6 A HIGHLIGHT of the conference was a panel which discussed the various aspects of the Lay Witness Mission in the local church. Members of the panel are: from left, Bill MarSey, Goldsboro; the Reverend Kenneth Sexton, Roseboro; Roy Turnage, Ayden, Panel Moderator; Mrs. Betty Richardson, West End; L. M. "Red" Lutterloh, Siier City; Jim Patrick, Durham. LEADERS FOR THE SCHOOL discuss the weekend program. Jr I Over 500 Methodist laymen of the North Carolina Conference of The Methodist Church will gather on the Methodist College campus Saturday ana Sunday, August 25-27, for the 1967 session of the Annual laymen's Retreat. These laymen will come from local churches throughout eastern North ' Carolina from Burlington to Manteo for the two aays of fellowship, instruction, and inspiration. - The Retreat will begin with registration at 10 o'clock Saturday an---, will V conclude with lunch on Sunday. The opening session will be at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Inspirational speakers for the retreat will be D. James W. S-lls, Executive Secretary, Committee on Lay Activities, Southeastern Jurisdiction of The Methodist Church, Atlanta, Ga., and the Rev. Alvin B. Weston of the Southeastern Jurisdiction Communications Council, Atlanta. Mr. W-ston will speak at 2:45 Saturday afternoon and Dr. Sails will speak at 8 o'clock Saturday evening and at the 11 o'clock worship service Sunday morning. These sessions L f will be in the Student Union. The Rev. L. J. Vereen of Raleigh will be the song leader lor the retreat. The theme of the retreat will be "The Stewardship of the Laity.'' Ten different discussion groups will meet in three one-hour sessions throughout the retreat and will discuss the various aspects of the theme. The leaders for these groups will be James T. Patrick, Durham; Cnarles L. McCullers, Dunn; Richard R. Allen, Fayetteville; J. Nelson Gibson, Gibson; James P. Rogers,
9 Page 2 - Laymen's Retreat Burlington; Dr. F. Olen.Hunt, Raleigh; Lee Parker, Raleigh; Dr. Sells;. '.Viston; and the R^v. Robert Gibbon, Atlanta. A highlight of the retreat will be early morning worship and fellowship around the Yarborough 3-11 Tower at 7 o'clock, led by the men of Hamlet...-Jthodist Church. Tne retreat is under the direction of Roy Turnage~of Ayden, Conference Lay...^ader and Chairman of the Conference B^ard of Lay Activities.
