1 ANZAC DAY St Heliers Commemorative Service 25 April 2018, am St Heliers War Memorial, Tamaki Drive On this day we honour the service personnel who fought at Gallipoli and in other conflicts in which New Zealand has been involved. Lest we forget In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. In Flanders Fields -John McRae, 3 May

2 ORDER OF SERVICE Serving and Returned Services personnel, Scouts, Guides, Young Mariners and students from local schools assemble at Vellenoweth Green and led by the Parade Commander, Lt Cdr. (rtd.) Nick Brewer, will parade along Tamaki Drive and halt and re-assemble at the St Heliers War Memorial. Personnel from the Training Ship Achilles form the Colour guard at the War Memorial. The hymns will be lead by Claire Hood. WELCOME The Service will begin at a.m. At the commencement of the Service a poppy will be placed on the commemorative Cross for the Fallen in the War Memorial garden. OPENING PRAYER Rev. Pauline Stewart, Minister, St Heliers Presbyterian Church. 2

3 HYMN I VOW TO THEE MY COUNTRY (ALL) V1. I vow to Thee, my country, All earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. V2. And there s another country, I ve heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know. We may not count her armies, we may not see her king Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace. READINGS Kate Schellekens, Head Girl, Selwyn College, will read an extract from a letter written at Gallipoli 1915; Ted Dobbs, a Prefect, Sacred Heart College, will read an extract from a letter written at the Somme The Sir George Grey Special Collections, Auckland Libraries Rev. Matt Griffiths, St Philip s Anglican Parish. 3
