1 Lions Tigers and Bears Jubilee 2000 Version Hosea 13:5 I knew thee in the wilderness, in the dry land. 6In their pastures, they filled themselves; they were satisfied, and their heart was exalted; for this reason they have forgotten me. 7Therefore I will be unto them as a lion; as a tiger in the way I will observe them: 8I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps and will rend the veil of their heart, and there I will devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them apart. These words are spoken to a people who had seen the goodness of God Miracles don t keep you Provision won t keep you Promotion won t keep you Healing won t keep you Preaching won t keep you Praise won t keep you Programmes won t keep you Attention won t keep you Sympathy won t keep you His grace will keep you

2 (1) The Trouble With Sin It separates It distorts It condemns He destroyed our sinful nature by punishing Jesus in our place. He came against sin like a lion a tiger and a bear. A lion is fierce A lion is bold How does a lion hunt? The Lion is afraid of no one? You cannot scare it off (A) Fierce like a Lion Hosea 13:7 Therefore I will be unto them as a lion

3 He came to confront the problem of sin. To annihilate the sin nature Mathew 27: 27Then the governor s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. Hail, king of the Jews! they said. 30They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him. God held nothing back when it came to punishing Jesus for our sins His fierce Judgment came against Jesus 1 Peter 2: 22 He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth. e 23When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the

4 cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. A tiger is forceful A tiger lies in waiting ready to pounce A Tiger prowls and stalks its victims A Tiger is not as fast as a lion because of its wait so it relies on its sheer power and strength. He overcomes by force and dominance (B) Forceful Like a tiger Hosea 13:7 as a tiger in the way I will observe them God s Sheer strength destroyed your sin nature when His anger overwhelmed His son John 19: 1Then Pilate had Jesus taken away and whipped. The whipping was full force nothing held back

5 The Soldier who whipped the guilty person had to do it with all his might, otherwise he would be killed. 40 Lashes must kill them so they would give them 39. Isaiah 53: 3He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. 4Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. God had to punish sin justly He could not goes easy on His son Sin had to be destroyed

6 Isaiah 50: 6 I gave My back to those who strike Me, And My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard; I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting. Mark 15:16 The soldiers led Jesusi into the courtyard of the palace (that is, the governor s headquarters)j and called out the whole guard. 17They dressed him in a purple robe, twisted some thorns into a victor s crown, and placed it on his head.k 18They began to greet him, Long live the king of the Jews! 19They kept hitting him on the head with a stick, spitting on him, kneeling in front of him, and worshiping him. 20When they had finished making fun of him, they stripped him of the purple robe, put his own clothes back on him, and led him away to crucify him. A bear is ferocious A bear whose pups have been stolen is relentless and ferocious. The Syrian bear is fiercer than the bears to which we are accustomed. Lion will give up if you manage to escape. He will search for something else to eat.

7 A Tiger will stork you for as long as he can but when if he thinks he will do better somewhere else he will walk away. If you have stolen a bears cubs there is no escape She will hunt you down with her last breath God s Judgment came to destroy your sin nature through punishing Jesus for your sins. Romans 6:10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. (C) Ferocious Like a bear Hosea 13:8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps 1 John 4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

8 Jesus bore our guilt and shame Our Heavenly father has never put guilt and shame upon you. He put it upon Jesus. Nothing is worse than the shame a father places on you. You are defined by your father. Jesus the darling of heaven was separated from The Farther. Rejected and alone. Isaiah 52: 14 Just as there were many who were appalled at him c his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness God would not give up until the price was paid Determination Just like a mother bear whose cubs have been taken he came after the sin nature

9 Psalm 102:10 because of your great wrath, for you have taken me up and thrown me aside. 11My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass. Galatians 3:13 (King James) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. He destroyed our sinful nature like a lion a tiger and a bear.
