Alice and Willard Roth, 8th Street members since 2008, marked 6o years together August 25. They celebrated in June with a family party in the Denver, Colorado home of son Kevin and fiancée Cindy Driver. Joining the festivities were granddaughters Becky Roth, Maggie Roth and fiancée Matt Horton, and daughter Carla Roth, Edinburgh, Scotland, with spouse Simon Barrow. Through the years their ministry has included a variety of assignments with Mennonite Central Committee, Mennonite Publishing House (now MennoMedia), Goshen College, Mennonite Board of Missions (now Mennonite Mission Network), Mennonite World Conference, and Southside Mennonite Fellowship. They welcome you to stop by Greencroft Manor IV #312 for a cup of tea with or without notice. CONCERNING FAMILY AND FRIENDS Shari Klippenstein learned on Oct. 3, that the cancer has spread. Shari will start chemo on Monday. Shari shared, My heart is heavy. Please keep Shari in your prayers. Myron Schrag had superficial blood clots developing in his arm. To ensure his safety, the IV has been pulled and now Myron is receiving all the antibiotics orally. The good news is that the daily trips to the hospital are now finished. Please keep Myron and Rickey in your prayers. ANNOUNCEMENTS After receiving a request to consider installing solar panels on our church, the trustees and church board have recommended that a special committee be formed to explore possibilities and make recommendations. Expertise about solar panels is not required, only a desire to move toward environmental care. If you are interested in being part of this committee, please contact Dale Way. Spirit Feast: A Small Group for Women. Three Spirit Feast groups have been meeting since January The groups meet once a month for 2 to 3 hours. The format for the groups is a meal (feasting) together followed by a time of sharing. If you are interested in joining a Spirit Feast group or would like more information contact Rachel Johns It is time to renew 8 th Street s group subscription to the Mennonite. If you would like to be taken off the subscription or are not receiving the Mennonite but would like to, please the church office by Monday October 17 th. The yearly subscription cost is $37, which is less than purchasing a subscription independently. Recipients are invited to contribute to the cost as they are able.

4 Guess What! It s time for the fall gathering of Guess Who s Coming to Lunch. Plan now to enjoy a meal with fellow 8 th St. attenders on Sunday, October 30. Sign-ups to participate will be the first three Sundays of October during Fellowship time. You have the option to either host a group or to be a guest. Church bus drivers needed. Recently, two of our regular church bus drivers have resigned leaving only two drivers. During 2017 one of those drivers will be out for medical reasons for an extended period. If this important ministry is to continue, we need more bus drivers. To drive the church bus, a person needs to obtain a CDL driver s license. The trustees will cover the cost of the physical and licensing fees for anyone who will complete the process and become a church bus driver. Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) welcomes donations of money for its disaster response in Haiti, where people are suffering the effects of Hurricane Matthew, which crossed the country October 4. Matthew's high winds and extensive flooding caused significant damage and increased already heightened cholera concerns in the Artibonite Valley, where MCC's long-term reforestation program operates. Fish Fry at Bethany: Bethany Christian High School s Senior Class Fish Fry is on Friday, Oct. 28! Come between the hours of 4:30 and 8 p.m. for an evening of fellowship, homemade pie, and all the fish you can eat. Tickets are available from all Bethany seniors or at the door. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children in grades 1-6. Preschool age is free. Carryout is also available with adult tickets only. Israeli and Palestinian Stories of Grief and Reconciliation. George, Najwah, and Rami are members of The Parents Circle Families Forum, a unique organization made up of more than 600 Israeli and Palestinian bereaved families. They will share their journey of transforming their incredible loss and pain into a catalyst for reconciliation and peace in the midst of the ongoing conflict. But we live in a world of injustice, fear, and racism. We find ourselves denying others their humanity in subtle, apathetic, spoken, unspoken and sometimes violent ways. We confess that we are too often full of despair and grow numb to suffering. We turn our backs to the brokenness of the world. We confess that we feel too disconnected, too unimportant, too ill-equipped or too tired to live out the justice-filled healing and hope our faith requires. Wake us up, O Holy One! Comfort those of us who are grieving, disturb those of us who are complacent. Breathe fire into our hearts and new life into our imaginations. May we see the world through the eyes of Jesus, and in seeing, act together to reveal good news and abundant life. Amen.
