Please review the YEAR IN REVIEW booklets that have been in your mail slots. These are for all members and regular guests. This is a great resource for getting to know how the church operates. All Professing members should have received the Agenda for the meeting as well as minutes from the previous Congregational meeting. Although making/amending motions and voting privileges are only held for Professing members, anyone who has been involved in the life of the church is welcome to attend. PROFESSION OF FAITH will be celebrated next Sunday for Carien Dominicus, Dirk Spek, Lisa VanderWesthuizen, Rian VanderWesthuizen and Lauren Wine. BABY SHOWER for Ryan Elgersman and mother, Tracey this Wednesday, 7:30pm at the church building. SUNDAY SCHOOL is looking for 2 more teachers for grade 2/3. Also, a few more helpers would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Lori Morskate (403) CATECHISM AND YOUTH Grades 6-12 meet on Tuesday evening, 7:30 pm at the church building. SCHOLARSHIP - The Ponoka Ministerial Association offers an annual post-secondary scholarship of $500 based on a competitive application process to a student with a desire to complete studies related to Christian ministry. The Scholarship will be paid directly to the post-secondary institution upon applicant selection and notification by the 31st of May of the year selected, and upon approval by the Ponoka Ministerial Association Scholarship Committee. 3 SERVICES AT SONRISE FOR TIMES LIKE THESE Luke 2016 Luke s bio of Jesus is full of hope and promise. The Spirit guides his thoughts and words as he assembles the story of Jesus for times such as these. Repeatedly he reminds us that it is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the lame, blind and prisoner. It is the foreigner, outcast and courageous who have the truth revealed to them and in them. Luke boldly tells the story of God s faithfulness and how the people who hear it respond. February 7 For us, Against us and Getting in The Way Luke , World events and concerns remind us that Canada is a multi-faith nation. A quick look at the church reveals division among and distrust of so-called brothers and sisters. Jesus disciples struggled with the same issues. How he dealt with them should guide us in how we can handle our own fears. February 14 - What s Needed? First Sunday of Lent Luke The story of Mary and Martha is quite famous. Dutiful Martha gets the bad rap for being, well, dutiful. While Mary is praised for sitting at the feet of Jesus. What if those things didn t matter and something else far more important does? This will also be a celebration service when we will hear professions of faith and formally welcome new members into our congregation. REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS PRESENTING: DIGGING UP DINOSAURS: EVIDENCE FOR CREATION & THE FLOOD. You are invited to a coffee & dessert evening on February 18th, 2016 in the County Room at the Lacombe Memorial Centre, starting at 730pm. Come out for a one hour presentation by Vance Nelson, based out of Red Deer s Creation Truth Ministries. Vance Nelson holds two degrees; one in Theology and also one in Biology. He spends much of his time doing original research in areas such as paleontology, geology and archaeology. GEMS camp is a "go" this year, so save Aug 8 12, 2016 if you plan to attend. As camp was not held last year, the age restriction will be moved up one year (this year only) to finishing Grade 8. NEIGHBOURHOOD LIFE IN CENTRAL ALBERTA continues to draw attention as it mobilizes people to love their neighbour and their neighbourhood. Burman University has recently invited us to teach in their "Principles of Evangelism" class this semester, which will begin in March. And the discipleship approach will be taught in Sylvan Lake also starting this March. We are also inviting you to join the discipleship series at Wolf Creek Community Church this Sunday (tonight) at 7 pm as we dig into our role in the strained relationship between the church, Scripture and culture. We also want to remind you that stories from our Central Alberta neighbourhoods are also being collected into a book to be released this summer, and the deadline to submit your story will be March 31st.
