3 December 21, 2014 St. Brigid Church, Meadville, PA Page Three Sunday, Dec. 21st, 2014, our brothers and sisters representing the Christian Catholic Families of Bethlehem will be selling Crucifixes, religious art work, and rosaries- all made of olive wood which is native to Israel and Bethlehem. Since tourism has greatly depleted, Christian families in the holy land, who depend on tourists, have been greatly affected. Sale of these goods will help them very much and also give you the opportunity to have something authentic from the holy land. Please browse and buy some articles. It is for a good cause and also a help to your personal devotion. See Website: CHRISTMASTIDE LITURGY AT ST. 4 Page Four St. Brigid Church, Meadville, Pennsylvania December 21, 2014 Merry Christmas! PASTOR S CORNER Over the years you may have heard phrases like Keep Christ in Christmas or Remember the Reason for the Season. In our culture today giving gifts, parties, and visiting family can take us away from the purpose for the celebrations in the first place: giving praise to God for the birth of Jesus of Nazareth the incarnation of God. Why is this moment, second only to the resurrection, have such a high honor in Christianity? It is because not just any person was born, but the Lord and Savior of the world. God made man fully divine, fully human. Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on Cross. (Philippians 2:6-8) God, to give us an unmerited gift of grace, emptied himself into the very experience of being human. He felt just like you and I feel. He wept just like we cry. He experienced our human limitations yet without sin. When we realize in our soul that God himself came to humanity to save us, we can loudly sing the words, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.. To strengthen our faith and make these words real in our body, mind, and soul, the Meadville Catholic Community will be offering the course Discovering Christ beginning Sunday, February 8 at 6 pm at St. Mary Social Hall. I want the presence of Jesus to be as real to you as he was in the arms of Mary that Christmas night. The goal of the course is to answer the deepest question What is the meaning of life? and lead us to the source of the answer Jesus Christ. May Christ, the source of joy for the world, bless you and keep you during this Christmas season. Fr. Johnathan PS: For more information on Discovering Christ, go to the Office of Faith Formation and Evangelization website EVENTS ELSEWHERE WASHINGTON DC MARCH FOR LIFE JAN. 22 Join pro-life friends on a trip of a lifetime!
