Preparation Scripture: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word truth. 17:17 Print on cardstock one copy each of the three illustration pages. Print one copy of the age-appropriate activity sheet for each child. Materials for Bible Craft instructions at end of th lesson. Review Say, showing the character wall: We re adding a block of trustworthiness to your character wall. Hold up the picture from Lesson #1, reading the caption. Say: We started cementing th block in place by learning that trustworthiness knows. You show trustworthiness when you know who counts on you. You know what those people depend on you to do. You know they can trust you to do what you are supposed to do or what you say you will do. Introduction Say: Today we re going to learn something unusual about trustworthiness. Hold up the picture of the highway sign, reading the caption, Trustworthiness Lives in. Say: I wonder what that means. If you have an idea, keep it to yourself for now, and lten to our story. See if the story helps you understand what it means when we say Trustworthiness Lives in. Tell th story in your own words, changing it to fit your lteners culture and ages. Spring camp at last! Brandon unpacked as fast as he could. He was just plopping a hat on h black hair when the cabin door opened. Hi, he said to the newcomer. I m Brandon. Jake. The other boy ducked h blond head as he gave Brandon a friendly poke. I live in Pearl Harbor, Jake said. Well, not IN the harbor. He grinned. In Pearl City. Where do you live? Aiea but I go to school in Pearl City. Brandon pointed to the blue Pegasus tee shirt he was wearing. Me too! Jake said. That, I will after spring camp. Navy just stationed us here. Got here two days ago. Jake started unpacking h gear. Do you get out of Aiea often other than for school? he asked. All the time! Brandon laughed. Dad says we don t really live in Aiea. That s just where our house. Jake frowned. I don t get it, he said, plopping onto the lower pale blue bunk bed. What do you mean?

2 We only live in Aiea for some things, explained Brandon. We do our sleeping in Aiea. We do our eating in Aiea, too. I go to school in Pearl City and do homework at the Pearl City library after school every day. We shop in Honolulu, said Brandon. I take piano lessons in Kapolei. I come to Makaha for camps and weekly surfing lessons, but I go to Ewa Beach for weekly swimming lessons. We vit my grandparents in Mililani most of every Sunday. Wow! Jake shook h head. Seven places! Your dad s right! You really don t live in Aiea, do you?! You live all over the land. It wasn t that way back in Texas. We did everything in the same town. Where d you live back there? Brandon asked. Palestine, Texas, said Jake. When we said we lived in Palestine, it meant that s where we were all day and all night. That s where we were every day of the week. Everything we did we did in Palestine. Everything we said we said in Palestine. If someone said Jake lives in Palestine they meant ALL the time everything! Just then, a loud bell rang. Come on! Time for lunch, Brandon said. We can talk about where we live later. He pulled Jake to h feet and out the door. Hope we have plate lunch. You aren t Hawaiian until you love plate lunch. The boys never again talked about where they lived, but both of them thought about it that week at camp. Funny thing. We all say where we live, but you only really live there if you do everything there. Bible Story: The Preacher s Kids applying 17:17 Bettilou and Tom were preacher s kids. They liked being preacher s kids, but they hated hearing people say, Preacher s kids are always the worst kids in town. Bettilou brought up the subject at the end of breakfast. Why do they say that? She plopped her mealworm science project on the table as she asked. They say it to hide their own kids rotten deeds, Tom said. He spun an apple across the table to h ster. Why not show them you aren t the worst kids? Dad suggested as he picked up h Bible. We can talk about it after lunch. He ksed Mom, and hurried off to Saturday Morning Bible Study. Dad s car was barely out of sight when the doorbell rang. Tom went to the door, and a man holding a big black vacuum cleaner said, Hi. Is your mom home? Nope. Sorry. Tom closed the door, locked it, and went back to the kitchen. Who was that, Tom? Mom asked. Some guy got the wrong address. Tom sat down and looked at h ster s experiment. Hey, you re giving those mealworms nothing but wet foods. You should put in dry foods, too, and see which they like better. He went to the cupboard and got some dry oatmeal. He also sneaked a candy bar into h back pocket. After lunch, Dad asked, Well, how can you two show people that you aren t the worst kids in town? We can be polite, Bettilou offered. Tom grinned. They d think we re the best kids in town if we passed out money, he said. He didn t tell Dad that he was actually thinking of using the youth group s money. He was the one that collected it in youth meeting every week, and no one else ever knew how much there was. No one would know if he used some of it. Dad ltened to one more idea before saying, I think the important thing that you show trustworthiness. Show people that you live in truth. Let everyone see that you wake up in truth and live in truth all day long. Show that everything you say truth and everything you do truth. You live in truth all the time.

3 Dad opened h Bible to 17:17 and handed it to Tom. Read that verse for us, Tom, he said. Tom read, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word truth. Dplay the picture of the Bible. Dad nodded. Jesus prayed those words to H Father in Heaven, Who God. He asked God to set us apart by H truth, and then Jesus said that God s truth. When we live in God s, and obey it: We speak truth not so-called good lies, white lies, little lies, etc. We speak only truth all the time. We do truth not half-truth that lets us steal a little bit. We do only truth all the time. We live in truth not in truth sometimes or only on Sundays. We live in truth all the time. Tom and Bettilou nodded seriously. They could not do th alone, they knew. They must ask for God s help, but they were determined to show trustworthiness beginning that very day. Tom could hardly wait to put back the candy bar, tell Mom about the lies, and put the youth group s money in the bank where it wouldn t tempt him. Apply the two stories in age-appropriate words. Hold up the picture of the highway sign again, and read, Trustworthiness Lives in! You show trustworthiness when you say and do everything in truth. You always tell the truth and you always do the truth. In our first story, Brandon talked about living in Aiea a city in Hawaii, on the land of Oahu. He didn t do everything in Aiea, though. He didn t say everything in Aiea. Show map of Hawaii, pointing out the places as you review: Brandon went different places every week. He ate and slept in Aiea. He went to school and did homework in Pearl City. He shopped in Honolulu. He took piano lessons in Kapolei. Camp and weekly surfing took him to Makaha swimming lessons took him to Ewa Beach. He spent Sundays in Mililani. He really lived in many places, not in one place. Hold up the picture of the Bible again, and read, Trustworthiness Lives in! God wants H children to live in H. That means we will read, study, and think about H many times every day. God s will teach us to speak and do truth all the time. People who spend a lot of time in God s can show trustworthiness because they live in truth. You might live right here in our town, but you live in God s, too. You learn it. You obey it. You let it tell you what to do. Everything you say and do. People who live in ALWAYS say and do only what. That s why people can trust them. That s why you can count on them. You can depend on them to tell the truth all the time. You show trustworthiness when you say and do everything in truth. Let s pray together that God will help you live in H live in. Close by handing out assignment sheets.

7 Bible Craft What you will need: 1 bag o severa label sh 1/8 wid scsors glue stick What you will do: (see illustrations) Show s Instruc Dtribu Glue ab Add mo Fold th students a finhed sample of the craft. t studentss to leave their candy wrapped. ute supplies. bout ½ of the ribbon to the middle of the black card rectangle. ore glue to the black card and center the candies on it over the ribbon. e printed label in half. Apply glue to the back of it and stick it on top of the candies, centering the fold between the candies to look like an open Bible. ribbon and dab a little glue along the center off the side facing you. he ribbon over the two candies, sticking it along the middle of the pages. Press the ribbon gently with a finger or paperclip. Let dry completely. Lift the Bring th of mini candy bars wrapped in gold paper l sheets of black card stock, cut into 2 ¼ " x 1 ½ cards heets (provided below) 1 label for each student dth red ribbon 3 length for each student

Talk to one of your parents about staying in when you eat, when you play, when you go to school, and when you go to bed. Talk about how you show trustworthiness by always being in.
