THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Jesus appears in glory as the Son of God. The Epiphany season is bookende of God the Father proclaiming Jesus his Son. Before he suffered as man s s gave his Church a glimpse of the glory that he set aside to be our Savior. Se loves us! The God of Mt. Sinai, the Majestic Glory, became a man to suffer a just as Moses and the Prophets had foretold. It s good that we are here. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. 4 Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah. 5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him! 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them. Get up, he said. Don t be afraid. 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. 9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, Don t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead. 6 SERMON Matthew 17:1-9 PRAYER OF THE CHURCH Jesus Transfiguration Prepares Us for What s Next Pastor Nick Maglietto APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. We praise you, O Father, for the precious gift of your Son and for his glo transfiguration on the holy mountain. Give us the firm resolve to listen the eager readiness to believe his promises, and the joyful willingness to commandments. By the sign of Moses and Elijah, show us that blessed who die in faith, for they shall know the power of Christ s resurrection a changed from glory into glory. O God and Father, let your Holy Spirit find a dwelling in our poor bodies our weak, sinful lives into the radiance of goodness, purity, and righteo Transform our minds, our understanding, our judgments, yes, our whol reflect the mind of Christ. Take our sickness and pain, our disappointm despair, our sorrows and mourning, our pride and anger, our selfishnes hate and fear: take all these, O Father, and transform them by the heali Jesus into noble impulses, pure motives, kind thoughts, constructive de courage, and true faith. FAREWELL TO ALLELUIA Brothers and sisters in Christ, when we next gather for worship, it w Wednesday, the first day of Lent. On that day we will begin our sole the Savior s cross. While the joy of faith remains undiminished thro year, our rejoicing during Lent is muted and quiet. For centuries, th Christian churches have omitted their most jubilant songs during th including the word alleluia, which means, praise the Lord. Now for a time we say farewell to alleluia. We do this to prepare ou quieter days of Lent. The alleluias will return on Easter dawn as we our praise to the risen Lord. PRAYER M: O Lord God, our heavenly Father, pour out the Holy Spirit on your faithful people. Keep us strong in your grace and truth, protect and comfort us in all temptation, and bestow on us your saving peace, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 10 Pathways to Christ: Sisters in Christ, please join us for the 17 th Pathways to Christ Retreat on March at LaSure s Banquet Hall in Oshkosh. The 2017 theme is taken from Proverbs 14:30 A Heart at Peace Gives Life to the Body. On Friday night, we will begin the retreat with a Forgiveness Workshop: Conflict vs. Peace. On Saturday, Kenneth Kramer will share insights and tools from his book, A Heart at Peace: Biblical Strategies for Christians in Conflict, which equips readers to view conflict from a biblical perspective, providing the antidote for the deadly poison that conflict injects into our relationships. Come and find out how to address conflict head-on. Also, on Saturday, Amber Albee Swenson will continue our theme focusing on the need and healing effects of forgiveness. On Sunday, Pastor Leon Ehlert will share with us a Bible Study and then lead us in worship. Additional information along with registration forms are on our website pathwaystochrist.org.
