of the former Bordeaux Baptist Church with the remnant of that congregation joining their fellowship. This gift allowed New Season to realize the dream of a permanent facility. Thank you for your support. Please pray for our team in the coming year as we seek to spread the gospel in Nashville through church planting. 17

Zone Reports Murfreesboro Road Zone The Murfreesboro Road Zone met this year to discuss how we could join our churches and resources to make a tangible impact in our community through a ministry venture. Hickory Hollow Baptist and Una Baptist met to plan a ministry to the incoming students. Joining together, and also with funding through the Nashville Baptist Association, we were able to purchase backpacks, paper, pencils, and other essential school items. The churches met in the parking lot of Una Baptist on August 7 and gave out supplies to more than 250 children! Our thanks to the NBA for supporting us and to the people of the Churches of the Murfreesboro Road Zone who volunteered to be there and make a great impact on our community. Antioch First Baptist also received funds to provide school supplies to neighborhood children. Antioch First Baptist held a back-to-school bash on August 7. More than 100 people attended. Along with passing out 95 bags and six backpacks filled with school supplies, we also had a prayer station. We received many prayer requests and were able to pray individually with three separate families. Thank you to the NBA for helping to support this effort. Southeast Nashville has become a multi-cultural community. In an effort to minister to the community, Smith Springs Baptist Church, Iglesia Bautista Renacer, Without Limits Christian Center, the Smith Springs Baptist Church Egyptian English as a second language group, and the Nashville Baptist Association cosponsored a Cross Cultural Community Event on October 10 that drew a crowd of approximately 150 people from the community. The event accomplished three distinct purposes. The first was for some of the different culture churches of the community to work together to reach out to the community. The four different sponsoring culture groups had a wonderful time working together on this successful event. The second purpose was to get the people from the different cultures of the community to meet, interact with, and get to know people in other cultures in the community. Each sponsoring group provided food from their culture for people to taste. There was great conversation and fellowship among the People from different cultures enjoyed conversation and fellowship together as they sample foods of various cultures. The third and greatest purpose of the event was to present the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to each culture group in words and language that they could understand. This was done in both innovative and traditional manners, and several people responded to a public invitation for salvation or rededication of their lives to Christ. 18

Central Zone The NBA provided funding for intercity hunger programs at New Creation Baptist Church and First Street Missionary Baptist Church. These churches were blessed by ministering to 75 children a week for six months. The NBA provided financial resources to help First Street Missionary Baptist Church deliver 377 cases of water to a sister church in Flint, Michigan. Pastor Adric Kimbrough challenged First Street Church in April to collect 100 cases of water for a small church in Flint, Michigan. By June 15, the church had collected 377 cases of water. On June 16, pastor Adric Kimbrough and his wife Kimberly drove a rental truck to Flint, Michigan, to deliver the water. Eastern Zone Zone Leader: Bo Fawbush In 2016, the Eastern Zone has continued to seek to build fellowship and support among the churches in our zone. While there has been some turnover of zone pastors, many of those who remain continue to meet for prayer and encouragement. Last year, we initiated a monthly prayer meeting for pastors, and although we got off course for a few months, many pastors in our zone have renewed our commitment to meet. 19

Executive Director Rusty Sumrall We are living in Nashville at a time when our city is experiencing exponential growth. I have heard that as many as 90 people a day are moving into the Metro area. Many of these people are from other countries and states, and the majority of them are not Christ-followers. The 186 churches of the Nashville Baptist Association have the opportunity and challenge to share Christ with our new neighbors and to challenge our current members to stand for Christ in a changing city. Your NBA staff have committed our lives to serving NBA churches and leaders by doing everything we can do to resource you to reach our Jerusalem with the love of Christ. One hundred-seventeen of our NBA churches have had contact from one of our staff this year, and 125 of our 186 pastors have been engaged by one of our NBA ministers. I have had the blessing of representing the Association at missions fairs in NBA churches and in one church outside the Association. I led one NBA church through a strategy planning weekend. I led a multi-week conflict mediation process at another church and trained three pastor search committees. I preached 12 times during the year, made several hospital visits, and attended six funerals. I also was blessed to represent the NBA at the Tennessee Baptist Convention, North American Mission Board, and Union University Directors of Missions retreat. I am blessed to serve with a highly qualified, dedicated, faithful, and hard-working ministry team. Each of them is working on goals for the new year, and several have shared their goals in their reports. Thank you, JoAnn, Tammy, Ray, Jack, Ben, and John for your excellent service to the churches of the NBA. Here are some of my goals for : 1. At least two pastor support groups 2. A pastors wives support group 3. Pastors wives retreat 4. Every NBA church having a meaningful contact with an NBA staff person 5. All teams organized and functioning to assist churches 6. Four new church starts 7. Every church that requests assistance from the NBA office will receive a timely and effective response. 8. Quarterly board meetings will become a celebration of what God is doing in and through our NBA churches. 9. All NBA churches will understand City Reach and have an opportunity to request assistance. 10. The NBA office will become a first choice in seeking resources and assistance for more NBA churches. Thank you for the great honor and joy of serving with you and for you through the Nashville Baptist Association. God has great opportunities and blessings in our future. God bless you, Rusty Sumrall Executive Director/ Lead Coach 20

Equipping Strategist Jack Carver The Nashville Baptist Association is a collection of churches with differing worship styles, language groups, ministry strategies, leadership structures, facilities, and mission support systems. You don t have to speak with very many pastors and church leaders to realize that each church faces challenges and opportunities that require strategies and resources tailored to their particular challenges. One size does not fit all when it comes to strengthening and revitalizing our churches. It is with this reality that I approach my responsibilities as the Church Strengthening Strategist for the NBA. Over the course of the past 10 months I have had direct contact with 27 pastors in the northern and eastern zones of the association, and I participated in various gatherings of those groups. I visited 22 churches. I had the privilege of speaking in four churches and consulted with several churches and individuals. I assisted five of our churches with getting valuable demographic information through the services of the Mapping Center for Church Growth. Again, I have discovered that our churches and their leaders face differing challenges and opportunities. I had the opportunity to work with Mark Miller of the Tennessee Baptist Convention in conducting a wellattended regional Sunday School leadership conference. I also had the joy of working with the enthusiastic leaders of the Spanish Sunday School Leadership Conference in organizing and conducting a dynamic afternoon of leadership training for 142 Spanish speaking church leaders. Along with other staff members, I participated in the TBC Church Revitalization Workshop in Knoxville. I am excited to be working with our capable and focused NBA staff. We are praying and working together to assist churches, pastors, staff members, lay leaders, and church planters to effectively carry out the ministry to which God has called them. We are seeking to coordinate all of our efforts toward the goal of strengthening and revitalizing the churches of Nashville Baptist Association. Among my goals for the next year is to develop an effective Church Equipping Team to focus on the leadership development needs of our churches corpo-rately and individually. This team will discern significant leadership development needs in our churches and seek to provide resources and training events to help meet those needs. Another goal is to create ways for our pastors to fellowship together, learn together, and support each other in their respective fields of ministry. I ve discovered that pastors, like other professional groups, desire to get with other pastors to discuss their dreams, challenges, and opportunities. Healthy pastors are an essential aspect of growing healthy churches. There are other goals, but space prevents me from sharing more extensively. Just know that your NBA staff is concerned for the health and development of all our churches. Pray for us as we seek ways to strengthen the churches and their leaders to accomplish the purposes for which God has brought them into existence. 21

The more I travel around Nashville, the more I am aware of the excitement, the diversity and the challenges of reaching the city of Nashville. I am indeed grateful for being here. Some highlights for me this past year were: Visiting on average three churches per week Assisting with the starting of four language churches Promoted backyard VBS in Sugar Valley and Lenox Village (our neighborhood. About 2500 homes and growing!) Printed an evangelistic flip chart to be used in story telling/evangelism Worked with the revitalization team. Three churches have a new growth pattern. Preaching in the Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and Burmese churches Conferences Attended: The national revitalization conference in Orlando, Florida in November 2015 Bible story telling training at Brentwood Baptist, led by IMB missionaries Attended Bible story telling training in Normal, Illinois Traveled to Israel with Brentwood Baptist and IMB missionaries to develop a Bible translation strategy with IMB missionaries. Attended the people search workshop conducted by the IMB in an effort to discover people groups in Nashville. Led team of six pastors to High Desert Church in Victorville, California, for Oikos training. Goals for 2016: Preaching in International Church Continue to be available to pastors Mission Strategist Ray Fairchild Implement Oikos evangelism strategy in at least 10 more churches Implement storytelling in at least five churches Begin at least two new language churches Conduct three language retreats for international people groups New Arabic Church Training 100+ people in personal evangelism and another 150+ indirectly in personal Evangelism Helped four churches implement the Oikos evangelism strategy Developed an outward-focused training clinic for churches Trained 250 Brazilian pastors and lay people in outward focus Provided demographic data for 8 churches Oikos training in Victorville, California 22

Testimonies: From Kent Shingleton Sometimes churches wonder how an association is making a difference? I've just returned from a seminar at High Desert Church that was made possible through the ministry of N.B.A. and Ray Fairchild. What a blessing! The Biblical principles and training we received was powerful. I absolutely believe that God desires to use the "oikos" model to transform our church and many other churches to radically impact lostness in Middle Tennessee. I can't wait to see what will play out over the years to come. It's so refreshing to be reminded that this is not just another program or strategy...but instead a plan for every follower of Christ to change "their" world. Bottom line, God has given each of us somewhere between 8-15 people as our oikos. Thank you N.B.A. for investing in my ministry and our church. This weekend was a game changer. Kent Shingleton, Pastor - Hope Fellowship Church From Gary Bourgeois, Temple Baptist: Eight to Fifteen, the World is Smaller than You Think Tom Mercer helped me understand that evangelism isn t simply one of the spiritual disciplines of Christianity but rather, it is the one that gives perspective to all the others. It is the only one that will not be not be perfected in heaven for it will not be performed there. Therefore, it is important that we apply the other disciplines in a way that helps us fulfill the goal of evangelism in this life. Our time is short, we must make the most of it. Mercer speaks succinctly and with imagery that is easily understood. He made me realize that when a church centers its energy on evangelism it will find its greatest joys, but when it doesn t it will ultimately find lethargy. I came away understanding that when the other disciplines are simply seen as ends in themselves then the church resorts to simply pushing them as a Christian s duty. But when evangelism is allowed its proper place, its balancing perspective, then the passion of Christ for the lost will drive the Christian to give them his all. Oh, that the church would fully grasp this. From Bill Blair, Mill Creek Baptist: Thanks so much for making it possible for me to go on that trip. I pray that God uses it to grow his Kingdom. Here is my quote: "The concept of the Oikos is not new or unique, but the way HDC applies the principle to its entire ministry is. This trip showed me that the application of the Oikos principle does not necessarily cause a church to change its form, but causes it to change its focus. The principle can be applied in any context because every believer has ability to change the world by introducing their friends and family to Jesus. More churches should follow HDC's lead by putting their focus on equipping their members to reach their Oikos with the love of Jesus Christ." If you would like more information on how to implement the oikos prayer/evangelism strategy in your church and hear other testimonials of how this missionary strategy is being used to reach and transform church contact me at rfarichild@. I encourage you to go to to hear Tom Mercer directly. The High Desert Church grew from 150 to 12,000 in 32 years by simply focusing on praying for lost people and equipping the members to be a witness to them. 23

Church Planting Strategist Ben Adkison Overview Since being hired by the Nashville Baptist Association in October of 2015 as the Church Planting Strategist, I ve sought to spend the majority of my time getting to know pastors, church planters, and denominational leaders around Nashville. My strategy has been first to understand the landscape of Nashville church planting, second to come alongside of the things that are already happening to support and encourage, and third to formulate a strategy for how to best act as a catalyst for further church planting in the greater Nashville area. Here s a brief overview of what I ve done: meetings with pastors / planters 20+ demographics reports 9 church planter s fellowships (5 NBA + 4 with other networks) 6 speaking / preaching opportunities 2 new church planters assessed 2 new church plants joined the association 2 meetings with the church planting team and multiple meetings with Mike Cunningham who leads the team A new pastor s luncheon to meet new pastors in our association P2 missions week - 5 student ministries worked with 5 different church planters in our city Worked on a minor rebrand of the NBA s logo Built and launched a new NBA website Coming Up Over the next year I hope to continue meeting with pastors and planters thought the NBA and the greater Nashville area. I want to continue to be used by God to act as a catalyst for church planting throughout our city and the world. I m especially passionate about trying to find helpful ways to bridge the gap between the great diversity within our association. I would love to see established churches and new church plants work together in increasing numbers. I would like to see the our ethnic churches have greater partnership with our African-American and Anglo churches. Personally, I want to better understand the differences between church planting, church revitalization, and church re-planting. My goal is to be more proficient in talking about these issues so as to better help the churches within our association. I also want to grow in my understanding of how established churches can best prepare to support and plant new churches. This is just a brief overview of the past year and the upcoming year. If you have questions, I would love to chat over coffee! It s been an honor to serve the Nashville Baptist Association this past year. 24

2015 Toy Store Pat Malone, Director The NBA Toy Store 2015 was another tremendous success, and Christmas was merrier for the 364 families (937 children) who were served through Toy Store ministry. Local churches, businesses, schools, and individuals provided 3,500 gifts. Each child received at least three toys. 145 bicycles were donated and distributed, and more than 5,000 stocking stuffers were given away. Families were given candy, wrapping paper, and the choice of a food item (rice or beans). Clothing items were also included for children ages infant to 11. Five people committed their lives to Christ! We want to thank the 30-plus churches that provided toys or donations and approximately 250 people who served as volunteers at the Toy Store. We also want to thank our ministry partners Toys for Tots, Shelby Avenue Baptist Church, Lifeway Christian Resources, Tennessee Baptist Convention, and Nashville Wraps for their generous contributions to the Toy Store Ministry. From Children Served 101,378 Families Served 36,351 Decisions 2,258 Ministry Assistants/Secretaries Ministry JoAnn Howard The NBA has begun a new ministry to all Ministry Assistants/Secretaries within the association. Last year we were able to scholarship two church secretaries to the TBCSA (Tennessee Baptist Convention Secretaries Association) Conference in April. We know how important you are to your churches and to the association. In 2017 we are planning a Prayer Event, so keep your eyes open for upcoming information. 25

P2 Missions 2016 The P2 Nashville Project was a great success, and the Lord blessed the work of our student teams. We had teams from four different states. Illinois, Ohio, Alabama and Tennessee. In total there were 99 participants that worked with 5 of our church plants around the city. Those church plants were Echo Church, New Seasons Church, Grace Church, Refuge Church, and Hope Community. In their training the youth learned how to make the Gospel applicable to their context. The teams served Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with their prospective church plants. They did backyard bible clubs, survey work, servant evangelism and prayer walking, along with some construction. On Monday night, the P2 teams had a special time on the pedestrian bridge in downtown Nashville. After a time of casting vision for the city, the teams prayed over Nashville and then walked down Broadway praying for the city. Thank you to Park Avenue Baptist Church for hosting P2. 99 participants 112 gospel presentations 1 salvation decision 15 people requested more information 19 people requested prayer 1,726 tracts were handed out! Pray that the impact of this week will be felt for years to come in the lives of the participants, those they ministered to, and our church planters. 26

2016 Theme: Live + Love+ Spe ak On July 18-23, 2016, more than 160 students and adults converged on Nashville for World Changers Their dedication and hard work during one of the hottest weeks this summer paid off in amazing ways. Thirteen crews completed work at 10 job sites and impacted countless lives in our city for God s Kingdom. Here is a look at the statistical report for the week: Gospel shared 93 times 45 people requested prayer 9 people had questions about their relationship to Jesus Christ 14 people requested more information 2 tracts were handed out 3 salvations 6 wheelchair ramps were built 5 homes were repaired through construction, landscaping, and painting We would like to thank the following churches and individuals for helping to make this a life-changing week for the students and our city: Haywood Hills Baptist Church for providing lodging and accommodations for World Changers participants and staff. Tusculum Hills, Rosedale, William Thompson at Tulip Grove, and the White Sunday School class at Forest Hills, who covered material costs for wheelchair ramps. Hermitage Hills Baptist Church for providing a shower trailer for the week and to Russell Armour for transporting the second shower trailer. Thank you to Paul Vawter, Cynthia Scott and all the other volunteers who helped set up, clean, oversee, and break down the trailers. Thank you also to churches who provided lunches for crews and staff: Smith Springs, Glenwood, Lakewood, Faith, Tulip Grove, Harpeth Heights, Forest Hills, Hermitage First Baptist, Grassland Heights, Ivy Memorial, Donelson First Baptist, Hermitage Hills, Una, Brentwood, and Judson. 27

WMU Director: Judy Scott Your Associational WMU team has been busy this past year providing opportunities for learning about missions "in Jerusalem Judea and Samaria, and throughout the world." We have promoted missions giving, missions praying, and missions living "that all may hear" the good news that "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes on Him may have eternal life." In October churches were encouraged to take their 1st-6th grade children to JAM, a TBC WMU event. JAM (Journeys into the Adventures of Missions) is a great opportunity for children to experience missions in a fun, exciting way. Several NBA churches were represented either as volunteers or attendees at the Middle Tennessee event held at Victory Baptist in Mt. Juliet. This event will take place there again this year on October 1. We sponsored the BWA Baptist Women World day of Prayer where we prayed for women and children's issues across the globe including poverty, hunger, dignity, human trafficking. In many parts of our world, women and girls are not cared for nor wanted. The event was held at Woodmont Baptist Church, November 4, with Kim Margrave from the TBC as our speaker. Forty people from eight churches attended. The purpose was to join other women across the globe in praying, so much time was spent in prayer. Lunch was provided. A short business meeting was held to elect a Co-Director. Judy Scott accepted the position. That evening, Hispanic women met at Esperanza Viva, which meets at Mount View Baptist Church, with Isabel Britton leading 30 women from eight churches in a Bible Study. An offering was given at each event and items were collected for the NBA Christmas Toy Store. The NBA Christmas Toy Store was held in December which included volunteers from WMU organizations across the association. In April, several members of the team attended Get Together in Gatlinburg where we met missionaries and came away with many new ideas to use in promoting missions. The NBA WMU Annual meeting was held at Tulip Grove Baptist Church, April 28th, with 95 people from six churches in attendance. Kendall Shirey was our featured speaker. In the Business session, we approved an updated constitution and bylaws. Officers were elected and Becky Sumrall gave the charge. The next two days, some of those Officers attended Frameworks, training for associational WMU leaders held by the TBC WMU in Murfeesboro. This year, Lena Plunk with National WMU suggested that Nashville would be a great place for a MyMission trip. What a great opportunity! With much prayer and planning, we had a great event that worked with associational churches and parachurch ministries in the area during the Memorial Day weekend. Young women from several states gave up their weekend to come and serve. Thank you, ladies. Thank you Ladies of Faith, Thank you to everyone who made this event happen. Praise be to God. TBC WMU was in charge of church WMU training this year. The conferences were interesting, informative, and inspiring. Several women from our association attended and or presented. Officers for this year: Judy Scott, Director Isabel Britton, Language Co-Consultant Ariadna Torres, Language Co-Consultant Sharon Herrera, Missions Involvement Consultant Brian Holt, RA/Challenger Consultant Cynthia Scott, Technology and Communications Consultant 28

Royal Ambassador Leadership Brian Holt This has been a great year for Royal Ambassadors in Nashville! Nashville Baptist Association RA groups are making their presence known in Tennessee with some of the strongest RA Ministries in the State year in and year out. The major event or the year was the Annual Royal Ambassador Wilderness Challenge. Wilderness Challenge is a camping event that featured a Christian speakers and missionaries for worship, Royal Racers (pine wood derby races) and the Campcraft Rodeo. It has become the second largest event for RAs in Tennessee and is recognized as one of the best events in the nation. We had 249 participants this year! The event is a two day event to make the event easier on churches coming from far east and west Tennessee and much more enjoyable for the boys and their leaders. The TBC is continuing to partner with us and provides promotions and other support resources as needed. Wilderness Challenge is later this year due to Easter Sunday and will be held on April 21-23, This year the TBC WMU hosted regional training for missions leaders and all but two of the leaders were from Nashville churches for RAs. It was a great turn out for us and it was exciting to meet with leaders who are truly working hard to make an impact in the lives of boys in our association. Leaders are embracing the NBA RA Leadership Teams view that RAs is a ministry of your church and if done properly can bring people into the church. When you look at the issues facing scouting today and the lack of positive male role models in the home, we can easily see the need for quality opportunity and need that exists for tomorrow s men. Nashville is excited to host the first newly revamped RA University in August of Tennessee RAs Lead Team has put together 4 training models to offer. Consulting services, are for individual churches needing training. RA Trainers will train leaders of a church then walk with them to coach and help them throughout the year. RA Express is a 2 hour training designed to hit highlight the important components of RAs to give leaders the basic tools they need to lead RAs at their church. This is designed for individual churches as well as associational and regional mission trainings. RA Academy is designed to be a 4 hour immersive training that gets into all aspects of RAs (missions ed, campcraft, racers, etc.) to help leaders make their RA Ministry stronger and engaging to the boys. This is designed to be a regional event including multiple associations. Lastly, is RA University, which is a 2 day, 8-10 hour training that takes a deep dive into RA Leadership. Leaders learn best practices for chapter meetings, teaching campcraft to boys, preparing events to engage the RAs and draw new members in, as well as how to do advancement and interest activities for boys. It event takes time to teach leaders about how boys learn and how to better manage the classroom in order to best reach the boys. This is one of the most successful events we offer in TN and is a great opportunity to help your church take RAs out of the church and into the community for Christ! Tennessee is leading the way in training nationally and we are so proud to be a part of that too! We covet your prayers for RAs as we continue to reach out to boys for Christ! Be in prayer for the boys of Nashville as they learn to be Ambassadors for Christ. Pray for Godly men and women who will serve as leaders that they will show the love of Christ to each and every boy who comes thru the door. Finally, be in prayer for the 2007 Dates for RAs in Nashville: Wilderness Challenge 2017 April Boxwell Reservation, Camp Craig RA University 2017 August TBD We are ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). 29

Vacation Bible School VBS Director: Lana Rose Submerged was our VBS theme for Submerged took our kids on an adventure like no other, deep within the mysterious sea. As they Submerged themselves in God s Word, they discovered that Jesus doesn t just see what s on the outside of people. He looks deep down on the inside. So we grabbed our goggles, stepped into our flippers, and dove in to find truth below the surface! Key Verse: Search me, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way. Psalm 139:23-24 (HCSB) Motto: Jesus sees. Jesus knows. Jesus saves. In our association this past year we hosted one preview event on January 19 th at Haywood Hills BC. The preview was for Pastors and VBS Directors (church teams were welcomed). We had approximately 30 attend. Our VBS Training Clinic was April 19th at Haywood Hills Baptist Church. We provided classes for Directors, Pastors, and all rotations including Students. We had approximately 81 attend that clinic. Your VBS Team for 2016 included: Dwayne Lewis, New Season Church; Nick Corbitt, Antioch, FBC; Laura Price, Antioch, FBC; Valerie Davidson, Oak Valley BC, Franklin; Todd Capps, Tulip Grove BC; Julie Heath, TBC WMU; Heather Beard, TBC; Vicki Evans; Harpeth Hts BC; Cheryl Lewis, LifeWay; Lana Rose, NBA VBS Director; and JoAnn Howard, NBA. Spanish Sunday School Training Vicky Regalado Our annual Spanish Sunday School training took place on August 27. We had 142 participants from 15 churches in the Nashville area. Seven workshops were offered for leaders of preschoolers to adults/general officers. Lifeway and the TBC provided special workers for the training. Also Lifeway provided Bible Studies for Life as a Spanish curriculum for Sunday School. Rosa and Ramon Martinez were recognized for 19 years of service in Spanish Sunday School ministry. 30

Mapping Center JoAnn Howard We were able to help save hundreds of hours of staff time through our mapping center. Churches were able to use the information from the mapping center to do canvassing, prayer - walking, backyard VBS mail-outs, block parties, neighborhood Bible studies and many other kinds of outreach projects. With this information, you receive contacts for new neighbors, unreached people, religions, ethnic groups, ethnicity, language, income, marital status, education, ages of adults and children, household size and ownership. Over this past year we were able to help 24 churches find out information about their community. Let us help your church reach out into your community. Churches helped through the Mapping Center: FBC Old Hickory at the Village FBC Hermitage Park Avenue Lincoya Hills Redeemer Antioch FBC Northwood Shelby Avenue Lakeview Hickory Hollow Eastland Westwood Charlotte Road FBC Pegram Resonate Crievewood Green Hill Parkway Church Nashville Mill Creek FBC Joelton Indian Lake Peninsula Refuge Church Westview The mapping center is a computer program that provides a variety of up -to-date information about neighborhoods, streets, and individuals living in our communities. The information provided by the mapping program can be very useful to churches as a tool to specialize and focus ministry. The NBA office provides and interprets reports for churches as a part of the NBA ministry. 31

Recreation Tammy Drolsum The Recreation Ministry of the Nashville Baptist Association helps churches establish, conduct, enlarge, and improve their recreation programs; plans and directs recreational activities for the association as a whole; and provides athletic activities for the association by assisting churches in the area of organized sports. Our goal is to provide opportunities for churches to engage their members and prospects in recreational experiences through which fellowship, lifestyle discipleship, and evangelism will take place. To accomplish these goals, we provide leagues for softball, volleyball, and basketball. We also offer monthly golf scrambles throughout the spring, summer, and fall. The year in review Coed Volleyball First place: Judson Baptist In the fall of 2015, 14 teams participated in the coed volleyball season. Teams played at Judson Baptist Church and Tulip Grove Baptist Church. Judson won first place in this year s championship, and Lighthouse Christian won second place. Second place: Lighthouse Christian First place: Judson Baptist Softball During the spring and summer, five churches participated in the NBA Coed Softball League. Judson Baptist Church was the champion for 2016, and Lakewood was the runner-up. Second place: Lakewood Baptist Golf We had seven golf tournaments, averaging 70 people per tournament, the participants ranged in age from 14 to 85 with approximately 17 different churches fielding teams. If you would like to participate in the NBA Recreation ministry or enter a team in one of the leagues, please contact Tammy Drolsum or the NBA office. (Call or tfdrolsum@.) 32

We have a new name! At our annual dinner on April 7, we unveiled a new name and logo for our ministry. Beginning April 8, CWJC of Middle TN will continue our transformational ministry under the name Begin Anew. We are excited and grateful that we have a fresh new face for our ministry. We work to help poverty in Middle Tennessee by providing people the chance to Begin Anew! As we transition to our new name, we will continue to do business as CWJC of Middle TN. Other exciting news for this year will include new ministry locations and expansion of alumni services. We appreciate your prayers as we seek to provide Hope for a Brighter Future at Begin Anew! behold, all things are become new 2 Corinthians 5:17 From Books to Baptism Latasha Reese enrolled with Begin Anew in March of this year. A single mother of three, her main goal is to be a role model for her kids. Although she talks to them often about the importance of education, she knows it s just as important to show them. She had enrolled in other programs but always seemed to allow life to get in the way before finishing. A friend in the program encouraged her to visit a class at Begin Anew. Latasha discovered right away that Begin Anew was what she needed: the support of tutors in a one-on-one or small group setting, classes in the evening, the option of childcare if her youngest son didn t want to stay with his older siblings, and Bible study. Latasha attends class on Mondays with energy and a sense of discovery. She is ready to conquer the math concept that escaped her the week before, and she s always excited about Bible study. Excited! She is no stranger to Christianity and had even been baptized at an early age. But it has always been life s curveballs that demand so much of her time time that has kept her away from growing spiritually. Latasha welcomes the hour on Monday nights to read and discuss the teachings in the Bible. What she appreciates even more is the version used in class if only she had a Bible at home she could understand. One evening after class, Latasha was given a New King James Bible. She s now armed with the best weapon to fight her battles. In May 2016, Latasha was baptized at Fairfield Baptist Church. She says she knew it wasn t required, but she longed to be re-cleansed as a statement of her love for Jesus Christ. Latasha is still on the journey to reaching her goal with Begin Anew. She has taken the Official Practice Test for HiSET (High School Equivalency) while conquering adversity as it comes. Armed with the reassurance of who God is in her life, she starts every day knowing that she can do all things through Christ who gives her strength Students Emotional Health 78% anxiety decrease 66% depression decrease Graduates Outcome 24% graduation rate 100% of graduates with increased self-sufficiency 34

Thom Thornton, Collegiate Minister The mission of the BCM at Vanderbilt Place is to share Christ with students, to disciple students to maturity, to involve students in service and missions, and to connect students to the local church. Students are our best resource to share Christ with the campus. BCM student leaders are trained in evangelism and encouraged to develop relationships with non-christians. Over the last few years, we have seen several students come to a personal relationship with Christ directly through the ministry of the BCM. As a ministry working with young adults, a great focus is placed on discipleship and evangelism. Students need to grow and mature in their faith and engage the community around them. Our Thursday night gathering, The POINT, is used to train and develop students in discipleship and evangelism while exposing them to leaders from local churches. Students are encouraged to be involved in service and ministry in the community, both through local churches and through local mission agencies. During the fall, students will go to Memphis TN as part of our Fall Mission Trip. In the spring, students will serve nationally and internationally as part of our Spring Break Mission opportunities. Please pray for our students as they actively share Christ on our campus. Pray for our student leaders as they grow in their personal faith as they lead our ministry. Pray for our partnership with the local church as we work together to bring Christ to the campus of Vanderbilt. Missions and Church Connection Spring Break Missions DC Last year, the BCM at Vanderbilt had a fall mission trip to Atlanta, GA and three spring break mission trips to Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, and Panama City Beach. The BCM had over 70 students involved in missions work last year. Fall Break Missions Atlanta The BCM continues to connect with several NBA churches. Church partnership and connecting students to a local church is foundational to the mission of the BCM. Last year, BCM worked with: Green Hills Mosaic FBC Nashville FBC Joelton Grace Community Clearview Judson Trinity Forest Hills Woodmont Brentwood Avenue South 36

Indonesia Partnership Clair and Ado Young Transforming Surfing Communities in Indonesia Can you imagine a beautiful beach lined with evergreen trees? The sun is shining bright in this tropical paradise. There are fisherman fishing, teenagers playing soccer, and families relaxing under bamboo umbrellas. The beach is a place where the community comes to relax and have fun. Yet when you start asking the people about Jesus, they have never heard His name. With the help of NBA, we are hoping we will see the light of Christ shining in the hearts of all the people groups that are located around these surfing communities. Christian Surfers Indonesia has seen God work in numerous ways this year. It has been an honor to partner with NBA to see more surfing communities come to know Christ. This year we have all been focusing on finding deeper intimacy in Christ. We have also been focusing on helping our leaders grow in their leadership and strategic development! We have seen 3 units of leaders step into a new leadership role. We have seen at least 10 people come to know Christ as their savior and start their journey in being Christ followers. We have seen more than a dozen people healed by the power of Jesus! NBA has funded several of our leadership team meetings and has made it possible for our leaders who are spread across three islands to meet face to face to encourage one another and make strategic decisions for our movement. We are looking forward to the breakthrough in the future that will be made possible through our partnership with NBA. 37
