ADVANCE NOTICES GEMS Soup & Pie Supper, Friday, November 21 from 5-7 p.m. Thanksgiving Day Service, Thursday, November 27 at 10:00 a.m. Church Christmas Program, Sunday, December 14 after evening worship. Calvin Christian Christmas Concert, Monday, December 15 at 6:30 p.m. Congregational Meeting Tuesday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. If Jesus Came to Your House Would you meet Him at the door with arms outstretched in Welcome? Or would you have to change your clothes before you let Him in? Or hide some magazines, and put the Bible where they d been? Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books out? Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would you rush about? And I wonder - if the Savior spent a day or two with you. Would you go right on doing the things you always do? Would you go right on saying the things you always say? Would life for you continue as it does from the day to day? Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you d planned to go? Or would you maybe change your plans for just a day or so? Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closet friends? Or would you hope they stay away until His visit ends? Would you be glad to have Him stay forever on and on? Or would you sigh with great relief when He at last was gone? It might be interesting to know the things that you would do, if Jesus came in a person to spend some time with you. 3 In Loving Memory Of Krynie Biography of Krynie Kryntje Anna van was born on October 8, 1926, in Driebergen, a province of Utrecht, The Netherlands. She was the fourth of six children and grew up on the family farm. In July 1948, she married William. They immigrated to America in October 1948, to begin their new life together. After working for some dairies in Southern California, William and Krynie ran a small Cash and Carry in Mission Valley. In 1956, they moved with their 4 children to Ramona, California, to operate a dairy. There they had 2 more children for a total of 6 children. The family spent many enjoyable years on the dairy, with a variety of pets and lots of visitors. Krynie kept very October 8, September 20, 2014 busy raising children, calves and other animals. She loved to bake, so there was never a shortage of homemade bread or cookies. In 2007, William and Krynie moved to Sundance Mobile Home Park in Escondido. They were happy to be so close to the Escondido United Reformed Church, where they joyfully worshipped for many years. Krynie soon received the nickname The Cookie Lady as she was always bringing freshly backed goods to other residents in the park. Krynie was always visiting others, helping wherever she could. She received much joy from working in her little yard, growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. After 62 years of marriage, William went to be with the Lord in William and Krynie were blessed with 6 children: Margaret, Beatrix, Nellie, Pete, Bill, and Kathy. They were doubly blessed with 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Daughter Nellie passed away in Krynie was laid to rest on October 1, 2014 at Nuevo Memory Gardens in Ramona, California. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalm 32:8

4 Blessings as a Parent...and an Elder! What are some of the desires that every Christian parent has for their children? That they develop a sincere faith of their own with God, and that they are not afraid to express this faith publicly to others. As Matthew 10:32 states; Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my father in heaven. Marianne and Jacqueline stood publicly to profess that they want to be members of the Escondido URC, and be labeled as Christians to the world. Question and answer #32 of Heidelberg Catechism states; But why are you called a Christian? Because by faith I am a member of Christ, and also so I share in his anointing. I am anointed to confess his name, to present myself to him as a living sacrifice of thanks, to strive with good conscience against sin and the devil in this life, and afterward to reign with Christ over all creation for all eternity. We pray as parents that this commitment will be a lifelong trust in God, and Christ as their personal savior. We praise God that they have decided to profess their faith, but we realize that this comes not through our own efforts, but it is through God s grace and providence that he has chosen them to be his children, and has through the work of the holy spirit led them to want to declare their faith publicly. It was a great joy for me personally to be a part of Marianne & Jacqueline s appearance to the elders in September. My father was an elder when I went before the elder body in the Sanborn, Iowa CRC in 1983, and was never aware what a humbling experience this would be. One of the songs pastor Gordon chose for their profession service October 5 th was Great is thy Faithfulness, this song is a personal and family favorite for several generations. To God be the glory great things he has done, and continues to do each day!.rob

5 Hello, my name is Marianne and I am currently a senior at Calvin Christian High School. I have gone to the Escondido United Reformed Church with my family for my whole life. I have attended Sunday school, catechism classes, and youth group which truly did help me to understand my God and my faith. But the true assurance that I have attained through my life so far is that these things are wonderful, but can not save me. It is God alone that can do this-not anything I can or will ever do. Only Christ. That is what I have come to profess. In the coming years I hope to go to school to become a dental hygienist, and more importantly, grow in my relationship and walk with my Savior and God....Marianne Hello, I am Jacqui, a junior at Calvin Christian School, but most importantly I am a child of God. I have been blessed in many ways so far in my life. I have grown up with parents and grandparents who have firm foundations in the Lord and desired to impart their love for him to me. They have been a tremendous encouragement when I decided to take the next step, making profession of faith. I have also been blessed with a wonderful church community who has helped to nurture and grow my faith. I am also thankful for the opportunity to publicly profess my faith. I am confident in my Lord and Savior and desire to grow in Him each and every day. I am so blessed to be a new member of this church that truly teaches the gospel, and look forward to finding where I fit in in this church family....jacqui But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18 Profession Of Faith Marianne and Jacqueline made profession of faith together on Sunday, October 5.

6 ` Report of the Classis Southwest U.S. Meeting September 9-10, 2014 The delegates of the churches in Classis SWUS convened for its second regular meeting of 2014 in Chino, CA in the afternoon of September 9, The meeting was hosted by the First United Reformed Church of Chino and the delegates were well taken care of by the members of that congregation. The delegates proceeded through the agenda by hearing reports from classis functionaries, church visitors and committee representatives. Tuesday afternoon was highlighted by an overture from the Escondido URC to permit Oceanside United Reformed Church in Carlsbad, CA to organize as a member Church in accordance with Article 22 of the Church Order. Classis unanimously adopted the overture and offered to the Lord thanks for his gracious hand in guiding and upholding that congregation through some tough times. Classis also thanked the Consistory of Escondido URC for their wisdom and leadership in their oversight of the Oceanside URC. During the afternoon Classis was greeted by Rev. BJ Gorrell representing the OPC and Rev. Guillermo Baloy of the RCUS. It was our pleasure to hear from these brothers and to host them as ecumenical observers. Classis gave advice to a number of churches on discipline matters before discussing the formation of a study committee to give guidance and advice to the churches of classis concerning the rise of Eastern Orthodox sentiments and allegiances among members of our churches. After a good discussion on the floor it was decided that the specifics of this study committee could be hammered out over dinner and further fellowship in the evening. With that the delegates were treated to dinner by First URC and hosted by Rev. Quentin Falkena for a time of fellowship in the evening. The second day of classis was largely taken up by the Candidacy examination of Mr. Nicholas Davis of Christ URC (Santee, CA). After going well into the afternoon with the examinations it was determined by classis that Mr. Davis sustained all portions of his examination. Rev. Michael Brown offered a prayer of thanksgiving and rejoicing and the delegates greeted Mr. Davis. Before adjourning the delegates formed a Study committee to identify prominent Eastern Orthodox voices, what they are advocating, and media they are using; and to provide a Reformed apologetic response to members attracted to Eastern Orthodoxy as pastoral advice. This committee is chaired by Rev. Adam Kaloostian and is to report to the next meeting of

7 classis. Other members of this committee are: Rev. Stephen Donovan, Rev. Chuck Tedrick, Rev. Michael Brown, and Rev. Andrew Compton. Pray that the Lord will bless their labors. The 34 th meeting of Classis SWUS is scheduled to meet on March 10-11, 2015 convened by the Escondido URC. Respectfully submitted, Rev. Mark H. Vander Pol Clerk, Classis SWUS

9 Welcome to Jason, Ardis, and Elias! Hello, our names are Jason, Ardis and Elias. We moved to Escondido this past July from Langley, BC, Canada so that Jason could attend seminary at WSC. Escondido is quite different than what we re used to, but God has been gracious to us these past few months, and we are very thankful for how smooth and enjoyable the transition has been. Many of you have taken a peek at Elias in his car seat, and some of you have even had the opportunity to babysit him. He is 4 ½ months old, and we are absolutely thrilled to have him in our life. He continues to grow and develop, and is generally a very content baby. I keep quite busy taking care of Elias. From regular feedings to long walks to seemingly constant laundry (thanks to cloth diapers), I have my hands full! I am a certified hairdresser, and hoping to maintain my skills throughout our time in Escondido. Ladies, take note! The first semester of what will hopefully be a successful 3 year M.Div. program is well under way, and Jason is happy so far with how everything is going. He is excited to go to school and to do the work, and he has enjoyed meeting his professors and much of the student body. In addition to his studies, he also serves as a board member for Abounding Grace Radio. Although he misses aspects of his former career as a high school teacher, he is excited for what the future holds. We are not sure where the Lord will take us, but we are thankful for his goodness and provision thus far, and we trust in his faithfulness. We look forward to getting to know more of you in the coming years, and we thank you for the kind and warm welcome that we have already received from so many of you!

I planned to make you mine, Your destiny was all planned out Way before your time You first learned of me as a child I watched you as you grew I waited till the time was right to reveal my love to you. I worked in you to receive me into your heart And be surrounded by my love That was there from the very start. So I now live inside of you I share your joys and tears In Me, you can conquer all the pain, The world, and fears So remember when you re lonely Or things seem too much All you need to do is call on me Trust me and at once, you ll feel my touch. Listen, sit still as with the Lord He is with us. No matter how disconnected and hurt you feel Then a voice spoke, My arms are open Come my child I ll comfort you- Trust me, I love you.
