1 The Rosary Catholic Primary School 18 th December 2017 Aspire, Believe, Achieve: Together in Christ Telephone: God of light, you sent your Son into the world to guide us and show us how to live. Help us to follow his example by loving and caring for others. Amen. Our last 2 weeks began with our youngest children performing their Nativity play and ended with KS2 sharing the message of Christmas with us through their production in church. I must say the whole week from start to finish was spectacular with every child realizing the message of Christmas and bringing this to our hearts during this time of Advent. What it means, of course, is that our loving God gave us the greatest gift possible: his own Son. God gave us a Saviour, the Prince of Peace, the promise of eternal life -- and all the wisdom, peace and comfort the little child Jesus would grow to give us as a very way of life and a pathway to God. This gift that changed humanity forever, came to a couple without means, without the ability to lavish presents on anyone, in the form of an innocent child born in a simple manger full of animals and straw. All they really had was each other and faith in God as well as a love that gave them the drive and confidence to endure all, and to do God s will.

2 There is a lesson for us all in this. God could just as well have chosen a rich woman to give birth to Jesus, but he chose a poor one. God could just have easily ensured Jesus was born in the finest beds surrounded by silk sheets and servants. God could just as easily have chosen to make life easy for Mary and Joseph, but instead they faced many obstacles and hardships before and after Jesus was born. I think the lesson of this first Christmas is that the trappings of this world do not really matter in the end. Yes, we are blessed to have them and should be grateful for every comfort and for the security they bring, but none of that matters in the larger scheme of things. Presents are wonderful, of course, and we do well to make others happy by giving them, but Christmas and what it means for us would be as powerful and as lifechanging without them. Lights, tinsel, candy canes and all those things that have come to symbolize this magical holiday are fun and do make Christmas special. There is nothing wrong with that. But would you agree that what really matters -- 2,000 years ago and today -- is the spirit of love that is Christmas -- God s love for us and our love for each other? A special thanks must go to our hard working staff, at every level who are the foundation that our school is built upon. I wish you all a very Blessed Christmas and a Happy 2018.

4 News of our Link School Pupils in Year 6 have received letters from Mbabzi School, Malawi. They have responded by writing cards and letters in return, wishing our friends in Africa a Happy New Year. Nasal Flu vaccination for years Reception 1, 2, 3 and 4 children Dear Parent/Carer We recently attended your child s school to administer Flu Vaccines to the Year Reception 1, 2, 3 and 4 children. 6 The Green Parents are reminded to avoid driving down The Green and not to reverse in the school drive. This is a very dangerous habit and puts the lives of our pupils at risk. We are concerned that a number of parents are still being confrontational and rude when someone points out to them the error of their ways. Please be respectful of one another and use the car park or park further away and walk the short distance into school.

7 Christmas Jumper Day The children are invited to wear their Christmas Jumpers on the last day of term. A reminder that school finishes at 2pm on the 19 th December and we will also be having Carols round the Christmas tree at 1:15pm. P E Lessons We would like to remind parents that PE is part of the curriculum if your child has a valid medical reason for not taking part, please put your request in writing to the class teacher. A reminder that children will need to bring in jogging bottoms and tops so that they can carry on with outdoor PE. 8 Aladdin The Pantomime Key Stage 1 enjoyed the pantomime this morning. Early Years will be watching this afternoon and the Juniors tomorrow morning. Thank you to everyone who has paid for the pantos. If you haven t yet paid, please make your payment via ParentPay. Thank you.

9 Christmas Fair Thank you very much for supporting our Christmas Fair: baking cakes, donating prizes, buying raffle tickets and also spending money at the fair. We raised 2,000 which will go towards the Infant playground. We would also like to thank all the companies listed who generously donated raffle prizes.
