1 Bible Snacks 5 THE HOLY SPIRIT There is confusion about who the HOLY SPIRIT is and what HE does; we hope that this study will help to clarify some of these doubts, so that you may continue to grow in the Spirit. 1) Who is the HOLY SPIRIT? The HOLY SPIRIT is part of the trinity. There are three persons but only one GOD. Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The HOLY SPIRIT is GOD Acts 5:3-4 But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God. The HOLY SPIRIT is JESUS 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2) The HOLY SPIRIT has emotions, His own will and intelligence Emotions Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. His Own Will Acts 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 3) Where is the HOLY SPIRIT? The HOLY SPIRIT lives in the believers 1 Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? THE HOLY SPIRIT is in our heart Galatians 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, Abba, Father! The HOLY SPIRIT comes to live in the believers when they received Christ Ephesians 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 4) At present what does the HOLY SPIRIT do? Convinces people about their sin John 16:8-9 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me; He reveals the Scriptures John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 3 He gives us the power to speak of GOD Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. The HOLY SPIRIT helps us to pray Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. The HOLY SPIRIT reminds us that we are free in Christ 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 5) How can one be filled with the HOLY SPIRIT? By faith Romans 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Although we have never seen the HOLY SPIRIT we have faith that HE is in us. The word of GOD gives us knowledge that HE dwells in us. 1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 4 Meditating on the Bible Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Praying Ephesians 6:18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints Having a humble attitude in His presence Ephesians 4:2-3 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 1 Peter 5:5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble. 6) Results of being filled with the Holy Spirit The manifestation of His fruit in our life shows nine qualities of His character Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. A life of service and obedience testifying of JESUS Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
