3 June 17th, th Sunday In Ordinary Time They that are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. --Psalm 92:14 THE MASTER STORYTELLER In today's Gospel, Jesus is presented to us as the master storyteller. He loved to use parables as a tool for comparing one thing to something else. In most of his parables, Jesus revealed who God is by comparing God's essence or actions with something familiar to his listeners. In the parable of the mustard seed, Jesus proclaims a marvelous and irrefutable truth. His small band of disciples, as insignificant as they may have felt, would one day produce a mighty kingdom whose growth was initiated by God. The seeds of this kingdom were planted by God and it is God who will harvest the fruit brought forth from those seeds. The extent of the growth of God's kingdom cannot be predicted. (offered once per month in English and Spanish) TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The reign of God comes about because people commit to reversing their lives completely, to embracing new vision, new values. Many popular television shows exploit an unattractive side of human nature by pitting contestants against one another, even to the point of performing dangerous stunts or devious schemes, to gain money or favor. At the liturgy, we counter that impulse by committing ourselves to live generously. In response to Christ's total gift, we offer bread and wine as the emblems of our lives, our hopes, our joys and sorrows. The bread and wine carried to the altar contain our lives, and by offering our lives to God, we prepare to receive the gift of God's own life. We are to become what we receive: the body of Christ. On Sundays, this self-giving is often accompanied by a collection and procession of gifts for the poor and money for the upkeep of the parish. There are certainly other methods of collecting money, some perhaps more efficient. Las bodas son ritos religiosos y culturales que celebran el inicio de un matrimonio. En 1215 el matrimonio se convirtió en sacramento cristiano. Este sacramento tiene un rito simple por el cual la pareja se casa proclamando en público su mutuo consentimiento. En Latinoamérica varios ritos culturales han sido incorporados al rito cristiano para embellecerlo con simbolismo y folclor. Uno de estos ritos es el de las arras y es mencionado por Jesús en la parábola de la mujer que encuentra su moneda perdida. Según tradiciones judías y árabes la familia del novio entregaba una cantidad de dinero al padre de la novia. Algunas de estas monedas eran dadas a la novia como recuerdo del día de su boda. Esta costumbre llega a España durante la invasión de los Moros. Pero luego los españoles la trajeron a América. Arras significan "garantía" y son las primicias del sostenimiento económico que el novio dará a la nueva familia que se establece en el matrimonio de la pareja. UN EXCELENTE CUENTISTA En el Evangelio de hoy, se nos presenta a Jesús como un excelente cuentista. A él le gustaba contar parábolas como una forma para comparar esto de aquello. En muchas de las parábolas, Jesús revela quien es Dios al comparar la naturaleza o acciones de Dios con alguna situación conocida de su audiencia. En la parábola de la semilla de mostaza, Jesús proclama una verdad maravillosa e irrefutable. Su pequeño grupo de discípulos, tan insignificantes como ellos se hubieran sentido, un día producirán un reinado poderoso cuyo crecimiento lo comenzó Dios. Las semillas de este reino fueron plantadas por Dios y es Dios quien cosechará el fruto producido por esas semillas. No se puede predecir que tanto crecerá el Reino de Dios. Cộng đồng Taizé được thầy Brother Roger Schütz ( ) một tín hữu Tin lành thành lập năm 1940, với ý tưởng phục vụ cho người trẻ và thúc đẩy sự đoàn kết và tình liên đới với nhau. - Hdgmvietnam.com (tóm tắt) Các giám mục VN và dự luật về đặc khu kinh tế Theo UCANews.com, hằng chục ngàn người đã xuống đường vào ngày 10 tháng 6 vừa qua tại nhiều thành phố ỏ VN để phản đối dự luật về đặc khu kinh tế. Riêng tại hạt Minh Cầm, giáo phận Vinh đã có 2,000 người Công giáo, với sự tham dự của Đức cha Cao Đình Thuyên, nguyên giám mục Vinh, và đông đảo các linh mục, giơ các khẩu hiệu phản đối dự luật. Đức cha Nguyễn Thái Hợp, giám mục giáo phận Vinh và chủ tịch Ủy ban Giám mục về Công lý và Hòa bình tuyên bố rằng dự luật bao gồm nhiều rủi ro và nguy cơ gây thiệt hại cho quyền lợi quốc gia, đặc biệt là xâm phạm đến an ninh và chủ quyền đất nước. Ngài cũng cho rằng mô hình đặc khu kinh tế nay đã lỗi thời, không thích hợp cho việc phát triển kinh tế trong thời đại khoa học kỹ thuật hôm nay. Đức cha lo ngại sự nhượng bộ về thuế, thời gian thuê đất và những uu đãi cho giới kinh doanh trong các đặc khu kinh tế sẽ chắc chắn mang lại những lợi lộc quá đáng cho giới đầu tư ngoại quốc và đám người thủ lợi ở trong nước. Ngài còn nói lên những thiếu sót trong dự luật về chính sách kinh tế thích hợp, tiêu chuẩn luật pháp, việc quản trị xứng hợp và hệ thống tư pháp minh bạch. Đức cha nhấn mạnh rằng ba khu vực kinh tế đặc biệt (Vân Đồn, Bắc Vân Phong và Phú Quốc) sẽ có ảnh hưởng trực tiếp đến an ninh và chủ quyền quốc gia, đặc biệt là trong lúc Trung quốc gia tăng bành trướng và xây các căn cứ quân sự tại vùng biển Đông. Ngài còn vạch ra những vấn đề về xã hội và kinh tế tại nhiều vùng hiên nay trên toàn quốc do giới kinh d oanh, đầu tư, thầu khoán Trung quốc mua và khai thác. Trong thư đề ngày 8 tháng 6 vừa qua, Đức cha Hợp nhân danh các giám mục yêu cầu các đại biểu Quốc hội tôn trọng tôn trọng nguyện vọng của toàn dân để hoãn thông qua dự luật. Ngài cũng thúc bách nhà cầm quyền nghe ý kiến công chúng và tổ chức một cuộc trưng cầu dân ý về dự luật. Theo báo chí tại VN, việc phê chuẩn dự luật đã phãi đình hoãn cho tới cuối năm, thay vì vào ngày 15 tháng 6 như dự tính.
