5 From Page 1 - Lenten Day Apart Bio: Bishop Cho Young Jin Cho was elected a bishop and consecrated at the Southeastern Jurisdic onal Conference held July 18 20, 2012, in Lake Junaluska, N.C. He is the first Korean American elected to the episcopacy in the Southeastern Jurisdic on.while it is uncommon for a newly elected bishop to be returned to his or her home conference, Cho was assigned to come home to Virginia to lead the Virginia Conference for the next four years. Cho was born Sept. 17, 1946, in Onyang, South Korea, and graduated from Methodist Theological Seminary in Seoul, Korea, where he received a Th.B. and a Th.M. He came to the United States in 1979 and received an M. Div and D. Min. from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. He was ordained in the East Annual Conference of the Korean Methodist Church in 1977 and transferred to the Virginia Conference in He was senior pastor of Korean United Methodist Church of Greater Washington (KUMCGW) in McLean, for 22 years before being appointed superintendent of the Arlington District in In his ministry as a District Superintendent, Cho con nued to focus on Christ s vision for the Arlington District. A er prayerful discernment, his ministry concentrated on three areas: developing new faith communi es, revitalizing exis ng churches by transforming clergy leadership and strengthening connec onalism. In seven years, under his leadership, the Arlington District started more than 10 new faith communi es and introduced many training events for the clergy and laity to strengthen spiritual founda on of ministry. He always emphasized that Christ should be the Lord in our mission and ministries, and prayer should go first. Bishop Cho and his wife, Kiok, a deacon in full connec on, have two daughters, Grace and Sophia, and one son, Chris. UMCOR s Primary Funding Source March 6, 2016

6 To the Clergy and Laity of the Salisbury District: District Conference - Feb 20, 2016 In our last District newsletter, we made you aware of the upcoming Salisbury District Conference, to be held on Saturday, February 20 th, from 10 till noon, at Christ UMC, Phillip Morris Drive, in Salisbury. In that newsletter, we explained the purpose of the District Conference and the 3 issues to be voted upon. As a follow up, we wish to make you aware of the nominees that have been submitted by several of the District churches. Here are the names that will be listed on the official ballot. Of course, there will be an opportunity to receive nominations from the floor if necessary. PLEASE make sure your voting delegate (Lay Member) to the Annual Conference is in attendance. They and the pastors will be the only ones permitted to vote at the District Conference. A Wonderful Evening at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Celebration Banquet An evening of music and inspiration was enjoyed at the Rev. 19 United Methodist Women has launched the "Umbrellas Up" campaign to highlight human trafficking as the second largest criminal industry in the world. Human trafficking includes forced agricultural and domestic labor as well as forced sexual slavery. Large sporting events, such as the Super Bowl, is a prime staging arena for human trafficking. Some of those who are trafficked will be serving food in restaurants or at catered parties related to the Super Bowl. Others will be trafficked as sex workers for escort services or in "gentlemen's" clubs. Learn more about human trafficking in our area by attending this seminar on January 30th.

Attention Seminary Students of the Peninsula Delaware Conference! In November of 2010, Trinity United Methodist Church honored the Rev. George R. Patterson by establishing a scholarship fund in his name with The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, Inc. The scholarship fund has grown to just over $100,000 dollars. This scholarship fund will benefit only United Methodist ministerial students from the Peninsula Delaware Conference currently enrolled in seminary as they work toward earning a Master of Divinity Degree. This fund will annually provide approximately $5, dollars for a qualifying student (s). For information and application visit The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore website.
