2 Your Child in Kids Branch Wonderful Fundraiser for Camp! Grab A Lunch Bag fundraiser was a success and we raised $ for kids to come to Sonrise Summer Camp! All proceeds go to the funding and registration of families unable to go to camp. Thank you for loving our Kids Branch kids Miss Heidi! Thanks Miss Heidi for loving our kids, parents and volunteers in Kids Branch. Your 9 years have been spent well in Kids Branch Ministry and we love you! Miss Heidi is going back to University to study Counselling and embark on a new career for her future. We are very excited for her as she will be able to use her gifts of compassion and mercy with her love of children, ministry and God in our children s & families lives. We wish her every success as she moves forward with her studies and education. Please pray for her and her family along their continued journey! Kelly Davis will bring her leadership gifts to the role of Kids Branch Ministry Assistant. Welcome Kelly as you continue to love our kids and TOB families and encourage our leaders in Kids Branch!! Welcome Kelly to her new position in Kids Branch. Kelly will start July 1st with Kids Branch Ministry. Sam Resendes will assist Kids Branch acting as, Creative Arts Worship Co-ordinator for our worship team and kids ministry! 3 Family Gym Black Walnut Public School All are welcome to the drop-in Family Gym Night. We meet usually every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. Invite your family and friends to join us to keep fit! This month we are collecting for Sonrise Summer Camp & Markham Pregnancy Centre with The Baby Bottle Campaign. Congratulations to Joseph! Joseph won a York Region school award called Yes, I Can. Congratulations for all your hard work and success in the future. Summer Sundays - Serving in Kids Branch All our Kids Branch Parents are needed to help us throughout the summer - Sign up and serve as Jesus wants us to love and lead our kids! Everything is prepared for you! Sign up in the Kids Branch Kiosk! Teens for Community Service hours Do you have any teens looking for high school community service hours? You can receive them in Kids Branch! When: During the week or in a Kids Branch class. What: Assist with Kids Branch activities or engage with kids or help prepare crafts. Why: Receive your community service hours, gain leadership skills, serve God and the community & build new relationships! 3

5 BIBLE SKILLS FOR KIDS What are the Bible Skills for Kids? Bible Skills for Kids covers 19 Bible skills and concepts that preschoolers and kids can learn as they interact with and learn about the Bible. These Bible skills and concepts are presented through four different age ranges, from younger preschool through older kids, and reflect Bible skill goals kids can reach by the end of the age range given. How do I read this document? Go to the age range your child or student is in to see what Bible skills are appropriate goals for his age. You will want to check the statement before and after to see what is most suitable for your child according to his level of growth, development, and Bible learning. Learning style and pace will differ from child to child. Why are there no specific ages listed? Bible Skills for Kids does not specify precise ages because God designed each child to develop differently. Your child will progress through concepts at a pace and understanding unique for how God created your child and her interaction with the Bible. What is the goal of presenting these Bible skills? This document will give you a goal for what your child is capable of learning by the time he is a preteen. It can be helpful to start at the concept presented in the preteen age range to view the higher level Bible skills for each age group. > Knows the Bible is a book. > Hears names of some of the books in the Bible. > Touches, holds, and turns the pages of the Bible. > Helps open the Bible. Says the word Bible. > Hears Bible words and phrases. Says some Bible words and repeats short phrases (3-5 words). > Listens to brief Bible stories. Points to the Bible and pictures of Jesus. > Hears the names of God, Jesus, and some Bible people. > Associates God and Jesus with the Bible. > Hears Bible verses and stories read from a Bible at home. > Hears Bible verses that relate to his everyday activities. > Hears that God told people to write the Bible. > Hears the names of Bible books. > Hears the names of Bible divisions. > Sees the Bible used to tell a story. YOUNGER PRESCHOOL > Knows there are two main parts of the Bible the Old Testament and the New Testament. > Begins to pronounce the names of the books of the Bible. > Begins to recognize names of books in the Bible. Knows that Genesis is the first book of the Bible, Matthew is the first book of the New Testament, and Psalms is in the middle of the Bible. Opens Bible to a Bible marker. > Begins to understand that a Bible reference includes a book, chapter, and verse. Knows that the Bible is a book that people use at church and home. > Remembers and says simple Bible words, phrases, and verses with Bible references. > Remembers and retells a familiar Bible story and Bible fact. > Remembers the names of familiar Bible people. > Understands that the Bible tells that God sent Jesus to earth. > Uses the Bible at home to participate in family devotional times. > Begins to understand how Bible verses apply to his life. > Begins to understand that people wrote God s words in the Bible. > Knows that the Old and New Testaments of the Bible are divided into smaller parts called books. Names a few Bible books in order. > Hears about content of different divisions of the Bible, such as history, gospels, and letters. > Begins to use simple tools for Bible discovery (printed and digital resources).
