5 Pastor s Page? In praise to the Lord, if all things have worked according to our plans and prayers I am now enjoying the blessings of God as I visit another church today. Both Dr. Merkel and I are taking a break. Our prayer is that the break, though not together, is that it will be such a blessing that we would return next week with a renewed spirit of praise and worship. In the mean time, God bless you all. This Day In Church History... August 13, 1878 Elizabeth Payson Prentiss was born in Portland, Maine in The daughter of The Reverend Edward Payson, she unfortunately inherited his physical weakness, and was frail and sickly all her life. This is the date she died. But during her lifetime she composed. Her life was filled with physical discomfort and emotional pain as she and her husband, The Reverend George L. Prentiss suffered the loss of two of their three children. In her pain she turned to the scriptures and to the hymn, Nearer, My God To Thee. She then composed a poem based on that song. She went on to compose 123 poems of faith and encouragement. She also produced a calendar with a verse of scripture for each day of the year. She died on this date in Did You Know... Using biblical references from Genesis many people have tried to pinpoint the date of creation. None of them have been proven to be correct. Apparently the exact date of creation is one thing God has not revealed to us yet. Maybe we don t need it o confirm our faith.
