18 PILLARS OF PRAYER A PROPHETIC REVELATION. Introduction Pastor Warren Lyons. Over a number of years of being involved in prayer ministries I have been privileged to pray for our government and for all those that hold authority over us, according to the Bible Scripture found in Paul s first Epistle to Timothy. Paul begins to remind us all of the importance of supplications, prayers and intercessions and the need to apply this key scripture to our own Nation; in particular Members of Parliament and their families, who also carry much of the unseen burden. We also recognize and acknowledge those who hold key administrative and leadership positions in local government, such as mayors, council members, supportive key authorities in the community such as the Department of Justice, Social Services, Education and Health to name just a few that are so much part of our every day lives in our local communities, to the wider spectrum of supporting services and community structures that are in place to maintain a healthy and a prosperous society. The wisdom from above that is needed daily for quality decision making for the practical function and application of the responsibility in our regions, communities, towns and the cities we live in, needs attentive prayer and intercession by committed prayer persons and ministries that are willing to give time and energy for the wellbeing of our leaders and the people of Aotearoa New Zealand. 1 TIMOTHY CHAPTER 2.1-6: (KJV) 1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and the giving of thanks, be made for all men: 2 For kings and for all that are in authority: that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and come into the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time

This introductory prayer is followed by the Prophetic Revelation, Hear What The Spirit Is Saying and Righteousness Exalts a Nation. The main teaching of the 18 Pillars of Society from Brian Caughley follows. Brian is the Founder and Director of Intercessors for New Zealand, and his inspirational teaching on the 18 Pillars of Prayer presented as the 18 Pillars of Society will further bring blessing to our Nation as we become doers of the Word and not only hearers

Prayer Heavenly Father, We praise and thank you for who you are the Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and Earth and all the universe. You created man in your image and gave him authority to look after the world you have created. We thank you Lord for your precious word and how you have revealed yourself in your Son Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. Father, how we thank you for the beautiful country of Aotearoa. We see the evil influences that are trying to destroy all that is good in your sight in our land. We ask that this nation will stand for Righteousness and Truth and Justice and all the 18 Pillars of Society which form the strength and foundation of a blessed and peaceful nation. You are calling your people to intercede and pray for the 18 principles of a righteous nation. Father, I pray firstly for the leaders and rulers of New Zealand. Thank you for their commitment and the important work they do. Bless them and their families and guide and help them in all their decisions. Secondly, I pray for our Maori leaders and all of them who love you. Help them to rise up and pray for this nation. May they do it on the Marae, and in their homes. May there be a wonderful sense of unity, just as Jesus said My Father and I are one. So may all your people, Maori and Pakeha have the mind of Christ. As your word declares in II Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. This is our prayer in Jesus wonderful name. Amen - 7 -

Prophetic Revelation On a particular visit to Parliament Buildings on June 18 th 2003 to pray for the Government, and while I was spending time meditating in prayer sitting on a visitor bench seat in the beautiful grounds looking towards Parliament Buildings, I became sharply aware of the very large physical pillars in the construction and design of the Central Building and the strength each pillar gave to the building. The grace of God began to reveal to me the importance of pillars that are not only physical but spiritual for the Nation of Aotearoa New Zealand. The visible 18 Pillars that hold Parliament up in the front of the building were also being revealed at that time by the Holy Spirit to help create an understanding as Spiritual Pillars, as Pillars of Prayer, as standards for a strong Nation, pillars of strength and endurance for our society. These 18 Pillars make up part of a number of pillars in the construction of the Central Parliament Building. The 18 Pillars of Prayer revelation are placed in a slightly different order in the teaching given in this booklet than was originally received by the writer. The 8 Spiritual Pillars of Entrance according to the revelation are from right to left on the front row looking towards Parliament Buildings (The Pillar of Righteousness was the first Pillar the Lord revealed then the other designated pillars followed.) The Pillar of Righteousness seemed to be so important to the Lord and looked like a pillar targeted as in a war zone. The Pillar had come under strong attack from many evil influences and powers designed to undermine and destroy God s standards of righteousness, meaning His right ways for our Nation but even under many pressures this front right hand corner pillar, The Pillar of Righteousness stood strong and unmoveable, for only in righteousness can a Nation be exalted. Righteousness brings light and life to the people, in contrast unrighteousness brings a spirit of darkness, decay and death to a Nation. The choice is before us all. Directly behind the front four Pillars stand the back four Pillars. The Pillar of Truth is the left hand corner Pillar and stands behind The Pillar of Government. The Pillar of Prayer stands at the doorway behind the Royal Pillar, Authority stands on the other side of the doorway, as authority rules in humility and serves all for the common good, and sits directly behind the Pillar of Justice. The Pillar of Welfare represents all the people and stands beside the Pillar of Authority, and is protected in front by the Pillar of Righteousness. O Truth O Prayer O Authority O Welfare O Government O Royal O Justice O Righteousness (the 8 Pillars of Entrance seen looking up from the grounds to the top of the steps) - 8 -

The teaching however on the principles of the 18 Pillars of Society remains as a strong foundational scriptural bases of truth for our Nation and the Nations of the earth to those that are willing to take up the challenge of prayer according to the Word of God which holds highest pre-eminence. HEAR WHAT THE SPIRIT IS SAYING The following words and teaching gives us all an understanding on what our Heavenly Father revealed with the 18 Pillars of Prayer and to hear what the Spirit of God is saying to the Nation. As we pray for our society according to the standard of scripture, praying for and with the honouring of all those in authority over us, which is God s prerequisite for revival in our land, by our obedience to the mind of the Spirit of God and his Word, then the empowering authority of the Kingdom of God which is in righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, shall be released with a revival wave that will cover our Nation and our Nation will be a lighthouse to the nations of the earth. RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTS A NATION When the Righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. (Proverbs 29:2) As you read the following pages of this booklet, I trust each reader will be challenged to consider making a fresh commitment to pray and intercede for our Nation against the infiltration of ungodly spiritual influences and the unruly spiritual powers that divide and destroy our Nation from its Godly roots, by upholding in prayer the Pillars of Society. The inheritance that God has in store for a righteous people is a Nation of quietness, peace and godliness, living in honesty with one another, serving God and loving one another in Christ. This booklet unfolds the Pillars of Society that by committed prayer a righteous Nation will emerge with Honour and Dignity to all citizens. The ungodly influences and spiritual powers must be dealt with in the Nation with the love of God, but in truth that would challenge the hearts of the people, bringing in change, healing and restoration, giving to the next generation a legacy for a future and a hope. This is our responsibility and commission to dedicate ourselves to effectual fervent prayer. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. (Proverbs 14:34) - 9 -

HE SHALL COME AS A STRONG DELIVERER A prophetic word to the Nation - September 1993 Pastor Warren Lyons Sing O Heavens and be joyful O Earth, and break forth into singing O Mountains, for the Lord has comforted his people, and will have mercy on his afflicted ones; for many are the afflictions of the righteous. For I have heard the cry of the poor and needy, and declare to this Nation My Righteousness. For with my own zeal I will accomplish that which I have purposed to do, as one that is faithful and true, for my throne is established in Righteousness and Justice, and they that call upon the name of the Lord shall be delivered, for the righteous shall run in and be safe. For I the Lord speaketh righteousness and declare things that are right. So prophesy to the North, to the South, to the East, and to the West. Proclaim My Righteousness. For righteousness exalts a nation, and the Son of Righteousness shall arise with healing in his wings, for I lead in the paths of righteousness in the midst of the paths of judgment. Therefore keep my Word and follow after charity, and as you stand in My Righteousness, mercy shall be triumphant and the chains of sin and oppression that bind this nation shall be broken and the shout of victory shall be heard. For the Lord shall comfort His people and he shall rejoice over them with singing. Hallelujah. SCRIPTURE REFERENCES AND STUDY. OLD TESTAMENT. Jer. 23: 5-6. Mal. 4:2-6. Zeph. 2:3. Hos. 14:9. The above prophetic word was previously given in 1993 following a visit to pray for parliament with the prophecy quickened again at the time of the revelation of the 18 Pillars of Prayer. This word of encouragement and hope for our Nation is God s divine will and purpose for all to receive of his goodness and mercy and not His judgment, for judgment is laid up for the ungodly. To those that are willing to obey His Word and stand for righteousness and follow after charity, for even unto them shall be given peace and fullness of joy unto the singing of praise to the one that has called us out of darkness into his marvelous light

18 Pillars of Society The Church [is]... the pillar and bulwark of the Truth 1 Timothy 3:15 Righteousness and Justice are the foundation of His throne Psalm 97:2 In 2003, Warren Lyons, of Call to Prayer Ministries, was visiting Wellington and sat looking at the front of our Parliament Buildings. On the left, at the top of the steps and leading into the main entrance, there are four pillars with four more pillars directly behind them. To the right there are a further eight pillars in a single line, and on the right-hand corner of the building there are another two pillars: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O As he looked at these pillars he felt that the Lord showed him that these 18 pillars stand for 18 major principles which underlie a strong, Godly nation and that we need to intercede for these 18 principles. In Moses time, God guided and protected His people as they came out of Egypt through the wilderness, by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night so that they could travel even at night and escape the Egyptian army (Exodus 13:21-22). When the Egyptians pursued the Israelites, the angel of the Lord moved the cloudy fiery pillar from before them and placed it behind them as a protection against the Egyptians (Exodus 14:19, 20, 24). Thus we see that the pillars both guided and protected God s people. The Pillar of Truth is one such pillar - it guides and protects us. 1.THE PILLAR OF TRUTH See Matthew 4:4; John 8:32; 14:6; 17:17; Psalm 119:105; 1 Timothy 3: Pray that people will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as the Way, the Truth and the Life. Pray that people will come to realise that the Bible, the Word of God, is true. Pray that people will be convicted of deception, corruption and lies. Pray that in our Courts, especially, the truth will be revealed that people who are guilty will (preferably) confess their guilt or at least will be found guilty, and that those who are innocent will be found innocent. It is, of course, unjust when guilty people are not, or cannot, be convicted, and

innocent people are wrongly sentenced. In some court cases millions of dollars and sometimes years are spent trying to find out the truth because people are lying to protect themselves or their friends. Pray for a revelation of the truth. Pray for the media, that truth will always be far more important than scandal, gossip, suggestive accusations, cover-ups, etc. Pray that truth will begin in the home that parents will teach their children to speak the truth and show them by being good examples of people who tell the truth. 2.THE PILLAR OF JUSTICE The Pillar of Justice (Psalm 89:14; Isaiah 58:6-7; Micah 6:8) stands behind the Pillar of Truth, because there can be no true justice where there is no truth. Please pray for: Justice in our land. This begins with our Members of Parliament and those who draft and write our laws (the lawmakers ) please pray for them and for laws which are just and right. Justice in the courts. Pray for judges and juries who must make decisions based on what they hear. Pray that justice will be done that the innocent will be found to be innocent and the guilty will be found to be guilty. Pray for just decisions to be made in the sentencing of those who are guilty. Justice for the poor and those who are wrongfully discriminated against in our society. Justice in the workplace, for both employers and employees. That there will not be unfair discrimination and prejudice. Note: This does not mean that we don t discriminate between good and evil! Some people who practice evil may well feel discriminated against! 3.THE PILLAR OF RIGHTEOUSNESS The Bible has a lot to say about righteousness (e.g., Psalm 15:2; 85:10; 89:14; 97:2; Jeremiah 23:5-6; Hebrews 1:9). Righteousness involves right living right, not by human standards, but by God s standards. Righteousness should be very evident in both the Church as a whole and in individual Christian s lives. Of course we do not always do what is right

because we all sin at times, but churches should be unique communities of people who seek to live by God s standards, and seek to deal with sin quickly when it does occur. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34), so a nation will know blessing to the degree to which its people seek to live rightly, and the laws of the land uphold righteousness. Please pray: That Christians will see the importance of living righteous lives not self-righteous, but living by the power of God and exhibiting Godly Christian character and witness. That churches will see the importance of teaching and upholding righteousness before their people as the way which is pleasing to God, which brings blessing to the people, and is a powerful witness in the community. That the laws of our country will be righteous laws, in accordance with God s principles, not man s. That unrighteous laws will be overturned. That people will reject unrighteousness. That those things which are good and right and proper in God s eyes will be upheld as the standards in our communities and that unrighteousness will be dealt with. 4.THE PILLAR OF AUTHORITY We have looked at the Pillar of Truth which stands before the Pillar of Justice; and the Pillar of Righteousness which stands before the Pillar of Authority. All authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:18). All true authority is delegated by Him to righteous leaders. Romans 13:1-7 speaks of our relationship towards God-ordained authority: leaders who are not a threat to the Godly but to the ungodly. When the unrighteous try to force Christians to do what God forbids, or to forbid what God commands, then our obedience is to God rather than man (Acts 4:19; 5:29). The main problem in most of our societies today is that the laws of the land are far too permissive, allowing things that God forbids. However, that should not be a problem to Christians, because we follow God s Word, not man s. At least we are not forced to do what God forbids

Please pray: For Godly leadership in our nation who will have God s authority and blessing on them. That people will see the need to obey God rather than men, when these are in conflict. That Christians will be exemplary in upholding and obeying that which is good and right. That people will encourage their leaders to uphold what is righteous (Prov. 29:2). That people will recognise that God s ways are right and that obedience to them will bring the greatest blessing to any country. First of all, I urge that intercessions be made for all who are in authority, so that we may lead quiet and peaceful lives with all Godliness and dignity 1 Timothy 2:1-2 So far we have looked at the first four Pillars in our society: Truth, Justice, Righteousness and Authority. Now we come to the next four: Government, Welfare, Royal and Prayer. (The pillars below are set in the correct revelation order and differ in presentation only. The teaching having merit in God s word.) O Truth O Prayer O Authority O Welfare O Government O Royal O Justice O Righteousness Pillars support the superstructure and are absolutely essential to the building and its covering. Pillars need to stand firmly on the Rock foundation or else they may lean, crack and fall, and the building will collapse. 5.THE PILLAR OF GOVERNMENT Psalm 103:19; Isaiah 9:6-7; Romans 13:1-7; 1 Timothy 2:1-4; 1 Peter 2: Good Government is another one of the pillars of a good, strong society. The verses above all imply good government as distinct from a government in which evil people are in control. Praise God we live in a society where, in spite of all its faults and short-comings, our government is basically a good, democratic government. Ultimately, the best government is founded on God s government and principles, but because we live in a fallen, human

world and most of our leaders are not Christians, our government is not perfect. Please pray for: Those who are over us, in positions of leadership and government. That God will raise up good and righteous leaders who will fulfil His purposes for our country. That bad leadership will be changed or removed. That Christians will pray for, and support, their leaders in everything good that they seek to do. That Christians will be given wisdom and authority in speaking against those things which are wrong. That Christians will be good, law-abiding citizens who do not resist the right use of authority. 6.THE PILLAR OF WELFARE Good Government stands before Welfare, because the purpose of good government is the welfare of the people. Government does not exist to serve itself or to rule over people for the sake of ruling it is there to serve the people, to look after their welfare, and to help bring about a good, ordered, decent society: so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, in all Godliness and dignity (1 Timothy 2:1-3). These two pillars, good government and welfare, are very important. An interesting thought comes out of the story of Samson and the two pillars (Judges 16:23-30). When the strong man destroyed the pillars, the whole house collapsed, and it destroyed those people who were under its covering! Also see Jeremiah 29:7; 38:4; Nehemiah 1:2-4; 2:10. Pray for the welfare of the town, city or district in which you live. Please pray for the welfare of all New Zealand s citizens and visitors. Pray especially for those who are disadvantaged by poverty, sickness, disability, poor upbringing, unemployment, etc. Our welfare includes body, soul and spirit. Pray for the spiritual welfare, through salvation, of those people who do not yet know the Lord. Pray for God s protection over us, morally, spiritually, from natural disasters, and attacks of the enemy (both spiritually and physically). Let us also remember to give thanks for, and pray for, all those people who risk their lives for the welfare of people in need: for those people

associated with the Fire, Ambulance and Police services, Civil Defence and other rescue workers such as lifeguards, search and rescue, etc. 7.THE ROYAL PILLAR At the top of the steps leading into Parliament, on the right hand side at the front is The Royal Pillar. The Royal Pillar speaks of the Lord Jesus Christ and His sovereignty over all things (see Psalm 2). Also see Isaiah 32:1; Daniel 4:2-3; John 18:36-37; 19:19-22; 1 Timothy 1:17; 1 Peter 2:9 and Revelation 19:16. This pillar is the front, right hand corner pillar of the group of 8 pillars which support the superstructure over the entrance to Parliament: Please pray that the Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, will be honoured in our land. His Name is above every Name may it be so in practice too! Pray that people will realise the sacredness of His Name and will learn not to blaspheme. Pray that Christians will exalt the Lord and lift His Name high. Pray that Kings and Queens, Presidents and Prime Ministers will come to recognise Jesus supreme authority, His Royalty, His ultimate Kingship over all the kingdoms of the earth. Pray that people will come to see that all true authority and sovereignty are derived from Him, and that the further we depart from Him and His ways, the greater the detriment to our society. 8.THE PILLAR OF PRAYER 2 Chronicles 7:12-18; Psalm 65:2; 1 Timothy 2:1-6; James 5:16. The Pillar of Prayer stands directly behind the Royal Pillar which signifies Jesus Christ the King and Lord of all. The Pillar of Prayer can only stand as it draws its strength and sustenance from the Royal Pillar, because the Prayer Pillar owes its entire existence, strength and success to the Royal Pillar, King Jesus. The Prayer Pillar will come under extreme pressure and strain, and would crumble if it was not for the fact that it looks towards the Royal Pillar Jesus Himself. The Prayer Pillar is strengthened, and the pressure or weight lifted, as we keep our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith

The placement of the Prayer Pillar is also protective because, being behind the Royal Pillar, it looks straight towards the Royal Pillar. Let us make sure we keep our eyes on Him and let Him take the pressure and strain! Pray that God will raise up an army of intercessors in our country. Pray that intercessors will keep their eyes on the Lord; stand strong in His strength, and not try to stand or pray in their own strength. Pray that our prayers will be fervent, effective and will prevail. Pray that the Pillar of Prayer will support and uplift all that which is good. Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the Church Wives, be subject to your husbands as you are to the Lord Children, obey your parents for this is right see Ephesians 5:21 to 6:4 So far we have looked at the first eight Pillars in our society (two rows of four): Truth, Justice, Righteousness, Authority, Government, Welfare, Royal and Prayer. Now we look at the next eight which are in a single row, to the right of the first eight. 9.THE PILLAR OF THE FAMILY Originally God created a man and a woman to live together in a committed union for their mutual support, and to bring forth children who would be nurtured in a family which expressed harmony and love one to the other. Tragically this situation is often not seen in society today. Sexual immorality and perversion, violence, abuse, selfishness, divorce, etc., have taken a very heavy toll on God s desire for families, in which a husband and wife commit themselves to a lifelong union, to love one another and support one another, for better or for worse, whether richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. God s desire for children to be nurtured and trained in a loving, supportive environment by their father and their mother is also often sadly lacking in much of society today. Every attack on the family is an attack on society as a whole, for societies will only be as healthy as the families from which they are built. Please pray for families throughout our country that the very best role models for good families will be upheld and encouraged. Pray for all those people who suffer in various ways from ungodly relationships and dysfunctional families

Pray that all forms of immorality, illicit drug use and violence, all of which are so destructive to the family, will decline and people will turn away from these evils. Pray that Government, and society as a whole, will do everything possible to encourage and support good, healthy marriages and families. Pray against the many destructive influences on families, which are in our land today. 10.THE PILLAR OF FATHERHOOD God the Father is our supreme example of fatherhood. He is a Father who loves, cares, provides, guides, disciplines, teaches and corrects us. He is also our Protector and Leader. Tragically, in today s world, especially in the Western world where ungodly values abound, many children are denied the right of a human father like that. The tragedy of fornication, adultery, divorce, de facto relationships, etc., is that children are frequently left without a father to love, care, provide, guide, discipline, teach, correct, protect and lead them. Others have suffered at the hands of abusive fathers and find it very hard to relate to God as a loving Heavenly Father. Mothers may do all they can, but God s perfect and original intention is that all children be brought up by their father and mother, together. In some cases, fathers who do love and care for their children are denied the right of access, or have very infrequent access to their children. Please pray: For a restoration of the Godly principles and example of fatherhood. For all children who, for whatever reason, have been deprived of a loving relationship with their fathers. For fathers who have been wrongly deprived of access to their children. For boys who desperately need a good role-model father. That the special needs of fatherless children will be met. That the hearts of the fathers will be restored to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers (Malachi 4:5-6). For all mothers who are struggling to bring up their children without the children s father. For repentance by all those people whose sins have led to the fatherless generation, including the abdication by some fathers of their responsibilities as fathers

For Christian men s organisations, such as Promise Keepers, who seek to uphold fatherhood and encourage men to be the fathers God intended them to be. That fathers will exercise their authority in the home in a Godly way loving their wives and families as Christ loves the Church and laid down His life for her. That Christian fathers and families, especially, will be Godly examples in the community of God s desire for the home and family. 11.THE PILLAR OF CHILDREN Children are a heritage from the Lord (Psalm 127:3-5) Let the little children come to Me... (Mark 10:13-16) If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in Me (Matt. 18:1-7) In the light of the above Scriptures we see how guilty we are as a society for the multitude of ways in which our children are abused, led astray, deceived and not cared for in the way God intends. Immorality, abortion, illegitimacy, sexual confusion brought about by immoral and perverted behaviour, drugs, violence; physical, mental and sexual abuse are just some of the ways our children suffer. Yet our children are a gift from God, the future generation, who should be loved, cared for, nurtured, trained and disciplined so that they grow up to be the men and women of the future as God intended. How much God must grieve at the ways we are destroying them physically, morally and spiritually. The life of a child has great potential for good and for evil pray that it will be for good! Please pray concerning the many causes of the above problems liberal laws which destroy legitimate boundaries around people s behaviour; bad parental example; a permissive society that doesn t care; and so on. Please pray for repentance to fall on our nation in a way which convicts us of our evil behaviour and turns us back to God s ways. Pray for all those people, churches and organisations seeking to support our children and guide them in right ways. Pray that parents, teachers and society as a whole will uphold those things which are good and Godly, and refuse those things which are evil and corrupt

It is time to cry out to God for our children, that He will have mercy on them, save them and deliver them out of the hands of the evil one, and evil influences. 12.THE PILLAR OF YOUTH See Jeremiah 1:4-10; 1 Timothy 4:12 and Matthew 18:6-7. Youth today face many pressures and temptations from peers and from a society which, as a whole, is very lax morally. Drugs and alcohol abound. Some youth virtually live on the streets; some have little or no parental care and love. Youth suicide is a disturbing problem. Materialism has gripped many young people s lives and other gods of money, careers, sport and possessions have taken the place which God should have in their lives. Because of rapidly declining moral standards we are soon going to end up with major sexual confusion amongst our youth young people not knowing whether they are supposed to be heterosexual, homosexual, bi-sexual, transsexual; whether fornication, adultery, de facto and multiple relationships, prostitution, abortion are OK or what. Attempts to remain pure are almost doomed to failure. We have a generation which has huge potential, but who are lost young people with (often) lots of money but little true love, discipline, guidance, faith in God or even a sense of their need for God. Please pray: For a major move of God s Spirit amongst the youth of our country, bringing many to salvation and the baptism in the Holy Spirit. For young people with great faith in God, strong in discipline and a determination not to compromise. For strong peer support for living a Godly life. For Christian youth groups and their leaders: in churches, Christian organisations such as Youth for Christ, students Christian Fellowships, etc. For all groups, especially Christian groups, working with young people at risk. For groups such as Drug Arm and others who are reaching out to street kids. That Christian youth will realise their potential and calling in God

13.THE PILLAR OF THE ELDERS Leviticus 19:32; Proverbs 17:6; 23:22; Ephesians 6:1-3; 1 Timothy 5:1-8. By the elders, we do not simply mean the elders in the Church, but all those older men and women whose wisdom, skills, knowledge, learning and life experiences we need to listen to and learn from. Please pray that: We will learn from the wisdom and experience of our elders. We will respect, honour, love and support our elderly even though there may be some personal cost in doing so. Pray for the elderly who are lonely as the years go by they see their friends and loved ones (especially a spouse) leave this world and they are left behind. Pray that even in the later years of life, many will make their peace with God and find salvation and hope beyond this life, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Pray against the lie that I am too old to change now, concerning their relationship with the Lord; pray that they will be prepared to meet their Maker and Judge with faith and salvation, not unbelief. Pray that even though they may get weaker in body and mind, that they will grow stronger in spirit and in their love for God. Pray against the subtle pressures of euthanasia. Pray for those who have been rejected or neglected by their families. Pray for your elderly friends and family. Wisdom has built her house. She has hewn out her seven [divine] pillars. - Proverbs 9:1 14.THE PILLAR OF EDUCATION Education is a very powerful influence in people s lives, especially young people. Proverbs 22:6 says Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. Today, our secular world is quite often at variance with Godly principles. Philippians 4:8-9 encourages us to think about, learn and practice those things which are true, honourable, just, pure, pleasing [to God], commendable, excellent and worthy of praise. How far we have fallen from these virtues!

Please pray for: Christian education: Christian-based schools, Colleges, Bible Schools and Bible training places. A strong Christian influence in education, at all levels. Organisations like Maxim Institute, and others, which encourage high quality education. Godly parents, school teachers, Boards of Trustees members, people in the Ministry of Education. Teaching that is true, pure, and consistent with God s ways. Against all evil influences: all those things which undermine truth, good morals, unselfishness, etc. Children to discern right from wrong, good from evil, truth from error, and that they will, by God s grace, reject what is wrong and follow after what is right. A Godly Christian influence in schools through Christian teachers, students and Christian groups. People who can clearly present the Christian worldview and Christian ethics in a way which will speak into many people s lives and persuade them of the importance of following God s ways. Strong Christian leadership at all levels of society, including strong Christian leaders who will speak into their own racial groups. 15.THE PILLAR OF RECREATION The purpose of recreation is to re-create to renew and refresh us. Without rest and recreation the stresses of life will cause us to be worn out or to burn out. We need recreation to refresh us body, soul and spirit. This is why God has told us to rest, just as He rested after His creation (Gen. 2:1-3. also see Heb. 3:7 to 4:11). This is why God told us to Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy (Ex. 20:8-11). The Sabbath day is the day of rest; one day each week. Recreation and holidays are a vital part of our renewal, body, soul and spirit. Jesus even had to tell His disciples to Come away and rest a while because they were being worn out by ministry (Mark 6:30-32). Please pray: That in these days of high stress and long hours of work, people will Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy set it aside for refreshment and relaxation

That sport (which is one form of recreation ) will not become a god in itself. That sport, which was intended for pleasure but which has become so highly competitive and commercialised, will be used for recreation and not merely competition and commercial purposes. That in our times of recreation we will enjoy God s creation, remember our Creator, and reflect on His goodness and blessings to us. That we will come aside and rest a while whenever God tells us to! 16.THE PILLAR OF CULTURE There are good and bad things in every culture, so as Christians we need discernment to know what is good and Godly, and what is not. Ultimately, we test all things by the Word of God. We should not fear the unknown in other cultures, but learn and discern! Christians should be multicultural in the sense of accepting all that is good in every culture. Racism has no place in the Christian life. The Bible tells us that God sets the boundaries for all countries and cultures (Acts 17:26); that there will be people from every race in Heaven (Rev. 7:9-10) and that all believers, of whatever race, culture or country are one family in Him (Gal. 3:28; Eph. 3:14-15; Col. 3:11). Please pray that Christians will: Be given discernment as to what is good in a culture, and embrace that; and what is displeasing to God and not have any part in that. Support and encourage everything that is good in every culture. Not be racist. Embrace and enjoy all that is good, and use what is good to glorify God. Renounce all that is evil, especially idolatry, witchcraft, animism and atheism; whatever is demonic; and avoid spiritual syncretism with false religions. Have the discernment to see and expose what is wrong in our own culture. (We often don t see what is wrong in our own culture because we are so familiar with it!) 17.THE PILLAR OF HONOUR We have looked at the eight pillars at the top of the steps leading into our Parliament buildings (two rows of four pillars). We have looked at the single row of eight pillars to the right of them. Now we come to the last two pillars

which stand separate, on the right hand side of the front of the building. These stand for the Pillars of Honour and Dignity for everyone. We are called to respect all human life, from conception to death. We are not to despise people, no matter who they are or what they have done. In particular, we are told to honour the following people; let us both honour and pray for them: Our parents (Ex. 20:12 and at least 8 other references!) Our wives (1 Pet. 3:7) and husbands (Eph. 5:22; 1 Pet. 3:1) Widows those in special need of care, provision and protection (1 Tim. 5:3) Our leaders and rulers (1 Pet. 2:17) Our elders (Lev. 19:32; 1 Tim. 5:17) Everyone (1 Pet. 2:17) God (John 5:23; 1 Tim. 1:17) Pray too that our honouring of people and the Lord will be genuine, not just lip-service (see Matthew 15:8) and that we will give honour to those to whom honour is due (Rom. 13:7). 18.THE PILLAR OF DIGNITY Like the Pillar of Honour, the Pillar of Dignity signifies dignity for everyone. Our dignity as human beings derives from us being created in the image and likeness of God, with an eternal spirit which is accountable to Him (Gen. 1:27; 5:1-2). People are to be treated with dignity, respect and honour, not down-trodden, looked down upon, despised, suppressed or enslaved. Even those who have done wrong and do not deserve dignity and honour need to be treated with respect and dignity, and in a way which will help bring them to a place of repentance, restitution and reconciliation with those they have wronged or with society as a whole. Please especially pray for the dignity of the following people: The elderly and infirm; handicapped, poor, sick (mentally and physically), people of all races (especially minorities), people who are addicted (to drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc), criminals. Pray that the self-esteem, self-worth and confidence of these people will be restored where necessary

Pray for deliverance from depression and condemnation (by repentance, if necessary). Pray that people will try to help and support those in need, rather than ignore or add to their low estate. Pray that we will lead a quiet and peaceable life in all Godliness and dignity (1 Tim. 2:2). Pray for Honour and Dignity for all people, of all ages, all social status and all races. Pray that people will come into a place of Honour and Dignity in Christ, a place of esteem and divine acceptance through faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, our Lord and Saviour: Accepted in the Beloved (Eph. 1:6). Jesus said If you conquer (overcome) I will make you a pillar in the Temple of My God and you will never go out of it. (Revelation 3:12) PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND FAITH. Heavenly Father we give thanks to you for the teaching on the 18 Pillars of our Society. We ask for your grace to be with us in the task of praying for our nation, and cause us to love and accept one another according to your Word. We earnestly pray for your Kingdom to come to Aotearoa New Zealand and the blessing of your divine will that you have in store for this Nation, that we may receive from heaven as we dedicate this Nation to seek your face in prayer unto righteousness according to your Word. Amen GOD DEFEND NEW ZEALAND As a people in the nation we name our God in our very own National Anthem as our defender and to defend this Nation of Aotearoa New Zealand. This is also from the heart of God to us. The Scripture in Exodus Chapter 20:1-6 says that we are to have no other gods before him as he is a jealous God. If God truly would defend us and protect and bless this nation we need to put away foreign gods and uphold His name over Aotearoa New Zealand, and then we can ask him rightfully to defend our Nation, for the God we serve according to Scripture is the God of Israel who is the Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
