In the past the fund has supported the 8thDS service trip to Meridian, Mississippi; medical mission trips, and serving with Habitat for Humanity.

4 In 2006, after hurricanes Rita and Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, 8 people from this congregation went to Meridian, Mississippi and connected with Jubilee Mennonite Church to assist their ministry to victims of the hurricanes. Since that time a relationship has been built between Eighth Street and Jubilee with a group from Eighth Street going to Meridian every year to work at various service projects. In 2010, a group from Jubilee came to Goshen to work at The Window, LaCasa and other places. You can follow the activities of this year s group going to Meridian January through the link on our church website, 8thstmennonite.org. The group will also be sharing on Sunday, January 29 during second hour. Everyone is welcome to Midweek Meal on Wednesday, January 18, at 6pm in the Fellowship Hall where a small donation will get you good food and great conversation with other Eighth Streeters. We'll be serving mounds of chili-spiced beef (plus a bean-tastic vegetarian option) and sharp cheddar cheese over a bed of crisp greens, all doused with a chunky tomato lime dressing and topped with shards of corn chips. Join us for these healthy, hearty taco salads prepared by Allison Goertz. Eighth Street will help with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Meat (turkey) Canning for Relief this Wednesday, January 18 from 7am-8:30pm at The Depot. Shifts are morning, afternoon, or evening. Checks to help with costs can be made payable to Foreign Relief MCC and sent to Ernie Miller. The website canning.mcc.org has interesting history and pictures of the project. Venture club will meet this Wednesday, January 18, from 6:30-7:30pm. We will visit the MCC mobile canner to see it in action. Upcoming Second Hour Opportunities for Adults include: January 22 with Cesar Garcia, General Secretary Elect of Mennonite World Conference; January 29 with the 8 th DS service group reporting on their trip; and February 5, March 4 and April 1 with First Sunday of the Month Intergeneration Adult Classes. More details to follow. The Eighth Street Vision Team has begun a process of discerning goals to guide congregational life and planning for the next several years (somewhat akin to the EMBRACE goals of ). Over the course of the next few months the Vision Team will be asking each regular attendee to respond to several questions about your experience with the church and your dreams for the future. Vision Team members are Leonard Beechy, Dave Gerber, Janeen Bertsche Johnson, Kate Leichty, Steve Nolt, Heather Reichenbach and Cal Zehr. The Trustee Commission encourages suggestions regarding the maintenance and improvements of the church building and grounds. Please put a signed note in the Church Mailbox or office@8thstmennonite.org identifying repairs needed or improvement suggestions.
