2 Letters to Home I wish you could come over some time to see the decorating that has been done in the sanctuary and rotunda. We had an awesome team of people work on lighting, painting, and decorating of the worship space. Many thanks to Debbie Hyman, Chad Sherman, Nina German, and Sarah Cross for lending their expertise. The look brings a sacred nature to a wonderful space. I find that when we are intentional about our sacred space, God inhabits that area with warmth and love. This principle also holds true for our interior life. We need to open the door and allow the Spirit in. That is when His work takes place. So many good things are happening in our church. We recently started our confirmation group, we are in the midst of our daily prayer guide in the book of Acts, we are planning for the Father Daughter Dance, and a Passover Seder meal is scheduled for March 29 th. My prayer is that each activity brings people to a new connection with Jesus. So when you see the church you will like it, but more importantly I hope you see the changes on the inside of the many new people who are coming to Delphi UMC. If you re currently volunteering in any of the areas below, and you have never attended the Child Protection Training...This is the time to do it!!! Sunday School Teachers Children s Church Teachers Youth Helpers Shepherds Nursery Volunteers Outreach Volunteers (VBS, Father Daughter, Fall Carnival, Teen Events) Teen Center Sunday School Teachers Yes, You! We ll be offering this as a 2 session course on February 1st and February 8th. It will be during the Sunday school hour (10-11am) and in room 211 (Children s Large Meeting Room). Please understand that you must attend both days. We re choosing to do it this way because we know that Sunday is a convenient time for most people since they re already at church. Thank you to all who donated their time and/or gave food or toy donations to the Christmas Baskets projects in collaboration with area churches. 101 families were able to receive toys for their children (154 boys, 130 girls). 275 families were able to receive food boxes. Thank you for being a church willing to serve those in need and spread the Kingdom of God throughout Carroll County.

3 The United Methodist Women have planned a year of mission projects aimed at helping women and children in marginalized situations through love, hope, and faith in action! The first joint meeting will be at the church on Tuesday, February 3rd at 7 p.m. Membership pledges, Prayer and Self Denial Offerings, and the new reading program information will be shared. Sunday, February 15 will be the installation of officers and the general members will receive their pledge cards. At this time we want to invite all ladies interested in supporting missions, developing lasting friendships, working on worthwhile projects, and learning about social issues throughout the world to join our group. Or, if you are interested in helping with the Tuesday Rotary meals or other dinners, we are excited to have you. Ways to be involved: Save cancelled stamps for postage for Marion Mission Support the local food pantry each month Start saving gently used shoes, knit shirts and tops, kids shorts and dresses for Africa (June) Check out books from the reading program if interested in completing a program by reading only 1 book from each of the 5 categories, see Kathleen Ukstins Volunteer to help with the March 9th or March 17th dinner, see Linda Mylet We look forward to serving in as many ways and areas as we can! Associate Pastor of Marriage and Family Life Begins New Role at DUMC Pastor Sheri Rohrer, who has served here for eight years, is moving back to her half time role. In this newly created position she will have responsibility in two main areas. The first is in healthy functioning for the congregation, staff, and teams. Her job is to help each staff member, and consequently each team, to accomplish their ministries in such a way that there is strength in the church. The ultimate vision is that we have a healthy vibrant church that brings culture change to our community by the way we play, live, and work in our community. Her second role is to aid marriages and families by developing seminars, retreats, resources, and connections for strong marriages. The vision in this area is that we can be a church where people can be honest and real about their lives and find hope for a better life. We all struggle, but as disciples of Jesus who are authentic we can overcome our hurts, hang-ups, and habits to make things better. Be sure to look for Pastor Sheri s Monthly Morsel in each newsletter to help you gain insight in your interpersonal relationships. I m looking forward to getting back in here and focusing my energies on strengthening families and marriages. I have a great passion for giving people tools and skills for building healthy and vibrant relationships. Along with that, I m excited to work with our congregation, staff and church teams to help establish healthy patterns and habits of relating with each other so that we can be an even stronger force for spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Sheri will still hold a small pastoral counseling schedule and aid in preaching and general pastoral roles. We are so happy for Sheri that she can return to this half time role.

4 During 2014 we had a wish list for accomplishing several projects that needed completion. Through the generous donation of one family, we were able to finish many projects. Also, through the help of many Volunteers, we were able to finish the Teen Center loft, paint the worship space at the front of the sanctuary, and add important lighting improvements. This year we are again making a wish list that will bring improvements to the church. They are helpful to what we do, but are not funded through the 2015 budget. If they get done we will be in a much better position moving forward, which is why they are on the wish list. 1. Portable kneeling rails for worship space 2. Second Sunday School class trailer 3. Help worship platform blend seamlessly We are rolling out The Red Carpet for the Father/Daughter Dance Saturday, March 14, :00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Delphi United Methodist Church Tickets available February 1-22 Father tickets: $7 Daughter tickets: $5 Children s Musical February 22nd Come join the children on an adventure as they present God s Not Dead, a musical about finding God s presence even among hardship and tragedy. They ll be performing some of your favorite songs and are excited to lead you in this unique worship. There will be only 290 tickets available and may sell out early. If there are any tickets available after Feb. 22nd the price will be $10.00 per ticket due to event planning and food costs. So get your tickets early if you plan to attend this year s event and don t forget to tell your friends and neighbors. 5 February s Food Pantry Item is: You may bring in your items at any time and place them in the food pantry cabinet, located in the rotunda, next to the office door. Thank you for helping to feed our community! Easter Lilies Easter is just around the corner and that means we will soon have Easter lilies available to order! Each year these lilies help beautify our Worship Center during the Easter season. This year, lilies will be $8.75 each. Be on the lookout for more information on ordering them in February and March. Like always, you may place your order in honor of or in memory of someone. Nursery Staff We are excited to welcome Kelsie Sausaman as our new Nursery Coordinator! Kelsie has a love for little ones and much experience working with children and families. Please give her a warm welcome the next time you see her! If you have questions or need to discuss scheduling with Kelsie, you can reach her at (765) and ksausaman@delphiumc.org. You can also catch her in the nursery during Sunday school and second service. Who can I expect to see in the nursery when I drop my children off? If you attend First Service, Laura Howard will be the primary caretaker in the nursery, along with a church volunteer. If you attend Sunday School or Second Service, Kelsie Sausaman will be the primary caretaker, along with a church volunteer. As the Pastor of Marriage and Family Life, I ll be bringing you a Monthly Morsel of insight and teaching pertaining to things such as marriage, parenting, assertiveness, conflict resolution, etc. My goal is to give you something to think about and apply in your own life situations. It is my prayer that we all grown in 2015, in our relationship with Jesus and our relationships with each other, so that we can become more like Christ and love the way Jesus loved. When that happens, we ll begin to see transformations in how we live together and relate with one another. When that happens, the world just may see in us a God who loves, who forgives and who offers grace. Shalom, Marriage and Family Life Marriage and parenting are wonderful experiences in life. They bring all kinds of fulfillment and joy. Let s be honest, they take work, and lots of it! That s why I m bringing you an excellent website that you can check out and add to your favorites because it will probably become one! is a website that offers all kinds of good things for marriages, parents, and families. You ll find information on romance, saving your marriage, going deeper in your marriage, there s stuff specifically for husbands and stuff specifically for wives. You ll also find all kinds of parenting tools from character and spiritual development, to challenges and discipline. There are specific things for children, tweens, teens and even adult children. You can also subscribe for daily devotionals and newsletters. Just look down the tabs for each parenting and marriage and you ll see Daily Inspiration and Newsletter as options. There is a plethora of good tips and tools under each tab. I highly encourage you to go check it out! May your marriage be enriched and your parenting intentional.

When Paul wrote about love in I Corinthians 13, he didn t give a definition but instead he described how it acts: unselfish, unconditional, and always looking out for the person s best interest. Jesus greatest commandment given was: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Matt. 22: 37,39) Without this essential emotion, life is empty and meaningless. When God s love flows in and through us, we become more like Jesus. Strong suggestion: Give love everyday in your actions and words, not just in your Valentine. Cold and Flu season is still affecting a lot of people, so please be diligent in practicing your good health precautions: wash hands, cover your mouth when coughing, and stay home to rest and drink fluids when not feeling well. Know the difference? Flu----high fever, headache, chills, fatigue and body aches; comes on faster and lasts longer; may be helped by antibiotic, only if a bacterial infection. Colds----stuffy or runny nose and scratchy throat, then coughing and sneezing; shorter duration. 7 Prayer Ministry We hope you are finding your Prayer Guide of studying and praying in the Book of Acts a wonderful experience to grow in your spiritual life. Faith is the essential quality of all believers who desire to communicate effectively with God. We must believe and stretch our hands in faith to that which cannot be seen. Prayer is faith claiming and it takes hold of its natural, immeasurable inheritance. Faith does the impossible because it lets God take control, and nothing is impossible with God. During your time with God during these 28 days, pray, expecting God to lead us in 2015 to bring honor and glory to Him through His ministry through us, His people. When He calls us to do His kingdom work, He empowers, equips and supplies our every need to accomplish His plan; we just need to respond to His call and be obedient to Him. Our faith will grow as we spend time with Him and pray for His will to be done in 2015 at DUMC. Pray expecting the Holy Spirit to move in a mighty way and bring revival to our church.
