The members of St. John s believe that families should be encouraged to worship together. (Church, like much of life, needs to be taught to young children.) 8 EPISTLE LESSON 1 Corinthians 14:12b-20 Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that build up the church. 13 For this reason anyone who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret what he says. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind. 16 If you are praising God with your spirit, how can one who finds himself among those who do not understand say Amen to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying? 17 You may be giving thanks well enough, but the other man is not edified. 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19 But in the church, I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue. 20 Brothers, stop thinking like children. One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God, 2 he saw at the water s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch. 5 Simon answered, Master, we ve worked hard all night and haven t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets. 6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus knees and said, Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon s partners. 19 Announcements Sunday Morning Bible Class: As we continue to study the book, What in the World is Going On, we will be reviewing the Biblical view of the world. Mid-Week Bible Study: This week, we will be exploring God s blessing of government. Principal Call: Mr. Adam Glodowski has been called to be our new principal. Please remember him in your prayers as he deliberates his call to serve St. John s Baraboo or continue in his call at Trinity Kiel, WI. Help Needed: Childcare is looking for people to assist with the daily caretaking of children. If you or someone you know enjoys working with children ages 3 to 12, please consider helping our ministry grow. Call the childcare at for more info. Stewardship emphasis: We are having a special stewardship emphasis February 10 th through February 24 th. We will be asking for everyone to fill out time and talent sheets here at church and leave them at church. Everyone can do this even if your health means the only thing you can do is pray for our church. God s gracious ears and actions are far more important than anything we give in our time and efforts. We will be asking people if they would be willing to help our church committees to do their work. We will be having a pledge this year. We simply want to see where we are at financially. We ask that everyone participate. We cannot and will not require anyone to participate. We simply ask that you, anonymously if you wish, let us know what you would estimate your offerings to our church over the next year (Lord Willing!) from July 1, 2019 to June 31, This will help us with budgeting, with planning for our upcoming 150 th anniversary and other financial needs. Lenten Book & Toy Sale begins March 6. Donations of gently used book, DVDs and toys (no stuffed animals) will be appreciated. Please bring donations to the church library. 19

Pastor Kuske is still learning your names and he can t possibly know everyone who attended visually. Please also use your friendship registers to update us on your addresses, phone numbers, and s. Many members have dropped land lines and we no longer have a current phone number for you, Supporting Our Soldiers: Mary Martha Circle is collecting items to send to our WELS active duty military men and women now through April 8 th. There will be a donation box in the Narthex to donate items or you may give a monetary gift. Items to be donated are: sample-seize toiletries, wipes, Kleenex, toothbrushes, small notepads, crossword and sudoku books, pens, DVD movies, Ziploc bags, and individually wrapped snack foods. For any questions, call Mona Burton at Pathways to Christ Retreat: Ladies, the 19 th annual Pathways to Christ Retreat is March 8-10, 2019 at LaSure s Hall in Oshkosh, WI. This year s theme is I have learned the secret of being content from Philippians 4:12. Lutheran Military Support Group - Update: Izak (Ike) Jirik is a student in the PTSD course Pastor Paul C. Ziemer, National Civilian Chaplain to the Military / WELS Liaison to U.S. Armed Forces, is teaching. Ike is also a chaplain s assistant. He is in the Minnesota National Guard, which will deploy in October He reports that his superior officers are very impressed with our Spiritual Deployment Kit (SDK) and the God Our Refuge devotional book. As a result they want us to send them 150 SDKs and 300 of the new military devotional handbooks as soon as they are available. It is good to know that the quality of our publications is recognized by others. It surely should encourage us to pursue this project to its completion. It surely should encourage us to thank our Lord for the opportunity to bring his Word of peace to those who prepare for war. 20

21 WELS has been given the opportunity to take the gospel to the Hmong people living in the country of Vietnam. Not only has the Hmong Fellowship Church (HFC) asked WELS to teach and train its pastors in Lutheran doctrine and practice, but WELS has also been invited by the Vietnamese government to establish a theological training facility in Hanoi. On Dec. 1, 2018, WELS launched a special synod wide offering to support Hmong outreach in Vietnam. Through this opportunity, God s grace can be shared with the more than 100,000 members who make up the HFC and the 2 million Hmong living in Vietnam and the surrounding countries. The goal of the Grace Hmong outreach in Vietnam offering is to receive gifts totaling $2 million by June 30, 2019, to fund the land purchase, building construction, and the first two years of operational costs for the theological training facility in Hanoi. 22 For the past 35 years, Truth In Love Ministry has been reaching out to Mormons to assure them that they are Perfect in Christ and that they do not need to earn God s love. There is a special matching fund project to raise $15,000 for Truth in Love Ministry. The full $15,000 must be reached before the match is applied. This means that your gift can be doubled! This will significantly expand our reach to hundreds of thousands of Mormons. If you wish to contribute to this special project, please make your donation to Truth In Love by March 20 th and we will forward it so it can be applied to this limited time offer.
