1 Peter 1: Peter 1:22-25
What You Will Need to Get Through 3 Prerequisites. 1. A passion for God's Word. 2. A comfortable chair. 3. A Good Sense of Humor. This Sermon If you meet these 3 prerequisites, then you will enjoy the next 45 minutes. If you don t, too bad your already here.
Goal of this sermon 100% to gain a contextual knowledge of Gods word. 100% to gain direct application for daily living in the 21 st century church. 100% to tie content in with the purpose and goal of Gospel Community Groups.
Quick Recap of 1 Peter 1: Peter 1:1-2- Primarily written to scattered Jews with Gentile Christians being included. 1 Peter 1:3-5- Praise God who gave us new birth to obtain an imperishable and permanent salvation. 1 Peter 1:4-9- And though trials may come, we rejoice because we know our faith is being refined. In this we greatly rejoice as the outcome is Honor to God and eternal salvation.
Quick Recap of 1 Peter 1: Peter 1: As to this salvation, the prophets of the OT continually prophesied, as it all pointed to Christ. It is a mystery that even angels long to look. 1 Peter 1:13-16-Therefore, because of what God is doing, we must be prepared for action and focused on Christ. As obedient children do not be conformed to former lusts of the world which were in ignorance, rather be Holy like Christ.
Quick Recap of 1 Peter 1: Peter 1: Because God is Just, Holy, and Perfect, we should be wise on how we spend our time on earth, knowing that the blood of Christ redeems us to an imperishable and eternal salvation. We have confidence because Christ was foreknown since the beginning of time. Therefore, our faith is in God.
1 Peter 1:22 (a) Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren fervently love one another (NASB) Having purified your souls by obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly (ESV) Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers love one another deeply (NIV)
Love one another John 13:34- A new command I give you; Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (ἀγαπάω) John 13:35- By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (ἀγαπάω) Romans 12:10- Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourself. (φιλαδελφία) Rom 13:8- Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who love his fellowman has fulfilled the law. (ἀγαπάω) Gal 5:13- Do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather serve one another in love. (ἀγάπη) 1 John 3:11- This is the message you heard from the beginning. We should love one another. (ἀγαπάω)

Climate of: Love, Acceptance, Honesty, and Forgiveness. John 13:34- A new command I give you; Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. Rom 15:7- Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. Eph- 4:15- Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. Col 3:13- Bear with each other and forgive what ever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
1 Peter 1:22 (b) Fervently love one another from the heart. (NASB) Love one another earnestly from a pure heart. (ESV) Love one another deeply from the heart. (NIV)
What is the Heart Let us first start with what the biblical definition of the heart is NOT.
The Biblical description of the Heart is not an emotional feeling.
The Biblical description of Heart is not something to be followed.
The Biblical description of the heart is not biological.
Biblical Definition
What is the Heart? OT Gen 6:5- The Lord saw how great man s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. Ex 7:3- But I will harden Pharaoh s heart that I may multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt. Dt. 29:4- Yet to this day the Lord has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear. Je 17:9-The heart is more deceitful than all else, and is desperately sick. Who can understand it. (read 17:5-10)
What is the Heart NT Mt 5:28- but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Mt 6:21- for where your treasure is there your heart will be also. (6:22-23) Mt 12:34- For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. Lk 6:45- The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart. Rom 5:5- and hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Ro 5:5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Jn 7:38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. Eph 3: Read
1 Peter 1:22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren fervently love one another from the heart. (NASB) Focus Point- The church is a separate (holy) people. One of the primary ways this is shown is through love for one another. John 13:35- By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
1 Peter 1:23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. (NASB) since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; (ESV) For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. (NIV)
1 Peter 1:23 Focus Point- Because we have been born again into a new creation, our relationships with one another should reflect our new hearts.
1 Peter 1:24 &25 1 Pe 1:24 For, ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF, 25 BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER. And this is the word which was preached to you. (NASB) 1 Pe 1:24 for All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever. And this word is the good news that was preached to you. (ESV)
ISAIAH 40-The Greatness of God Isaiah 1-39 about the judgment of God. Isaiah 40 is a turning point in the book as it begins to talk about the salvation and redeeming power of God. Read 40:1-8;21-31
Application 1./ Since God has given us faith and purified our souls, we should love one another deeply from the heart. Our relationships with one another are Holy relationships and should be much different than the world. Question Are we truly loving one another from the heart? Rom 5:5- and hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. 1 Peter 1:22- Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren fervently love one another from the heart.
Application 2. The relationships we have with one another in the church represent Christ! We are commanded to love one another because it pleases our Father in Heaven and displays His Holiness. Because it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." (1 Peter 1:16 NASB) Question Are we viewing our relationships with one another in light of Jesus' Commandments and Holiness? John 13:34- A new command I give you; Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:35- By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
Application 3./ One of the primary places that one anothering is able to take place is in our Gospel Community Groups. Though one anothering can take place outside of these groups, the group is specifically designed to grow these types of relationships. Question Are you in an environment that supports one anothering? If not, consider joining a Gospel Community Group.
