May 2017 Senior Recognition Day May 21! May 21-27! VBS June 5-9! Coming June 13-15!
UNIQUELY WIRED, WONDERFULLY MADE VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL PRESCHOOL 4 YRS KINDERGARTEN ELEMENTARY 1ST-6TH GRADE June 5-9, :00 am 12:30 pm asburycc.org or call JOIN THE FUN...VOLUNTEER! SIGN UP IN THE FOYER OR ONLINE AT asburycc.org Be a shepherd, crew leader, greeter, Bible teacher, help prepare snacks, be part of the setup or takedown crew, play games, or help with crafts. If you re under 16 years old, we need you as an assistant!
A Word from Pastor Tom... Okay, I ll admit it s a gimmick. But it s a gimmick based on a request. Why don t you wear Aggie colors on Sunday morning? Here s the gimmick. Every Sunday in June, I will wear the team colors chosen by the congregation in May. In fact, for the first full week of June (this includes VBS and annual conference), I will wear the chosen colors every day. In June, the congregation will choose my July Sunday attire, August s will be chosen in July, etc. By the time September rolls around, I may end up with quite the eclectic wardrobe. It s your choice. How does the church choose? Every dollar given in tithe/offering is a vote. If you give by check, note the name of the team you re voting for Texas Longhorns, Corpus Christi Hooks, Toledo Mudhens, etc. If you give by cash, simply put the cash in an envelope with your vote on the outside. If you re giving through an automatic withdrawal, simply contact the office and let your team preference be known. Cathy or Ellen will make sure it happens. We ll keep a running total posted in the bulletin each Sunday. During the entire summer, we ll keep up the challenge. But I would like to make another challenge to us at Asbury. Over the past several years, our church giving has dropped during the summer. The result has been delayed mortgage payments and other bills, and, the holding of paychecks. My challenge to you is to commit to a regular pattern of giving in May, June, July, and August. Whether the pattern is on a weekly basis, a monthly one, or somewhere in between, decide ahead of time what you ll give and when. The reason for the gimmick is to add a little fun to giving. The reason for the regular-giving challenge is to encourage you to exercise your Christian faith. Regular giving reminds each of us that God provides. He did today. He will tomorrow. How do Ellen and I give? We set aside our tithe 10% of our salaries upon receipt of our paychecks. On the 16 th of each month, our Asbury gift is an automatic withdrawal from our bank account. We give our offerings and gifts throughout the month as we see needs we d like to help meet. Let s have fun this summer with our giving! (Ellen would like to make a plug for the Palermo soccer team from Italy, for obvious reasons.) To live, to love, to laugh is all Jesus Christ! Tom

ASBURY CHURCH IS HOSTING A UM ARMY TEAM MAY What is UM ARMY? United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission by Youth provides an opportunity for youth and adults to experience Christian growth through service to others. Participants combine their strengths and resources to meet home repair and maintenance needs for low income, elderly, and disabled homeowners who are physically or financially unable to make needed repairs themselves. U.M. ARMY began in 1979, when thirty-six youth and adults from three Houston churches held the first U.M. ARMY mission week in Athens, TX. Since that time it has grown to over 60 programs nationally each year. The team of 20 college-age young adults coming to Corpus Christi will be building several ramps at houses for handicap accessibility and will also be replacing a roof for another family. How Can We Help? The team will be housed in our CLC and we are hoping to provide snacks and supper for them each night they re here. If your Sunday School class or Home Team group would like to provide a meal or a day of snacks, please call Ellen at the office ( ) or send her an (office@asburycc.org). This way we can coordinate our snacks and meals and give them some variety. Another way to help is if you have a fan you could loan the team for the week to help cool the classrooms at night for them to sleep. Just put your name on it and bring it to the office, and we ll make sure you get it back.
ASBURY MEN NEWS The Bloodmobile is Coming! Asbury Church Sunday, May 21, :30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. The next meeting of the Asbury Methodist Men is Every three seconds someone needs blood. Monday, May 8 at 7pm The fact is blood donors save lives. It s that simple and that important. More than four million Americans would die each year if not for blood donors. In the Coastal Bend, more than 150 people a day must donate blood in order to maintain the blood supply for our community. Giving blood is also a great way for donors to gain access to vital information pertaining to their own health. A free mini -physical is given at the time of donation, which includes a screening of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and iron levels. Then, following the donation, blood donors are mailed information regarding their blood type and cholesterol level. All blood donors will receive donor store points and a Sonic coupon at the time of their donation. Hope to see you there! Asbury is in need of two or more additional Mowing Team members. Teams are three or four members who mow and trim the church property about seven times a year, or about every two months. You ll get to learn to mow on our cool Scag Zero Turn riding mower it s easy and fun. Please contact Jim Mailhes at for more info or to sign up. Thanks for your service!

The Women's Connection sponsored an afternoon of fun and fellowship at Crazy Picasso on Sunday, April 30. Each of the artists got to keep their works of art and had a great time creating and enjoying good company. There was no way to judge the artwork. Each production looked great! Five Asburians went to Eagle Pass this weekend to repair a house that was damaged in a house fire. The house belongs to an older woman, Mrs. Salazar, whose daughter neglected to pay the insurance. They also delivered seven boxes of books from CCISD to the Lima Bonita Kids Club. John & Sue Ellen Fry, Gail & Dave Drown, and Don Houge worked with Mission Border Hope to be Jesus s hands and heart and our representatives. We are proud of you!

Because you and your recovery are important! Children are welcome under parent's supervision. Celebrate Recovery Purpose The purpose of the Celebrate Recovery ministry at Asbury Church is to fellowship and celebrate God's healing power in our lives through the 12 Steps and Recovery Principles. This experience allows us to "be changed." We open the door by sharing our experiences, strengths, and hopes with one another. In addition, we become willing to accept God's grace in solving our lives' problems. By working and applying these Biblical Principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive, and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy, and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. As we progress through the program, we discover our personal, loving, and forgiving Higher power Jesus Christ. Welcome to an AMAZING SPIRITUAL ADVENTURE! Childcare provided
